No Man's Sky - Interceptor

Played most of today and had a blast. Just lovely relaxed gaming.

Got my suit up to 32 slots now and they're becoming very expensive (over 200k now). But it means I rarely have inventory problems now other than when I'm on a crazy farming spree.

I've been up over 1mil units a few times from Emeril mining expeditions, as well as a moon with a bunch of Aquaspheres (sell for about 24k each) in its lakes. But due to spending all my cash on exosuit slots my ship is still only 20 slotted. Tomorrow I will rectify that.

i followed atlas till I got

2 atlas stones and a lv1 pass

then I painstakingly went back to my homeworld as I was concerned it was taking me away from centre and I am a homeboy at heart (plus it has emeril in large quantities). Now I am wondering if I should've continued as I get impression that story isnt sooooo long and you do it before you go to centre... maybe.

Anyway I am now tooling around in my home system upgrading and chilling... not sure what to do next but I am loving the hell out of it.

reviews are very mixed but I really don't care this is the game I dreamt of playing since Elite and Mercenary in the early 80s

I've had the same a few times, I think it's bugged. When it 'works' you get a capital ship under siege and you need to help, but completing that goal gives you nothing. Seeing the response by Gorf above, the big ships aren't always there (or anywhere), so this 'mission' is very buggy for me.

It's not bugged - the market is where the distress signal was sent from. If you take your time getting there, the ship will have been destroyed and pirates gone - but of course that doesn't change the location the distress call came from.

Another 3 hours and not one slot upgrade. This is starting to kill the enjoyment a bit for me. I'm constantly scrapping things in hope the next box has an upgrade or something but no another fuck bead or glyph. Only ever found one of those suit upgrades.

For me at the moment, that's the only real downside. Still loving the travel, mining and such. If I stopped playing I'd still be happy with what I paid.

Did get a nice multi tool and finally got on the path of Atlas (still no key unlock thing).

suit upgrades are either in "pods" or ahem spoiler

they are behind nearly every Atlas lv1 pass door in every space station, just follow the atlas path for about 5-6 jumps and you'll get the pass if you answer correctly. If not then look for pods.. if you find a doobry that asks for a bypass chip then bypass it and ask to find a "shelter" it'll usually point you to a suit upgrade pod

I'm up to 6.3 mil units and I'm reluctant to leave this planet. I'm getting 400k per run and I'm going to push onto 10mil before I buy a new ship. At least 30 slots (I just saw one with 29 for 4.5mil). Then I'm heading off again. I'm sure I'll run into another one of those planets at some point :)

Pro tip: if there's only one parking space at a facility, don't park there. That way the NPC ships can occasionally fly down and you can trade with them or check out their ship for purchase.

Yes. But on the downside you get a free launch (ie no Plutonium needed) if you park on the pad.

Anyone having a problem with exo suit blueprints not showing up? I got a +3 health one, and it said that I already knew it. I didn't recall having it, so checked my suit. Sure enough, it's not there. There's literally just two blueprints, a radioactive shield and a toxic shield. I have loads of starship and multi-tool blueprints, and I'm convinced I had a similar amount of exo suit ones. A bug?

I have to say I'm getting a bit bored of planet hopping. Once you're on them and have had a quick look around the stuff to do on them is largely the same.

I'm about 5 warps from the Atlas whatever. I think I'm just going to skip mucking around in those systems and jump all five straight to the Atlas path and see what's waiting at the end of it for me.

GET IN!

I did another 2 hours of hunting for the creature I mentioned in my last post (to 100% by starting planet) with no luck, decided to cut my loses and do a little sweep for drop-pods before calling it a day and found this mooching around at one of the landing sites...

100% complete, reward claimed and now off to my second planet. This one seems to be a toxic wasteland with shed loads of ore to mine/trade so it's going to be a different experience to the friendly lush landscapes of Ninja Prime that I've been used to.

Today's adventures:

I finally bought a new ship! I was very choosy about it. Not only did I need at least 23 slots, but I wanted each critical system to have free slots next to them for maximum upgrade potential.

After taking the new ship for a test drive around the system, I went back to the same space station. I noticed a ship on one of the pads that looked like my starter ship! I thought, "Oh wow, this is the first time I've seen another Fisher Price starter ship, I feel sorry for the sad alien bastard who has that one." Then I went up to the Fisher Price ship and it said "Abandoned"... yeah, it was my ship.

I found a lovely planet -- very Earth-like with green grass and blue skies. Dawn and dusk were a beautiful yellow haze, and then a purple nighttime. Nice big pillars of gold, relaxed sentinels, and lots of animal life. I could have lived there. And the other player who has been one step ahead of me all the way hadn't even visited this one, so I could even name it. I got a 100% scan on the fauna... the last elusive one was a second type of bird.

Just find a cave.. guaranteed Plutonium.

Few more planet shots from my playthrough today.  So far I've been lucky to not have run into a super ugly planet.  Or maybe I did and just didn't screenshot it.. ;)

The water can look amazing under certain conditions.. shame it looks repetitive from higher up.

The same planet looked really cool at night.. a pink foggy glow about it.

This next planet is the first one I've seen that had massive canyons and overhanging cliffs

The entryways to the cave systems on this planet were typically covered in a green moss that I found to be very pretty in a subtle way..

Found some planet full of Gravity balls so of course it was all fort Knox'd with drones Sentinals and dogs. Anyway was stopping at random and grabbing said balls, causing alarms to ring, when my beam weapon ran out of energy. Then when i got back to the ship i was fucking "sans platinum". (Well enough to charge the gun a bit, but not enough to escape).

So i wasn't going anywhere!

Sure the ship recharged my energy but fucking hell - lazers galore as i jumped out and ran for a bloody cave. And then when i got there it was one of those usually amazing "geological finds" where the Plutonium has aluminum crystals around it. FFS.

A nice technique is if your only a planet with lots of drones and a fair weapon, kill em and get their titanium and merge that with the usually plentiful amounts of plutonium. Instant 30k gem things (assuming you have the crafting abilty - but its within the first systems if you...you know..go to church).

Obviously it'll run out eventually but once you know somewhere with a shop - like one of the large colonial bases you find - you can do that for ages.

I have two issues.

(1) Have I dreamt this or isn't there places on a planet where you can access the network to sell stuff? I can't seem to find them anymore. The nearest space station is far away and I always get attacked on my way to it.

(2) I need to upgrade my multitool. Haven't done it as I have been saying all my credits for suit upgrades and a new ship. But now I don't get any more offers for a new tool, is there a special place where you can buy a new tool?

Only made a single jump, 6 planets in this system so I have spent hours just discovering and exploring the different planets.

Found three upgrades within five minutes! Shame the rest of the planet isn't up to much but you can't have everything.

Had a fantastic/tense/annoying 45 minutes. We landed on a right dive of a planet. You know you're in trouble when the computer warns you of extreme sentinel activity. We found a few things but didn't realise we were out of plutonium to launch. The water is high radiation, the ground is prone to severe storms. We landed on a tiny ship-sized island and dove down to find a point of interest. Turned out to be nothing more than a compound at the sea bottom. Let me save but there was no acccess point to anything else.

Climbing out I got killed by the radiation/lack of oxygen.

Re-spawned by my ship, and instantly got sentinel attacked again, combat/military ones. I had to get back to the grave (had all my hyper jump stuff in it) and had just enough plutonium to launch. However my grave is mid-air, but not low enough for the ship to go. It's also above water so I've got to in, thrust up, and try and grab the grave. All while being attacked by sentinels and having to contend with radioactive water and sea creatures. After a frustrating five minutes, I managed it. Got back to the ship and....I'm out of plutonium so can't launch. In slow motion, I see a sentinel just rising above the cockpit.

So I'm stuck. I made a run for it while being shot to pieces but no matter how far I got, I've got to cross the water (bad) and still find plutonium, which doesn't seem in any supply, let alone short supply. I get to land, barely, and the sentinels have deactivated. Find plutonium, just start mining and the sentinels return. Oddly, I got killed by local wildlife.

So I'm back at my ship and have to make the trek again. Just as arduous. I get to the grave, and start making my way back, only to realise half way back that when I died I didn't actually get the plutonium. So now I still need to find some. I get killed again, and need to trek back again. Finally, on a different route back, I find some atop a cliff and make a mad swim/run back to the island with my craft on. Take off instantly, break the atmosphere and get the hell out of the star system.

Which leads me to the planet I'm currently on. A decent planet but with the hostile sentinels. I have managed to add 3 slots and also got a better multi-tool though, so it's not all bad. This is the most I've played a game in ages, which is both good and bad.

Had my first hard crash as well, reset the game.

1. I think the game needs a camera/quick upload option for shots

2. I think in the space trade screen, ALL your stuff should show up, you shouldn't need to swap between what's in your suit and in your craft.

3. That's about it!

I forgot what this material was called, but it starts with an E, is green and has a high value.  Anyway, I mined only a tiny bit of that giant and managed to snag 267,000 units.

This planet is chock-full of them..  Also, note the little orange cactus with the green tip.  I named it 'Carrotactus'.

Later on in the day, the planet turned absolutely stunning though.  It took me by surprise.  Manage to snag myself a "Wish you were there" postcard:

This game is full of surprises.

Just experienced my first extreme weather storm. A lovely little planet with a heady 100 degree ambient temperature. Kick in some shit scary high winds, huge rolling dust clouds and a temperature spike of 300! It was like a cross between Mad Max Fury Road and Alien.

A genuine moment of panic as I realised I was quite a distance from my ship. Literally holding my breath as I run back, constantly topping up my health and Shields only to jump in to the cockpit at the very last sliver of health.

Fantastic.

That sounds awesome, did you get any shots or video?

I haven't even seen any rain yet.

After less than a week since release and I've clocked more than 30 hours in this game already. I haven't played a game this much in such a short amount of time since...well, I can't even remember. Maybe since the release of World of Warcraft.

Even before the official PS4 release, I saw plenty of user reviews that boldly stated that "After you've played it for 2-3 hours you've seen everything" and this still puzzles me.
While I'm fully aware that NMS isn't for everyone, I can't help but think a lot of the negative feedback comes from people who have either not played it at all or just decided they wanted to hate it from the very first moment.

Here's me, with nearly 35 hours played and I'm still running into surprises here and there that keeps fuelling my curiosity to keep playing.

I've also seen a lot of people who claim they didn't want to play it because "there's nothing to do".

That's another statement I'm puzzled about. After my time with the game, I simply wish there were more hours in the day so I could play it more, because I have so much to do in the game. After visiting the first anomaly I was torn between the two major choices, should I go for a black hole or chase the Atlas route. After I chose one of them I kinda regretted it and wanted to go the other way. Luckily I found a solution to do so. Since then I've basically gone back and forth between the two paths and to my big surprise it has been very rewarding for me. I've been drip fed snippets of intriguing information and lore, and I've started to get a more complete picture of how things work in this mighty fine galaxy.

I simply can't wait for my next session, and if the game is only half as entertaining for me going forward compared to my journey so far, I'm pretty sure I'll manage to easilly squeeze another 35 hours out of it without getting bored.

I've got toxic rain on my new planet, wasn't going to visit it but it has a space station in near orbit & I just popped down to see if it had any quick cash.

I've almost got the 1.3 million the new ship I've got my eye on costs so was looking for a quick win; the enormous gold & copper formations say I've found it!

Shame the planet is covered in the aforementioned toxic rain, although my new tactic is to mine a hole in the bottom of the formation so it clears the toxicity & the mine it all around myself.

Looking forward to finding a planet with some water, found a suit upgrade which allows prolonged underwater breathing. :)

Had to twice leave a planet without 100%ing the wildlife, not for want of trying, bloody annoying.

Regarding Atlas, I too ignored the initial orb, is it still possible to pick up that storyline if I want to? I'm only two or three steps into the story so far; did my first jump then picked up the Antimatter formula on the planet I warped to.
