Just watched a Digital Foundry video on NMS on YouTube and all they did was gripe about some stupid graphical issues, rather than focus on what an amazing universe these guys have created.

That's what Digital Foundry are supposed to do. Their entire remit is to focus on graphics, engine, framerate etc.

The bug where you launch straight into space from the ground needs to be fixed pronto. It can get you killed when you're pissing off the sentinels

Mind you the best part about this planet I'm on now is the station is a 4 second pulse jump away so even if I get attacked they can't catch me before I dock

Every time I get in my ship, I pop out to make a save, then get back in. Its saved my arse a few times. Well worth doing, and doesn't take more than a few seconds.

Holy motherfucking shit. Just helped a Vykeen build a nuclear warhead and he gave me plans to build a Warp Reactor Tau. That's the third type

Got one too, from my knowledge of the Gek language enabling an ops centre to get back on-line :omg:.

I've jumped through a few star systems now, following the Atlas path, but am I the only one who finds the Galactic Map a bit confusing when trying to backtrack to a system you've already visited? I can never seem to find them, none of it seems to make much sense. Maybe I'm being thick. Mind you, I do feel this is a game that because of how huge it is, isn't really made for backtracking. You're always meant to be pushing forward in some way.

I thought I figured out the map - knowing where I came from, need to go to and can go to, using R1/L1 to switch paths, freely search the universe for interesting systems and warp to where-ever.

But then I went through a black hole last night and feel like I ended up quite far away - if not on the other side of the galaxy  Revisiting systems seems like a huge trek, so I guess I'll just keep moving to new places...

It's difficult to backtrack because they don't want you to backtrack! Just keep going forward. You don't need to min-max.

Don't you listen to him! This is a game of galactic freedom, where you can do whatever you want, wherever you want. It's limitless and without rules or boundaries, beyond our petty earthbound jealousies, concerns and restrictions. If you want to struggle for a quarter of an hour to find the last place you've been, only to get there and be trapped forever by a heady mixture of 90% greed and 10% a completely different type of greed, then be my guest. No, literally - come on over here. We'll have a ball. EVEN IF I AM TRAPPED HERE FOREVER I NOW HAVE 12 MILLION DOLLARS, A MASSIVE FUCK-OFF SHIP (that's going nowhere), AND 49 SLOTS IN MY FRIGGIN EXOSUIT, SO FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU! I BET THE CENTRE'S SHIT ANYWAY.

This is how I feel now. I've found my home and it's full of spiky balls

The little Vprtex Cubes just powered me though to max out my exosuit slots (and earn a bit more). They only spawn in caves and the planet I'm on has very relaxed sentinals so even if they see me grab one or carrying them they just don't care.

Now to work on this lowly 20 slot ship!

I'm really struggling with inventory. I've upgraded my suit by two and have the same ship as I started with. Not seen the option to buy a new one yet? Not that it matters, I only have around 200,000 credits.

So how do I deal with the small pockets? I'm guessing I'm doing it wrong. Should I just be mining stuff I need at that point? That an any extremely rare stuff. I pick up iron and carbon cos I need it for life support and mining. Is that wasted space? Should I just mine it last mini when I need it?

Is 48 slots the limit then?

Pretty sure it is. I've still got a way to go for that though. The last upgrade apparently costs 350,000 credits.

Find one of these:

That's where you'll upgrade your inventory slots.

@Sng The best thing to power your ship's launch thrusters, your life support and your mining laser with is plutonium. You can also use carbon for your laser and, I think, life support, but one unit of plutonium recharges more than one unit of carbon. There's not really any reason to carry much if any iron around unless you need to recharge your hazard protection - in which case it's normally easier just to leg it back to your ship - or immediately before you build something that needs it, and then you can normally find tons of iron just lying around almost anywhere.

spent a few days with this and although it does conjur up the glory days of sci fi art, and is very relaxing in the sense of exploring and discovering stuff. But I've sadly tired of this really quickly and find the repetition just didnt hold me. I'm really disappointed the meat and potatoes of the game isn't enough for me to invest in.

It is, and it does. I hit 48 and the next drop pod I found wouldn't let me do anything with the upgrade inside. The clicking, it does nothing.

Depressed now.

Might have to move on.

I don't know whether to buy this on PC or PS4.  I'd be able to run it on medium quality on my PC.  I do have a nice hotas stick for the PC, but I'm not sure if I could use it.  The game does seem to be perfect for reclining on a sofa while playing though which is a plus point for PS4.  I can hook my PC up to the TV fairly easily, but I'd have to use an xbox controller. The PS4 version is £10 more expensive.

Given all these variables, I'm paralysed and unable to choose.  What do you guys reckon?

One question though: How do I land on the landing pads with some regularity? I aim at them, and on occasion a crosshair appear and when it does, I land on the pad. Most of the time, it doesn't and I land on the floor. Is there a sure fire way to land on the pads?

I have the one after that. :P

Not used it yet. Been harvesting gravitino balls on this shitty ice planet for a while now.

Have you seen the PC tech thread? PS4, I'd say. It's a game made for a pad, not a stick, technical niggles aside.
