Given how it runs pretty fucking poorly on the PS4, I doubt very much that the PS4 Pro will magically make it workable on PSVR.

That being said, if they did somehow manage it, I'd be all over it.   I've already got my eye on a PS4 Pro now that I have PSVR...

Wouldn't the normal ps4 have to run it on page, though? No pro "exclusives", right?

I want more interesting mechanics really.   Stuff that's barely there - combat, trading, interacting with wildlife, all the 'what you do'  can be improved massively.

I know they're still working on it so I'm optimistic.  I think the silence is down to them wanting to have a big update when they finally face the community/media.

To note my friend who was a bit scathing about the "Arcadeyness" of the game - here's his title. Many years in the making, as ever...he has some basic mechanics working now. I.e. system navigation, trading, etc.

He is making it on his own, apart from a few art assets. Really a "Tiny Team".

If you want a peek under the hood to see how the procedural generation works check out http://3dgamedevblog.com/wordpress/?p=836

No Man’s Sky is a space exploration game which uses procedural generation technology in order to create game environment and assets (textures, models, terrains etc). I was very excited since this game was announced back in 2013, not only for the game itself, but mostly for a chance to start researching the game files and find out how the game works. The game turned out as one of the most controversial games ever released, but still its inner workings are very interesting.

Anyone who installs the game can easily find out that the game is really small for its scale and this is true. But the main reason behind that is that the game works on a very small set of assets in order to create literally hundreds of variants, using procedural generation. I’m going to concentrate on the content that is related with the game’s 3D models because this is were I am (always) interested in. I’m also going to separate the article into 3 main categories. Geometry, Textures and Animation.

More at the link. If you're smart enough to understand it. Which I'm not. (Thanks to RPS's Sunday Papers at https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/10/23/the-sunday-papers-424/#more-407243

Dopewars in space! Although it's spartan and he's quite self deprecating about it all, I love that HUD. Good luck to him.

If you didn't you should also check out part 1 of the journey - shows some docking and AI ships - and the ending is really funny with the bug he discovers. Funny in a kind of "that's cool" way, I thought!

He's actually even written and self-published a book about the game's universe. He's got it pretty much all planned out. Well he's finished book 1, book 2 is on the way. Trilogy I believe. So, some pretty hardcore development and he has a day job...

I reckon they could get around that by saying It already does, via TV.

They'd have to release the VR upgrade for free to do so though. Given how little goodwill the dev has, I think that would be a given.

And by page I mean PSVR. But yeah, I assumed that would mean there'd need to be a playable non-pro PSVR version. Slippery slope for those with a ps4 fat who thought it'd do all VR titles. Particularly as it sounds like Sony still want generations, as they're "good for consumers."

I would dispute that the framerate barely holds up. The Digital Foundry guys found it to be remarkably consistent at 30fps. Any dips are rare, and only in-flight under certain circumstances:

The rest, sure. The pop-in seems to have gotten worse again lately, and I'm getting the usual array of bizarre glitches (latest being a Sentinel Cruiser that warped in, launched fighters, and then disappeared, like a light being switched off).

It could certainly run better.

It does in the context of VR.  The frame rate tanks when you reach a new planet, and when you're flying about the surface.   It would require considerable rework to hit an unwavering framerate.

Even on a PC more powerful than the PS4Pro it struggles to maintain 60fps.

Bugger! I was convinced that Hello Game had given up on it & I sold the game.

Glad to see they are still working on the game, will have to double dip on this again next year.

Hopefully a PS4 Pro patch in the works & maybe a PSVR update.
