No Man's Sky - Interceptor

Done my second warp jump, arrived at the monolith which it highlighted & The Atlas is still pissed off with me about ignoring its big red ball when I started the game.

Have I missed out on the Atlas stuff altogether now, as that would be a bit shitty if so?

I didn't actually acknowledge the monolith so if there's anything I can do to get back in it's good graces before I do, can someone let me know please?

In spoilers is fine if it could be stuff other people wouldn't want to know the answer to, thanks.

According to the August 7th update on the website, I just noticed they mentioned "what's coming"..

Next up we’re adding the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters. Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visually.

I'm interested in the cloud rendering.  Maybe they'll make the clouds more realistic.

I wonder how advanced the base building is? I hope it's kept fairly simple. Whatever they do, I can't imagine it'll be as complicated or as fiddly as something like Fallout 4. Also, I'd like to build a little console so when someone visits and presses the button, a little message from me pops up.

Moved on from my Vortex Sphere covered land in search of more ships. Managed 6 crashed ship repairs over the evening, going from 30 slots to 36 with a range of designs.

Has two of these which is not only fugly but too big to be allowed. I did have on ship even bigger and I'll tell you it's annoying in the bigger ships because you sometimes cannot get into them from some angles, having to runaround to get the interact icon to pop up.

Final pick up of the night is probably also the nicest design.

Overall I'm still enjoying being in the world massively but there's a lot of repetition. Be it the game play, most of the structures, flora, fauna, it's all a bit amen if I was to be honest. Yes there are subtleties and surprises still but it's telling to me that when I look at most screenshots I feel like I've seen it or something close enough.

Everytime someone says it's boring, or there's nothing to do I agree. But then I'm still playing avidly after putting in at least 25-odd hours so far.

"Giant space freighters" wonder if they mean these, cause I want that one.

Yeah 'owning' is an interesting word. I'm imagining something like a moveable home base. Not something you pilot but it hangs around where you are for storage and can also act as extra firepower against large groups of pirates. I bet whatever it turns out to be it'll be bloody expensive...

I don't get the point of base building, or owning a freighter. Base building especially doesn't seem to fit with the ethos of ever moving forward that they have. They sound cool, but I can't see the point of them in the context of the game unless it's going to change substantially as it goes on.

This is now constantly crashing whenever I attempt to make a Hyperspace jump.

As great as this game is, and I really do like it, it's gotta be in one of the most fucked states of a game launch ever.

As someone who has had 1 crash I would have to disagree.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 however...

I understand the freighter cause those can come along with you... maybe your spacecraft can be parked in the freighter, and you can drive the freighter to orbit a planet you're currently near.. go down to the planet, grab resources, and beam them up to the freighter in orbit.

Would be a good use for it due to limited inventory.

Also, freighters could potentially give us the ability to store multiple spacecrafts.

On the topic of my previous post of pinning recipes, I cant seem to find out how to do it. I've seen numerous videos that have the "press triangle to pin this diagram" but its not present on any of mine. What am I doing wrong? Apologies if I've posted about something that I thought would be of use, and has since been removed or whatever

On PC I just press X on the keyboard to pin the recipe.  Should show up when you highlight which recipe you want to pin..

Erm, what?

I think you're underestimating the amount of planets. There are oceans, you just haven't seen them yet. And I've definitely seen sheer cliffs. I mean, I could see the bottom, but that's the case in real life too.

If anything I haven't seen any flat planets! I'm craving a huge desert or grassy plain.

Jesus Davros, I know you're in love with this but your completely unequivocal praise and defence sounds as mental as the Gaf thread. The planets are flat, no mountains or valleys or any real changes in elevation like a planet would have. Every single one is smoothed off to a degree that it's clearly an overall design thing, not a case of people not seeing stuff yet. The statistical likelihood of every planet I have ever been on and every screenshot I have seen just happening to lack terrain height variation is zero. They have chosen to have every single planet be pretty much smooth for design reasons, but it's one of several design choices that make the planets far more homogenous than they need to be.

Those Oil drums can sometimes be fun to chase. It would be funny to see a video of seeing how far the longest one could roll for.

By the way the Atlus missions are on your space navigation guide (someone said they hadn't seen the Atlus missions).

You follow a different set of systems - but if have found/given the atlus missions they appear if you select the waypoint diamonds at the very top.

If they're not in your ships computer i guess you'll have to go back and get them?. Not sure.

I've got a gold path in the galaxy map thing, I've followed that path ten to fifteen jumps, but I keep hearing people mention Atlas passes, anomalies and stuff and I feel like I've missed something.

I enjoyed this this for a few days but now that I've bought a nice ship it's lost it's direction a bit. I was aiming for that but now I have it I'm just aimlessly jumping along the gold line through pretty much identical systems. There's no real reason to mine for resources because there's not really anything to buy. The massive amount of upgrades on my ship and suit add no noticeable benefit to any of the things I've upgraded. I'm pretty sure I should have found a better warp drive or different coloured star or something but I haven't and I don't know what I'm supposed to do really.

So yeah, a great few days but I don't think I'd recommend paying £50 for it. Might just google what's at the center and save myself 200 more hours of the same thing.

Maybe it's all an homage to the grandad of buggy space sims, the utterly borked Frontier: First Encounters. There's a disappointment I'll never forget :(
