No Man's Sky - Interceptor

Ironically, it seems I completely misread your post. Although it's not actually ironic - as that's exactly the point about not getting things right every time - more embarrassing, I suppose.

If you're talking only about the consoles with numerical puzzles, they're the simplest things in the world and there's no reason to get them wrong ever. One type just has a sequence of four digits that rotate from right to left. So the fourth arrangement after the three previous rotations should always be obvious. The other is just a sequence of multiplications which are linear, so if the second number is 2* the first, and the third 3* the second, the fourth should again be obvious. That sort of thing.

You probably aren't talking about that though because it's too obvious. In fact, I've no idea what you want really. Yunnankanq interloper. Itanglich? Ormaneium rudo xixim xoisa. Fangka gelantumbein!

When you start the various consoles and get a multiple choice question as to what frequency to try for a distress signal etc.. is there an actual  way to get it right 1st time?  -I save just beforehand and root if I get it wrong

The ones that aren't just rotate the numbers are all sequences, e.g. add/multiply the two previous numbers, add/multiply an ascending sequence (previous number * 4, previous number * 5, etc), double the previous number & subtract 1.  That sort of thing.

I read more of that Reddit "missing" list. It's quite sad that such a comprehensive undertaking is considered worthwhile. Yeah, some of that lot isn't in the game yet, and may never be, but "keeping this here for prosperity" for things demonstrably in the game? Yeah, sorry, not interested in Murray's first born. If someone here had done it, it'd just be a quick post.

Whatever :) I need to take a night off, but here I am.

Finally bought first ship! I found a 23 slot clunker for 800k, except I only had 700k on me. Cue frantic dash to sell my Emeril and get back to it. First time I've just sat in a space port watching ships come and go. You couldn't design some of these things, they look amazing. And stupid. But amazing.

Bit annoyed with online services. Everything I discovered last night was back to default today. Renamed it all again, got the green ticks again. Online was online, briefly. No idea if they'll stick.

With such an extended scanner, I'm now finding stuff underground. Took me a while figure that out.

Edit- oh, a vein of iridium, kinda arcing out of the ground! Don't need it yet, but that was new to me.

Holy shit the game runs great on my laptop! Can't get the DS4 to work though. To the PC spec thread!

It just won't work for me unless the game specifically supports it. Plenty people don't have a problem.

Eh? If you use ds4windows then you can just tick a box. To emulate 360 pad.  It's a great tool, you can use the track pad to move mouse pointer, or remind any controller input to any key / mouse input!

The survival in extreme conditions metric seems to have un-borked itself. I spent ages last night running around learning Korvax in a highly radio-active environment with frequent storms, picking up gold in the crystalline form and a purple material, and I think I put on 2 milestones.  So, I have amassed the 2.2m finally and am in the market for a 25 slot carrier.  It is also a planet with a thriving wildlife which is nice as I've had a lot of barren planets of late, and it's tempting to try for a genuine 100% completion.

I repeat though that Atlas Stones appear reasonably frequently in vendor inventory and therefore it isn't the end of the world if you sell yours, just a wee bit expensive to replace them later should you choose to do so.

Heh, I spent a good chunk of time at the end of my session last night exploring some epic caves on the little green-atmophere moon at the end of my screenshots.  There was a super cool-looking cave entrance near the last outpost I visited; it was bursting with plant life compared to the totally barren surface.   Those little grey chest icons man, so many!!  And they were all Emeril   I made nearly a million moonquid by just turbo jetpacking through the caves for about 20 mins.  So satisfying!

Hoping I find the rank 3 warp soon..

Nah it doesn't work for me for some reason.

Space battles!

I went to my first distress beacon last night, one there was actually something happening. Lots of small ships were attacking a large ship, kind of like Frigates vs a battle ship. Now my first problem was, who are these guys? There's no indication on their faction or intentions, I tried to get involved by taking out some of the small ships, (my size) but they seems to fast and agile and I wished for a HOTAS joystick or better ship controls..... so I just gave up. It would be handy if more of these situations presented themselves so I could get some practice. I just feel really limited with the ship controls to enjoy the combat....

I got into a space battle once, too. Took out like 5 or 6 of the 25 attacking craft (I think) then got too close to the capital ship and it killed me, even though I thought I was defending it. Will probably try and figure it out next time.

Yeah, I looked at the cut stuff... Most of it is of no consequence to me. The only thing I really want is the ability to place waypoints/markers on stuff. I'm also not sure about the system/star stuff. I swear I've landed on a planet in the day, the sun visible in the sky, then taken off at night and the sun was on the other side of the planet when I got into space. Surely that means that something is rotating or moving round somewhere. As a test, has anyone tried to fly into the star in a system?

And seeing as I'm now in a bit of a critical thinking mood, here's some things I can't just 'forgive' Hello Games for, daft, simple things:

Navigating the Star Map

- Why do i have to slowly scroll between jump points, even when I can comfortably jump about 5 or 6 systems a time?

- Why does it let me pick points on the path that are beyond my jump range?

- Why does it take longer than is reasonable to display the text that tells me I am outside my jump range?

Navigating a System

- Why does a system scan just find one 'location' on a random planet? So cumbersome and slow.

- Why can't a planet scan tell you the conditions of the planet before you land? (e.g. low atmoshpere, toxic, etc)

Waypoints / Buildings / On Planet

- Why do I see the exact same number puzzle over and over?

Inventory:

- Why can't the craft menu stay open after I've used it?

- Why can't I use the dpad to scroll through the boxes quickly? (this mouse pointer interface is SHIT for most things tbh)

- Why can't I use L1/R1 to scroll pages of recipes?

- Why can't I reposition any item I want?

- Why can't I click on a stack of carbon, then click on a stack of heridium, and have them swap position?

NPCs

- why does it take so long to show the options when using a shop / talking to another pilot? Nnnnnngh!

I've also heard that the Atlas Passes v2 and v3 aren't actually in the game yet.   That's really fucking shoddy if true! :(

Yeah, they're all valid UI criticisms and all of them would be nice to see implemented. The inability to swap around items in your inventory apart from swapping to ship then swapping back is particularly anoying, especially as you get boosts if connected upgrades are placed together.

I assume many of the people complaining have given up or reached a conclusion too early, because they often seem to be moaning about 'missing' features that I've certainly seen in my game - someone was going on about how 'rare' large bodies of water were the other day, which isn't my experience at all. There are obviously things that haven't made it in from some of the videos, and hopefully some of them will appear at some point, but I think there are a fair few people who don't really grasp the nature of the game and have had 'unlucky' starting seeds. The game's scope and general lack of guidance won't help in those situations, and of course on the internet those voices can quickly add up. There's a whiff of ethics hanging over the whole thing, isn't there?

Ah well. I can understand being disappointed about missing features and misleading statements, but I can't really fathom being disappointed in the game as released, which continues to astound me. On a conceptual level alone, it's staggering.

A lot of the stuff in dood's list there is patchable, of course (and I agree with the majority of them), so fingers crossed.

Anyway, I had a weird glitch yesterday. I mined a fortune on a Venom Sac planet and went off to buy a bigger ship. I found one, and bought it. Took it out of the station and ran straight into pirates, so I ran straight back into the station.

Then I made a cup of tea, came back and launched again. But! Then I realised I hadn't transferred my inventory, which included a load of gold I was saving for a warp upgrade.

Gah!

But then I remembered that the last two saves were available! So I paused and loaded up the oldest of the saves. It put me back in the station, but still with the new ship sitting there. Oh well, I thought, lesson learned. I boarded and took off for the next planet and did some gathering. When I got back to the ship, I thought I might as well make use of the new space.

But!

When I opened up the inventory, there was all my gold and other stuff, and I only had 20 spaces instead of 25. So it was basically my old ship on the inside, but the new ship on the outside. And sure enough, I hadn't noticed that my credits had gone back up to 14 million.

What is up with that?

(The annoying part is that the new ship has a bad cockpit view, which didn't get reset.)

So if you like your ship's capacity but wish it looked different, this could be a useful, if risky, glitch.
