I did ask this the other day, but am going to ask it again..

Can the mining laser damage terrain?

If not, wtf are the point of the upgrades to terrain destruction (that have a green laser icon)?

I think it means it's faster mining the lumps of minerals you chip away at, as well as things like crystals.

Aaah of course, the ones with the diamond icon do say 'mineral rich', which I suppose means the big ore piles and crystals, but the other mod is for things like trees and rocks (iron).  Thanks! Obviously having a bit of a brain fail there!

Did they nick the interface from Bungie? (Destiny)

Also, I swear I can hear Pink Floyd samples in this.

The Sentinels : Welcome to the Machine

Running around inside a cave : On the Run (Dark Side of the Moon)

I don't know about that but I wish the music would stay on the side of ambient as when it gets a bit more urgent it is quite awful although,  to be fair,  it is then exactly as shit as I would expect from 65 Days of Static.

I think the crystalline forms are the richer or more concentrated ones where there are both raw (slab) and crystalline versions in the game e.g. gold, aluminium & erelil.

Adding even a +1 to the beam makes a difference - I think I have +4 on it now.  I am not too sure why you need to bump it up too much for combat unless there are some much tougher aggressive beasties  out there.  I like a high intensity grenade though.

I am pretty certain that certain waypoints in the game - possibly around upgrading one's ship - trigger the release of new blueprints - after a long barren spell I have  picked up all the theta level ones in the last day or so, after getting my first new bird.  I now figure it would be a waste of time exploring facilities and need to knuckle down to earning some cash, because I have the where with all to craft new drives and am eager to explore the new systems.  A few slots into shield and weapon enhancements wouldnt go amiss either - the whole pirate thing is just a nuisance currently.

Mike S is a right miserable bastard outside of the Dark Souls threads! :(

Haha!

I'm not,  I'm sitting in the sun with a cold beer now!   VERY CHEERFUL.

Although I have been to several very gloomy planets recently,  one of which accommodated my first hostile beast so that was a downer.

I'd never heard of them before this, but I love what I hear.

That said, I don't know what it'd be like with no context.

That video fucking slayed me and while 99% of the animals are shonky as sin it did make me think all the way home that the core gameplay should have focused way more on the discovery and way less on mining and inventory management.

If they'd bothered to make sure each planet had a handful of biomes with creatures only appearing in their specific areas (they already sort of do with fishies appearing in water) and massively upped the rewards for discovering stuff - not just adding a couple of 0s on every unit reward but having ships, multitools, modules (not just recipes but the actual mod).  Make it one of the 'paths' a mysterious A.I has you cataloguing all the species in the Galaxy looking for that elusive clue to the secret of life blah blah blah less divergence than expected, starseed, vorlons, simulation theory etc ... You'd have way more incentive to actually go spelunking or tramping about the entire planet.  Especially if to discover everything you needed to interact with the world in some way.  The current system of 'hold trigger to analyse' then 'hold triangle to rename and upload' is atrocious.

I know everyone has said about the need for maps but making cartography an actual game mechanic too - my favourite phase of any 4X game is the exploration but it's nothing without it sketching out that map.  Just a few more tasks to round out the experience.  Otherwise you might as well just be looking at everyone else's screenshots.

This game has so many possibilities I'm just worried people will have burnt out on it before all the good shit comes.

Like a cantina in some space stations with alien bands, music, and people offering missions and such. That one improvement would extend gameplay quite a bit I think. One idea of loads that would help replayability.

Bloody hell, can't find Iridium anywhere. :(

Some of the big asteroids are made of it, but there's no reliable way of knowing which ones. And no bugger is ever selling it. Even when on an irradiated planet, I don't think I've yet found an actual source of it. (Yet, apparently Plutonium is the universe's most plentiful material!)

Been mining it today from asteroids - they tend to be more angular / boxy planar in shape - it's quite distinctive when you see it, although not that common.  You can also find gold and nickel asteroids but the concentration of metal in those is weak compared to planetside deposits (or maybe the ship tool is too weedy).

You can find it on planets too.  I found some formed into an arch.

Shit! I have a horrible feeling I left behind a planet full of that stuff a few jumps ago... Didn't realise it was so valuable at the time!
