Stupid waypoints. Does greyed out mean visited? And not greyed out mean not visited? If so do beacons sometimes highlight (and un-grey) waypoints that you've been to? Because I'm sure I'm going to ones that aren't greyed out and they're bloody places I've been to.

Also been on this planet for about four days now and not found a single one of those bloody places to respawn my poor ship.

Don't fret it.  I still don't entirely understand how markers work in this but IT DOESN'T MATTER.  Do what you want on any particular planet and move on.

You can call your ship from any manufacturing facility or ops centre or trading outpost.

Look at this little motherfucker! He's got places to be!

:D I met a similar fella, though he was more birdlike. Kept strutting around me while making sure I was watching. I fed him and he, er... shat out some gold.

I've got visions of @Sng just traipsing about for the next 6 months, beard starting to poke out of his helmet and still muttering about his bloody ship.

I haven't played for 2 days (oh noes! etc) and was starting to panic about "falling behind" with a 10 slot tool and fractionally better than noob but looks like a BSG viper ship. But you know what, seeing some of the grind here makes me think I shouldn't fret and just take it slow. I haven't even been in a cave yet, or warped.

Chill, Stu.

There's only grinding if you want to grind. I'm not really doing any of that, I'm basically sight-seeing and dicking about getting into scrapes.

The game has gone up in my estimation even more though since I found a planet that actively wants to kill me, despite looking like Eden.

This guy was such a contradiction. He also seemed to want me to do his garden for him, as all he wanted was the carbon from the trees in his back garden, though I suspect he was smoking what I gave him, as he kept telling me he was high. He then blabbered something about blood a few times. Needless to say I wasn't keen on him healing me. He could also do with putting a fence up, as sentinels kept pestering me every time I tried to tidy up his back lawn. Bloody lazy hippy Vy'keen.

I gave it a rest for last night, hoping that the 100% species problem would somehow resolve itself and allow me to upload my achievements next day. It still didn't work.

Conversely, the brand new system I visited with a 0 species planet, would allow me to upload that as complete for 0 credits. I'll be honest, it really bothers me that I can get a milestone credit for that with no effort at all, but the planet where I put a lot of work into finding all the animals, can't/won't be recorded.

I'm shelving this until it hopefully gets patched.

One final thought before I disappear - aren't the power cells items completely useless? The description says they optimise power storage within inventories, but they aren't stackable. So keeping them is actually less efficient than just storing the carbon itself, which can be used in multiple ways. If they made the cells stackable it would make a lot more sense - as it is I just bin them as soon as I get them.

Don't they just correspond to the +1, +2 etc shown on the icon?

The environmental suit upgrades don't have the numbers on the icons.

Conversely, some of my ship laser upgrades all have +1 on the icon even though they are labeled as Tau/Sigma/Theta. Confusing limitations or just another thing that needs patched?

I have a few differently named blueprints for pulse drive upgrades that have no visible stats at all and the same description in the text. No way of knowing which is better, as far as I can tell.

I suspect they're just different recipes for the same thing, though.

My new ship now has the sigma, tau and theta warp drive upgrades. I messed up a bit on my last ship by dismantling the sigma when I built a tau, thinking the old one would be redundant, but it turns out you need them all in order to visit all the different kinds of systems.

One thing I'm not convinced with their implementation of is hazard shielding boosts. You can add shields for specific types to your hazard. So for say hot planets I currently have two extra shield boosts I can add to my suit. Each one takes up a slot in the suit and each one drains fuel constantly (zinc or titanium). There are some issues with this.

1. Uses suit slots

2. Uses the pretty rare titanium/zinc

3. Drains far, far too quickly

The three combined means I really don't want to use them. The downsides far outweigh any benefits. What I end up doing on these sorts of planets is just staying close to the ship so I can get my base hazard shields recharged. I'd like to see this tweaked or changed.

Personally I think the fact that these types use suit slots is downside enough. Suit slots are valuable. Make the shields give a flat boost to the effectiveness of the hazard shields and remove the fuel requirements for the boosts.

Otherwise either drastically slow down the speed the shields drain or let us fuel them with something more common. Or make zinc far more common that it is. I know pre-patch you could fuel these things with carbon.

Also the type of ship I'm flying has a bug. The cockpit is so high up just getting out most of the time causes the loss of nearly a quarter of your shields. Which really need to slowly recharge while you're out of combat.

I'm making 1.2 million a run with my new ship. That 43 slot ugly will soon be mine

Probably just me misunderstanding it.

Power cells are handy if you have space as they negate the need for mining in the lazy, but I'm pretty gung ho now about just binning stuff.

Except Plutonium though. Never bin Plutonium...

Landed on an interesting planet, quite lush, turquoise grass and with constant freezing rain, plus the occasional freezing storm.  I had a solitary marker on it after scanning from space; an abandoned building.  Notice on approach that there's a building with a single landing pad within 200m.  I head inside and make use of the shop etc.

Scanning the vicinity, I find a bunch of knowledge stones so go to hoover them up.  And that's when I saw it: a floating, slowly spinning red cube.  I had no idea what it was!  Didn't show up on the scanner.  I approach: 'Vortex Cube' says the description.   I take it.  Immediately get attacked by 3 sentinels, who I easily dispatch.  Check the inventory screen - oh! This cube is quite valuable!

I mine some gold stack nearby, then notice there's another Vortex cube right next to it.  I look across the landscape.. Oh my goodness.  There are scores of them!   So now I've gone full Gorf King and am farming these things like a motherfucker.  Sentinels don't have a chance vs my melee jet pack boost trick!

Had a couple of hairy moments though... Firstly, getting caught out in a storm, with no titanium to replenish my environment protection.. Whoops!  A frantic sprint / melee boost back to my ship saved me. Phew.

Second time though, another, more violent, storm had kicked in which really reduced visibility.  No biggie, I had titanium this time!  Once I'd filled my inventory, I spun round looking for my ship icon...  Oh God.  It's gone.  I'm lost.  There's a bunch of sentinels shooting at me.   I havent been paying attention to landmarks..

Fuck!

Thankfully I found my ship icon within a few minutes, it was a bit of a scary moment though!

Made about 300k each trip, and about 1.5 million before there were no cubes near the shop any more.   :D

Fucking cubes though, they are wrecking my exploration of this planet..  Every way point I visit has a whole new bunch of them to steal..  I find it hard not to fill my boots and go sell them each time

Aye, just checked and it's actually quite broken - the multitool ones generally make sense if you assume that sigma, tau and theta are attached to +1, +2 and +3 respectively (if you ignore their order in the Greek alphabet). But the pulse jet sigma upgrade has no number at all, many of the ship upgrades don't add up, and some of my suit upgrades have sigmas giving +1 and tau giving +2, and some have +4s... so it really doesn't make much sense. It's either unnecessarily obscure and complicated, or just plain broken. Either is possible with the UI, to be honest.

I also have that ship that occasionally breaks your legs when you get out of the cockpit on uneven ground.

On a different note, the grind is starting to get a little tiresome, despite finding some hilarious creatures and enjoying the drip feed of the story. I've made over 15 warps now, and the planets are very much alike. I am getting the feeling that I've now seen everything the game has to offer.

It's also left me seriously wondering if I should just bite the bullet, buy an Xbone, and get Elite Dangerous.

Why are you grinding? Just keep adventuring!

Also if you thinking the grind in this is repetitive, don't bother with Elite... :P

Not far off! I've seen over 70% of this planet but haven't found a single place to respawn my ship. No trading post I've been to has had one. Not sure what an obs center is but no POI I've been to on this planet yet (and I've been to bloody loads) has had one.

The only manufacturing facility I've found is nine hours away. Tempting.

75 carbon makes 1 power cell (I think, game isn't on atm). One slot holds one power cell, or 250/500 carbon. Carbon directly powers all the same stuff as the cell. They are completely pointless!

Yup. They need to take less minerals to make rather than just use the minerals to charge and they need to stack. I don`t see the point in them otherwise. If you`re going to a planet with very little carbon you`re actually better off stacking a load of carbon on the ship.

Ah cool, so you need them all to travel everywhere,

Sigma red

Tau green

Theta blue

and more.

Makes sense now that with them all you won't be locked into a 'lane' on the Galaxy map.

god help their Q&A department.

Weird ship bug last night. In a space station, bought a 23-slotter to finally replace my starter ship. Immediately changed my mind (buyer's remorse) and reloaded a previous save. But accidentally reloaded an older save (down on a planet), so quickly re-reloaded the most recent one just before I bought the new ship.

So my old ship is still next to me, it still has the 15 slots and all my stuff on/in it and my monies are all intact. But... It's now the physical model of the ship I bought and regretted, with that new ship name. But everything else is the same! So I got a free visual upgrade and a nicer cockpit view if nothing else.

No idea how the new ship model ended up in the older save game though. Weird.
