No Man's Sky - Interceptor

I like reading your comments, although I have left this game for a few weeks now. I got fed up (a) having to recharge my ship after every 4th take off from the planet surface just to keep exploring and (b) same again, but with the life support.

Does this change with upgrades later on? If so what should I be aiming for? I found the constant micromanagement of the basics got in the way of the actual exploration and discovery.

You can increase your life support, I rarely run out even when exploring for ages with the three upgrades I have. The upgraded launch thrusters, along with the omega warp drive, were either cut from the game at the last minute or are insanely well hidden.

It's quite odd when you encounter a 'fair' review amongst all the wishlist shouting and realise it's from Yahtzee.

Like others have said, I like it despite it faults (but also had no disconnect as I purposefully evaded all the hype), but this feels fair. It is My First Elite, but that oddly fits the relaxing feeling I want to coax from it.

I think I've agreed with almost all of the bad reviews I've seen.   And I still love the game.  I'm also quite excited to see where they take it over the next few months.

I even think the 50 hour refunds are justified for those who were expecting particular features.   This is a very slow, grindy game,  it will take a while to find out that the feature you were promised isn't there (or is uselessly shallow).  Just the fact that there's nothing at the centre justifies a refund IMO.  For those that cared about that I mean.

They don't have to be adjacent. But it seems better again if they are. So having a +1 and a +2 anywhere on your ship is better than just a +2. And better again if they're adjacent. And better again if they're also adjacent to the thing they're buffing (so put your shield upgrades next to your shield and so on.) Or so people say. No idea if anyone's actually done the maths, given there's no numbers.

What the fuck. And you can't move them. Jesus.

those sea creatures look fantastic.

Wish they'd built some of better viewer in the game or holo unit that you could store your best discoveries and a record of your journey rather than just a list. KInd of pokemon snapish.

That video review on the last page was spot on.

The more I play the game the more I love it, but equally the more my wishlist grows.

I mean, some of the stuff is so simple that it must surely be on the list. Even just letting me spin and zoom each creature on the Discovery page would be nice, but an Animal Crossing style aquarium would be ideal.

Got back on this yesterday after a break, finished up the Atlas Path - lol - and am on to the black holes bit. Finally got an Atlas Pass V.1 - that feels like something I could have used a month back tho...

Anybody found a large golden ball at a ruin, aside from rolling it at some animals and yelling "play with me" I've not worked out what they're for - anybody know?

After a load of planet hopping it's safe to say I miss my lush paradise planet, nothing I've seen since has made me as happy. I shall continue the search for the 'perfect planet', but worried that it's now light years behind me.

Black holes keep blowing up my sigma warp drive. Making it harder for me to get to the next black hole without trawling everywhere for hundreds of units of Ni and Al. Gnnnnhgh! First thing that's actually pissed me off. If that keeps up I can see me gibbing the long 170k ly trawl.

I fancied the scenic route but after about 50 hours I only have the one  warp drive upgrade, so am hitting volumes of empty space I can't cross with my current drive. And with 300ish very zigzag light year jumps max and 170kly to go, the scenic route is gonna take me about what, 600-700 jumps at this rate? Lol. Elite Dangerous is quietly, but insistently calling me back.

Not yet though. Not yet.

Does having a lot of other stuff added to your ship help with this, I wonder? My 28 slot ship is full of modifications with just two slots left over storage. Jumped through countless black holes, and none of my hyperdrive gear has ever been damaged. Yet.

I think I need to cane the Atlas Path, these red things are starting to take up quite a bit of space, and I haven't fancied a grind to slowly trade up ships or just buy a massive one. I do hope Atlas Pass v2 is encountered along the way though, because having to pass up all these base doors is annoying.

I thought to get the 'new star' ending of the Atlas path you had to fork over 10 stones. What was the other reward I got?

Heh,

Spoiler

The 'new star'  is basically nothing.

But you are given the ability to see black holes on the galaxy map yourself by finishing the quest.

Oh right. I hadn't realised I picked that skill up then. Duh.

You say the new star is nothing, but what actually is it? Has a new star really been created within everyone's seed? So someone else could spawn in that new system as the Atlas text strongly implies? How is that even possible? Safe to assume it's bollocks right?

Pretty sure

you get that ability regardless of if you hand over the stones or not. At least that's what I've seen multiple people say anyway.

The last two nights I've played, my game has forgotten I'm following the Atlas path, so the option doesn't appear my galaxy map. By pure chance, I jumped one system yesterday, into a system discovered by someone else, and there was an anomaly that got me back on track. Tonight? Nothing. Several jumps (having finally discovered you don't need to go one star at a time, but can in fact jump 300ly unless it arbitrarily decides I can't because of the star classification), no sign of anomaly. System scan shows an ore deposit, so i land and there's the biggest spire of iridium ore I've ever seen. Start mining it, a few minutes later I fell through the floor, while perfectly motionless mining. The core of this world was water, and I thought it was going to let me back up. Alas, I couldn't fly up through the surface, though I could see animals walking on this invisible layer. I took a video, it's fucking ridiculous.

Honestly, I was about to turn it off, probably for a long time, standard functionality is stable, nevermind what's missing from the game, when I end up spending an hour walking around the surface because the local animals are so interesting. Sizeable, multi generation herds following each other around. It was quite impressive.

This sodding game. I really do want to get back on the Atlas though, god knows when that'll turn back up. The Atlas path was always in the opposite direction to the galactic center, for me.
