No Man's Sky - Interceptor

I've not purchased the game yet, but I have a question. Is it possible to play the game without resource gathering and management? I know it was mentioned that it was possible during interviews but with all that's changed during development is it possible with the release version?

No, you could walk around on the 1st planet but that would be it.

You need resources to get your exosuit, ship & multi-tool repaired. Then begins the upgrade cycle.

So i saw a Vic Viper lookalike in a thread the other day and was wondering if there are any ships that share similarities with R-Types protagonist?

Flying any R-9 and shooting up/ farming Bydo in a huge universe like this (less colourful pls) is pretty much my lifelong gaming dream.

I still haven't found an anomaly to get the atlas path after five jumps. What am I missing?

To start the path:

Spoiler

You have to have chosen to accept the help of the red ball at the start.   When you make you 3rd or 4th jump an Alien Ruin will be automatically marked on a planet for you when you reach the system.  Visiting it will add a waypoint for the Atlas path.

If you didn't accept the red ball's help

Spoiler

come your 5th / 6th jump a space anomoly should be immediately marked on your hud when you reach the system.  It has a different icon to everything else, and it's like a space station.  Go inside and you'll see what happens.

You don't need to do system scans / use L3 to find them.  They happen by themselves.

It really does seem like the different classes of systems yield the most abundant planets. This is apparently an 'O' class system:

Can't see the vid, but what denotes the 'class' of system - is it the star colour?  I've noticed the ones on the path to the centre all seem to be white/yellow so far..

Ah cool, thanks.  I don't want to read too much myself, but have noticed the different colours off to the sides..  Gives me a new mini quest at least :D

Also, was having a chat with someone at work who has theorised the reason for the game ending up seemingly feature-short..  So you know that thing about the super formula?  What if (despite them saying they didnt use it) they had used it, and at the last minute had to gut a core part of the galaxy generation... Hello Games had (apparently) been saying they were using it up until the last 6 months or so...

The plot thickens.

Nah, that'd be the models for the world's and stuff, not all the game mechanics people are largely on about.

Yes, but what if those mechanics were half way through being developed when the team suddenly had to drop everything to create a new generation method, that's what I'm getting at.

As far as conspiracy theories go that does sound like a good one. It does feel like they used to know what planets would be like and now they don't, hence having to put Plutonium growing out of the ground on every planet in the universe. [Primarily near landing pads].

Plutonium hasn't been on every world I've seen! and when it has, it's mostly in caves. I almost got stuck on one planet but I found some boxes of the stuff by the save point, but as for it appearing 'naturally', not always.

I think I may have to start over again unfortunately.

Built the hyperdrive & was given a waypoint on the next planet, I presume to talk to an ugly alien guy who would give me a blueprint for a Warp Cell.

Problem is the waypoint is underwater, doesn't appear to point to anything, disappears when I get close to it & I drown before being able to hunt around & see if it's in an underwater cave or something. Can't see how I can progress without starting over. :(

I found a waypoint for a monolith underwater so I dove in. Immediately my RAD level went up to 150 so I hopped out, built an aeration membrane and a rad shield and went back in. When I got down to the marker it disappeared but there was some sort of underwater tunnel. I followed it FOREVER and just before I died I found the monolith in an underwater cavern. Fuck that

Man I want to play this game! If someone who is bored with it could send me their copy, and their PS4 to go with it, that would be just dandy.

Try the thread dedicated to slagging it off.

Ha, I was wondering if you'd managed to play it!  It's kind of half good. :D

Next time, just put some more Titanium into the rebreather thing. :) You can even wait until your oxygen is about ot run out before doing it, and that will refill itself after you 'reload' the aeration membrane.  Same with the rad shield.  You can top up the defense.

(both of these features are a bit daft imo, seeing as you can carry enough stuff for tons of top ups..)

It's definitely been plentiful on every planet I've visited.  I've made over 20 jumps.  I mean there are planets where it seems rarer, but it is everywhere!!

Most of the time, though the planet I was on was nearly almost dead, like a red rocky planet, no water or trees, had hardly anything on it apart from some spires of gold and odd cactus type plants and the odd zinc plant. I scanned everywhere and no Plutonium came up. It was very strange!

That sounds cool!

What would you do if you genuinely couldn't find any Plutonium anywhere on the planet though and you couldn't take off? Are you stuck?

well that's the thing, you can still get in the little boxes near save points and shelters so I don't think you'll ever be stuck and they are on every planet....but who knows!?

Buy some from one of the trading places?

Yeah requesting a rescue mission would be a good solution, and it should cost you a lot of money. Guess it was easier to code way more Plutonium everywhere. Are HG going to keep working and improving on this? Or is it more a case of moving onto another project (perhaps a sequel?) after a few patches?

They've said they are. Given the general reaction I think that's decreasingly likely.

I wouldn't have thought that they'd be able to change the composition of the universe in a patch without forcing everyone to start over. Wasn't that what happened with the launch patch? They'd be limited to changing the aesthetics or adding features, but how could they change how the algorithm generates planets?

This post is admittedly made from a position of complete ignorance.

You didn't have to start over after the day one patch, it was just encouraged as you would have missed some content.

It would have resulted in the planet you were standing on changing completely when you loaded up but it could be done.
