Not sure why mining 200 Gold and then selling it is any different from killing 200 Russians and earning a grenade launcher

If that's a reference to CoD and similar, surely you can see that killing 200 Russians is something that requires skill, and the weapon unlock is just part of the progression system laid over the top? The risk of something like NMS is that very little in it requires any skill so you lose the feeling of reward from learning, improving, overcoming obstacles and a job well done. The reward only comes from numbers going up. Of course, NMS also has the reward of endless new alien vistas as well.

Finally back on the Atlas path after a member of Daft Punk gave me a few choices, that being one of them. Also got my hands on a V1 Atlas Pass & was more than pleasantly surprised when it turned out I didn't need to craft one for every door / container! :)

The new marker was two systems away so made the first jump & did the obligatory system scan, Manufacturing Plant, I'll check that out on the way. Turns out it was an amazing planet, boiling hot with extreme storms that decimate your suit protection inside a minute. Thankfully there's plenty of Titanium crystal formations on the surface so it's been a an enjoyable few hours exploring the surface, whilst constantly topping up my suit.

All bar one of the building complexes I've visited has been abandoned, was beginning to think there was no advanced lifeforms on the plant at all but eventually found one with a much-needed trade terminal. Lots & lots of animals though, including the pig-dogs with wings, some raptors & deer amongst others. First planet I've found with some Nickel ( well one deposit so far ) & it also has lots of small clumps of Radnox lying around as well.

Nearly done here, going to have another quick look around for Nickel again & then make the next jump.

I want one of these, in white. Maybe with some pale blue trim:

Davros, I thought my ship was similar and almost white. But when I checked last night, mine doesn't have the beefy sides to the nose so doesn't look anywhere near as cool.

Couple of video's from yesterday session.

How to make quick money buying dynamic resonator's

How to increase your inventory size on your starship

I still need to find 1 or 2 records on the planets, really wish the scanning feature in the game would help you find these?

To start the path:

  Hide contents

You have to have chosen to accept the help of the red ball at the start.   When you make you 3rd or 4th jump an Alien Ruin will be automatically marked on a planet for you when you reach the system.  Visiting it will add a waypoint for the Atlas path.

If you didn't accept the red ball's help

  Hide contents

come your 5th / 6th jump a space anomoly should be immediately marked on your hud when you reach the system.  It has a different icon to everything else, and it's like a space station.  Go inside and you'll see what happens.

You don't need to do system scans / use L3 to find them.  They happen by themselves.

I accepted help at the start and have jumped 15 times, never had either of those things happen (I haven't had the game auto mark something for me since the anti-matter blueprint).

I did a little test last night, as I couldn't be sure that when you "discover" sites (as in Monoliths, Ruins, Settlements, etc) on planets this persisted when you left the planet. So I jumped to a nearby star system, jumped back, and revisited the planet I've been on for the past few days. And I was able to find a site I'd discovered the day before and the game had remembered.

Maybe everyone already knew this, but I thought this was pretty neat. Was a bit worried that discovering might be a bit smoke and mirrors. Thought it was worth mentioning :).

Also I'm 1 species off my first 100% planet. I've searched up hills, in the lakes, down the caves, but it's been quite a while now since I found anything new (apart from the giant moth thing I exterminated a few pages back). Any tips? Is there anything I can do to try and find the last species? Or is it just a case of wondering around until I bump into it. I need closure, dammit.

If there's one thing I'm known for, it's admitting when I was wrong. If there was a situation where I'd felt that the height maps were too flat, but really I hadn't looked carefully enough at topography to really appreciate the landscape, I'd mention that. So it's pretty awesome that that hasn't happened and the game is too flat and I'm right.

Very interesting experience on this current PC save I've got going. On both my PS4 saves (pre and post patch) I've had a massive variety of planets, with some really quite jaw-dropping ones pre-patch in particular (RIP Planet McPlanetface).

On this save I've seen about 16 planets, and so far I've not seen so much as a blade of grass. I did have one snowy planet (with vast mountain ranges) and one with lots of weird life and alien mushrooms, but most of them have been barren/devoid of life. Rocks, rocks, and more rocks.

I mean, I still think those types of planet are interesting, and I found some awesome underwater caves, but you can just see how someone could get a "bad" run of planets.

Also, as I was tinkering with the settings initially before I'd saved the game, I saw about 10 starting planets, only one of which was lush and verdant. So maybe I've just been lucky on my PS4 save.

Well I finally left my starting system last night. I had a good mooch around all 5 planets in the system (the final two were very barren) and 100% discovered 3 of them (there is one with only one discovery left but I think it's bugged*). After some aluminium mining I was up to nearly 2mil credits so treated myself to a Alien dropship-esque style ship with 24 slots...

I then charged up the hyperdrive, opened up the galactic map for the first time and... wow!... this galaxy really is massive. It's quite intimidating just how many systems are out there once you start free roaming the map. It very suddenly puts into perspective how small a part of the game you are as a player.

Anyway, picked a nearby system (the "Reaper System") because it sounded good, but also because I could see it had already been discovered by someone else (username" Celtic_Reaver") so thought I'd go an see what evidence I could find of his travels. Unfortunately it seems he must have warped on quickly as all 4 planets in the system are all still labelled as "undiscovered". Well they were, I've just claimed one...

Having not had any moons in my starting system I decided I wanted to see what a planet skyline would look like so I headed over to the biggest planet (which had a single moon) and touched down just after the night terminator had passed and was certainly not disappointed with the view...

There isn't a lot on here though so I'll probably bag some metals and then head to the main planet for a look around before heading to the "off-planet manufacturing facility" that Atlas has sent me towards that is orbiting this same planet.

Loving the game still.

* I can sometimes see the shadows of birds flapping around on the ground but when you look up there aren't any in the sky anywhere.

So far for me it has been a case of wonder around until you find it. Really wish the scanning feature in the game would help you pinpoint discoveries.

Yeah would be nice. Well, I'll wonder round a bit more and see what happens :).

Whats bugging me me most is blueprints. Why can't you buy them in the galactic shop. It's like hitting your head against the wall forever getting dupes. Can't find the warp drive variant ones anywhere.

There at the crashed ships. At least that's where I just got the rank 2 one!

Not the most exciting video to everyone else in the world, but the moment when the red dots flurry up on the last find on the planet is the reason I like this game. Small-ish victories that certainly aren't spectacles become really rewarding.

... Until the bug (or feature?) kicks in and you realise you can't ever upload another completed planet.

Put a few more hours in last night but going to give it a break now. Haven't seen any ships that make me think 'must have!' and the resource grind is a bit pointless otherwise. Was a surprise to actually die(!) at the hands of space pirates, but it having no consequences (pirates that don't take your stuff?) made me regret how toothless the survival aspects of NMS are.

The first time my suit warned me 'nighttime brings extreme cold, -75c' I got all excited and braced myself. In reality, though, nothing changed. I kept mining, wondering when the weather would hit, and only realised a while later that I'd been standing in -75c for about five minutes with little effect.

I can appreciate erring on the side of caution to appeal to lots of players, but as it stands there is no survival aspect. Your suit's life support and other systems are topped off almost as an after thought, from often plentiful resources, and sheltering in a three foot crater will replenish your heat/cold/radiation tolerances. Hello Games doesn't need to ape games like 'Don't Starve' but when NMS is crying out for some deeper systems it just makes no sense to soft soap survival.

Take base building as an example. I agree that this should be limited to a pre-fab style camp, but even then what would be the point of it? A place to stash more items? Make the conditions harsher and it could serve a useful purpose, with the player either needing to retreat there when a storm/temp drop hits or use more resources than normal to maintain their exo-suit. Of course this would also mean cutting the ability to jump into your ship, recharge, jump back out and repeat.

Am I right in thinking that crashed ships are always going to be 1 inventory slot higher or lower than your current ship? If thats the case that sucks!

I have not found anything better yet, all crashed ships I have looked at 1 slot above or below mine. I just went and purchased a 25 slot instead & then glitched the game to move that upgrade back to my original starting ship which now has 25 slots.

That was my fear. So I either have to farm lots of credits or go an get 20 distress beacons to get a max inventory slot ship.

I've had a crashed ship with + 2 slots at least twice but that's it. You also seem to find crashed ships with similar equipment to your own and similarly, when you are buying a ship they tend to have similar equipment. Apparently (I've not tried this) the equipment installed affects the price. So if your defo buying then strip your current ship down.
