No Man's Sky - Interceptor

I put a couple of hours into this, starting from scratch. You're guided a lot better at the start, although you're still just sent after a bunch of resources to repair your ship as before. In fact, the whole experience feels basically the same at this stage, just a little less frustrating. I found as crashed ship I could repair for instance, only it had about three times the storage of my starting ship instead of a measly extra slot. Even so, everything still feels so sluggish thanks to the endless resource gathering your forced to do.

This might be down to bad luck, but after two hours I've yet to find a way to start base building (unless I'm missing something), or a portal for that matter, but I've also only just been introduced to the second story path so it might just be very slowly easing me in. The Atlas path is possibly shut off for good, as the Atlas Station waypoint has mysteriously vanished from my map screen for no reason. The starting quests also take you to a crashed freighter, which is nice.

It's cool that you can pick up missions, but the missions on offer have been pretty terrible so far. Kill 16 random animals for no reason! Actually it let me take that one twice, and cash it in twice for the same set of animals.

Flight still feels really floaty, and swapping to a bigger ship seemed to make no difference to this. It's nice that you can fly closer to the ground without mods now though. Combat seemed fine, but still pretty basic even with the addition of missiles.

I still like the idea of what Hello Games are doing, but I really wish there was more fun exploration to be had, and less of the tedious grind.

I have a permadeath save poised right at the edge of the galactic centre - as everybody probably knows by now, going to the centre

dumps you at the far end of a new galaxy to start over with all your stuff still existing, but broken and needing repaired

.

Rather than starting a brand new game in Euclid I was thinking to try in Hilbert - there are less players there, is that going to be a hindrance with the new multiplayer components?

I decided to give this another go after not playing it since before all the main patches began. And it has basically screwed up my game. The last save it puts me back at doesn't resemble the planet I was on at all. One of the saves puts me underneath the geometry with no escape, and the other save puts me on the surface, but on a tiny island surrounded by irradiated water, with none of the resources needed to be able to protect myself, and my ship almost 40 minutes away.

There are no bases to recall my ship, and if I try going across the water, the radiation is so high that I can't travel far before dying. And all my boosters for my jet pack and multitool are gone so they have basic functionality. In other words.....fuck this game! I've lost around 50-60 hours of play time :/

So, I've just started and seemingly got further along than the last time I played the thing...inasmuch as I've repaired my ship ;)

Is there a way to change the flight controls so that they're inverse to the default, as I'm finding it completely counter-intuitive to how I'd usually fly something!

I started afresh on Survival mode last night and sudenly the crafting and mining grind all made sense. I was juggling various emergencies just trying to stay alive and thinking that sometime in the far future I might be ready to make the 10-minute trip across scorching terrain to find my ship. The situation was more desperate than Mark Watney's in The Martian.

I'm not sure I'll be able to survive this planet. I died twice and realised that resources don't respawn on death so I'm rapidly depleting the local area around the relative safety of my habitat of much-needed Thamium, Plutonium and Zinc. My life support just gets rinsed too quickly to be able to branch out too far.

I've not even had a chance to even really look at my hell-hole of a new home. Ships buzz overhead but I'm too busy mining and desperately trying to scan for more precious materials just to stay alive a few more minutes.

I was loving it, to be honest. One day I might be able to take off and try that new flight model.

Akso why the fuck is 'run' still on R3??? Thank god for being able to remap controls on PS4.

There are settings to invert walking and ship controls under Game Options. :)

This is why Survival mode is the best.

Little tip for you - running drains your life support more quickly than walking. Can make all the difference.
