No Man's Sky - Interceptor

I've read that red stars are supposed to have a higher chance of lush planets? Just visited two in a row to find them both full of either empty planets or just more toxic hellholes. It's gotten to the stage now where I'm wondering if I'll ever see one of these "paradise" planets. My exosuit is fully upgraded, I've got a 24 slot multi-tool which is more than useful, and I've also got a 28 slot ship which I don't feel the need to upgrade any further now that I've got all the hyperdrive blueprints installed.

At the minute, I'm on the tipping point of going warp crazy, and filling my exosuit full of warp cells, and blasting towards the centre of the universe which I know -- even though I've not read or watched any spoilers -- will be a load of shit when I get there. The whole game is really starting to grate now. The planets feel like the levels in a platformer, repeated over and over and over. Here's Ice World, here's Lava World etc. etc. The snowy worlds could do with a visual overhaul as well. The snow looks more like ash. /end moan

I've only found one planet actually designated as a "Paradise Planet", but various planets which have that lush multi-coloured grass look going on. They just might be termed "Forest Planet" or whatever.

Toxic planets are often my favourites though. They tend to have the weirdest plants and I love the dust storms.

Only just installed all the Hyperdrive Blueprints, so haven't been able to test the coloured system theory, but it apparently breaks down as follows:

Yellow Stars/Class G or F

These are the default star systems you can travel to from the start of the game. Mostly basic resources can be be found on the planets present within them, and a lot of the planets are barren.

Red Stars/Class K or M

You need a warp reactor sigma upgrade to travel to these stars. Planets will have slightly rarer resources on them, and more planets will be habited with fauna and flora.

Green Stars/Class E

You need warp reactor tau upgrade to have the ability to travel to these systems. They contain even rarer resources and even more planets will be tropical/lush.

Blue Stars/Class B or O

You need a warp reactor theta upgrade to travel to these systems. Planets will have a chance of having even the rarest resources on them, and a higher chance of being lush with plentiful plant and animal life.

So Red Stars aren't the rarest.

In all honesty though I've seen lots of very varied planets which have been lush with flora and fauna, and I've not strayed from the Atlas or Centre paths apart from very near the beginning when I only had the standard hyperdrive anyway.

I kind of wish I'd kept a single screenshot of each planet actually. Would be interesting to actually look at how many of each broad type I'd visited.

Just been to a blue star. Not very lush at all. And I got attacked by about three or four tiny bouncing cock aliens, as soon as I jumped out of my ship. Considering their size, they were bolt caster sponges as well, just shrugging off my laser fire, the little shits. Despite my moan earlier, they did raise a little chuckle from me. :)

Originally they said things would get crazier as you reached the centre, right? I wonder if many people who've been racing to the centre have also stopped to land occasionally...

You have no choice but to stop and land occasionally; warp fuel ain't infinite, and sooner or later you'll need to fix up all those bits that keep braking from black hole use..

Nothing changed for me much between 170000 and 30000 LY to centre, tbh.

I've made a couple more mods, if anyone's interested; first makes the buildings much further apart (2 or 3 times, up to you) and the other reduces how many ships you getting doing flybys and how many freighters you encounter in space.

Also, last few screenshots from me, I'm basically done for now.  Occasionally jumping on to get closer to the middle (to see if there's anything awesome flora/fauna wise when a jump or two away from centre) but I'm all No Manned Out tbh!

Still love a funny parking shot! :D

This planet was prett awesome, lovely big mountains and tons of floating islands, and VERY RED.

This ship I found as I was hunting for upgrades, so fucking badass looking!! Was gutted it was only a 38 slotter.

Ended up finishing on this 48-slotter:

Big stuff mod makes plutonium gems look awesome!

And fuck, they really do mean BIG STUFF (that's my ship in the middle!)

I'm resting up here for now.  It won't be the end!  It can't be! Look how miserable it looks.

I'm a little bit torn at this point. Part of me want to get a max size ship and find the outer edge of the galaxy (fuck the centre) but I'm keen to wait for new features before the game dies on me completely. It seems stable now at least so I'm expecting big things from HelloGames over the next few months.

Also, I tried a bit of Elite Dangerous yesterday for the first time in ages and while it's still 90% staring at an ETA time that is never even remotely accurate there's something about owning a "real" ship that makes it rewarding. It also seems to have gotten bastard hard since I last played so that makes the combat interesting, but my god the universe looks dull after NMS. Maybe there's a neon gas cloud mod? :P

Last night my wife came home and watched for five minutes while I was tying up a few loose ends in game.  I accidentally set off a grenade instead of opening my binoculars and killed a bouncing pineapple. As it lay lifeless on the ground she said "Why did you do that? It wasn't doing anything to you". Two sentinals then hovered over and scanned its body just to make me feel even worse. Thank god it wasn't a juvenile.

Nice ship. Mine only has 23 slots!

Re. Landing on planets whilst heading for the centre, could one not just buy Warp Cell materials from the Space Stations and mine asteroids for the other stuff?

You can't buy heridium in large enough quantities to make that viable, you'd be roaming around for literal hours buying 20 at a time when you could get 300 in five second on a planet.

I've been to mostly blue stars for the last week or so, and I'm now about 120000LY from the center. No real differences from star colour except more extreme environments and more angry sentinels. No noticeable difference at all from distance to the center.

Do the upgrades you craft in your inventory actually stack abilities or not?

There is conflicting info online. Some people seem to think upgrades only stack if they are in adjacent inventory slots (and you can't move them manually) whereas some people think they also stack when not adjacent...?

They have to be adjacent, you get an outline to show you get a bonus on the ability.

They don't have to be adjacent. But it seems better again if they are. So having a +1 and a +2 anywhere on your ship is better than just a +2. And better again if they're adjacent. And better again if they're also adjacent to the thing they're buffing (so put your shield upgrades next to your shield and so on.) Or so people say. No idea if anyone's actually done the maths, given there's no numbers.

I bowed out of this thread (and the game) a while ago, so forgive me if common knowledge, but have any of you guys reached the centre of the galaxy yet?  just read a spoiler on that and, erm, well...

LeChuck did, it sounds shit.

To clarify the adjacency thing, you get a stacked bonus for a +1 and a +2 or whatever, then a 5% bonus for each side that is connected. So ideally you'd arrange it with the best one (+3 or +4) surrounded by the others, giving the +4 an overall 20% boost by being connected to other upgrades on all four sides.

Yeah, from what i read that sounds about right.
