No Man's Sky - Interceptor

Problem with that @hobo is there's no such thing as an amazing discovery. I've not once seen a video or photograph or read an explanation of something I haven't already seen in the game beyond that one bug where the buildings were overgrown with plants.

With distance from the game now, the more I think about it the more I realise what a wasted opportunity it is. Everything is plentiful, so there's nothing unique in anyone's experience of it.

I'm in agreement with the lack of variety.

But just an easy way to go and visit someone's favourite planet however familiar would be at least some reward (especially compared to what actually does happens).

I haven't 100%'d a planet yet. But I probably would be more inclined to find a favourite and completely label all creatures if I knew I could share it more easily.

Actually perhaps it probably should just be a feature rather than an end of game reward.

Since the planets are all seeded there's surely no reason they couldn't add an 'arcade' mode where you could enter the seed and visit the planet, perhaps in some kind of guest mode that had no effect on your save file. Just like being able to enter a Binding of Isaac seed.

Of course nobody in their right mind wants to manually input a 64-bit number, least of all using a Dualshock, but you could easily share QR codes or links.

Either someone is trolling...or we haven't seen everything in the game yet.

The image is unique (ie not from early footage going by a reverse image search) and came with some cryptic messages and information. Several reddit users are apparently receiving hints.

There is even a subreddit dedicated to finding the secrets in the game - https://www.reddit.com/r/NMSPortals

I've found the building in that picture on a planet yesterday, but the teleporter bit in the middle (the swirling mass thing) was not present. I walked through it, around it and shot it with both mining laser and boltcaster. Nothing activated it. I should point out I'm having to play offline (I've been hacked, so no account at present), so maybe that would allow it to work, but I doubt it.

Right then, ladies and gentlemen. I am one jump away.  But I need to repair my Theta Drive to make the hop.  I've almost got everything I need.

Incoming LeChuck rant

Please post it in a spoiler in any case. I'm nowhere near as far as you are.

They him found in the datamined files. Full model, not procedurally generated, along with the other animals eg the rhino etc. such a mad scramble all that  'demo' stuff was left in the disc . <_<

Actually the data mining indicates that he is the only one pre built, all the other animals in the trailer are procedural.

Man, I've had a long day of space-racing!  It's been a bit of a slog if I'm honest!  Have managed to smash it pretty hard though - first thing this morning I was on ~160,000 to centre.  Now I'm here:

I've decided to stop off so that I can upgrade my ship (MOAR SLOTS NEEDED) a bit and see some sights other than this:

I was kind of lucky with my refuelling / repair stops, seemed to always choose a planet that had exactly what I need!

I stopped for today at a blue system - my first one!  The first planet I landed on has some flora I've not seen before!  Love it.  Venus flytraps (giant ones) everywhere!20160825004620_1.jpg

Awesome that after 50-60 hours that can still happen for me :)

Journal screenshot overload

Yeah, that's a nicely put together video.  I have to say, I'm already thinking about playing again, and doing the Atlas path properly.

Are there many games that you only play once?

Is therea trick to find crashed ships? I've spent forever tonight flying around looking and only found one. At beacons am I looking for transmissions?

Having gone from an 18 slot ship to 48 in about 2-3 days (I literally just got a 48 slot ship not more than an hour or so ago) I can tell you the secret. I'll spoiler this if other's dont want to read it by accident or whatever.

Find one of the large buildings with an antenna of some sort on top of it; this is actually the hardest part, but it can be easier to find using one of those signal boxes you can hack (they have orange beams coming out of them, they are relatively easy to find) by clicking on transmissions. Once you've found one of these towers, complete the "puzzle". Once you've done that.......keep on using the same console as many times as you can, inputting the same solution each time, so the planet fills up with distress beacons. Your ship will quickly improve.

No idea if you're supposed to be able to use one of the consoles over and over like that, but I did it the once 10 times for instance, and got 10 distress beacons. I know its not how you're supposed to play the game and all that, but its a hell of a lot less grindy doing this when all you want is some more inventory space.

The tower you're looking for looks like one of these (depending on race):

no-mans-sky-resource-guide-transmission-

shelter-communication-tower-no-mans-sky.

korvax-transmission-tower-no-mans-sky.jp

I cant remember 100% which one is which, sorry, but I do believe the last one is a Korvax transmission tower.

Decided to warp towards my second anomaly. Is it me or is it taking me away from the centre? Hard to tell on this hopeless map, but looks that way.

My anomaly is a few jumps away, and on first jump I almost can't be arsed to land and am about to warp away when I remember to scan. Find an anomaly with that pair in it. Atlas v1! Hurrah. A second scan finds rare materials, so I land on that planet. I've completely run out of ideas at this point, so quickly name both system and planet and go find a green exclamation point. En route, a sentinel attacks me, so it's one of those planets. Anyway, the green balls are gravatino something, which I remember from you guys, and I get farming. Of course, I'm immediately ganked by dogs, so it's back to the base.

There's also a new tool, so I'm messing about setting it all back up when I notice life support dropping like a stone. I'm only half paying attention as the temp is 20C, no rad or tox, and no weather. Suddenly, I ding the 1.0 Sol extreme survival discovery. Now it all makes sense. A lifeless rock with annoying locals and fancy pearls dotted about.

By pure chance, I had earlier named the system Rllmuk and the planet Off Topic.

Now I'm essentially stuck here for 9 hours. Cheers, Gorf.

@TehStu try to just forget everything that seems logical in terms of getting to the centre.  It shows you numbers sometimes that just serve to confuse!

Those guys youve met are a good help, I'd personally recommend you:

Spoiler

Follow atlas to the end before jumping through black holes.  It doesn't negatively impact, really.  I just wish I'd done it a lot earlier just because of what you get for finishing it!

Shame.

Still, look at this 4k "trailer" someone made, PC version, no mods - just gorgeous stuff that is in the game:

It's a lovely trailer but that's the problem with the game - it's basically just a big screenshot generator.  The actual "game" is a thin veneer that feels tacked on - repeating the same grindy tasks for hours on end - not my idea of fun.
