I just can't get into this. Every planet is just... boring. Space is... boring. The buildings are all tiny things dotted around differently-shaded lumps of rock. It's literally depressing to play.

Now if there were planets full of cities, and amazing gunplay, and NO FUCKING SENTINEL things... yeah, I'd be more inclined to play it.

It's just so empty and, oddly, lifeless.

I'll probably burn out on it, but at the moment it's got a few good hooks. Once you get into the cycle of upgrading and wanting to find the next whatever it definitely feels less aimless.

I wish there were more to do in space. I find the scanning stuff boring and largely pointless.

There's definitely a rinse-and-repeat nature to the game, but frankly I love it. There's just enough going on to keep me wanting to move on, although I can see it being a bit lacking in action for others. 12 hours in and I've only had very brief space combat, and that was over pretty quickly as I zoomed past. Definitely Marmite. I like Marmite though.

I'm still hooked on it even though the new blue prints are beginning to stop, and the stupidly low level 10 thresholds have been achieved (only for the easy stuff of course :D).  Still getting decent variety of planet too although doubtless this will diminish eventually.

I come on here and say I need Aluminium.  Lo and behold, the very next planet has slabs of the stuff (it seems to have two forms in this).  Seek and you shall find!

Also, first contact with Korvax.

Creepiest animal encounter yet was a tallish biped, described as stalker..   That's exactly what it did - sort of crept up quietly behind as I was studying a plaque (I had the red paw marker to warn me which kind of spoiled it really), and no doubt would have fancied finishing me off except he wasn't given a chance.

The whole planet is just caves full of those, trading posts, and drop pods. Well worth the 15 minutes spent working out how to jump back to the place. I might end up being able to upgrade my ship at this rate - it only has half the slots of my suit.

I was doing something similar myself:

re the sentinel talk, I have been doing this:

I saw mention of ones bigger than the dogs? I bet they will drop decent loot :)

I think you're hitting the wrong button. R2 instead of l2 I think

Oops, yeah. Was hitting L1 instead of R1. I really need to sort my tool out, they're not all aligned up nicely like CG's there.

I'm not stressed over the lack of MP but someone on PS4 earlier was saying they hadn't heard Murray say there would be multiplayer. Apparently he said it quite a lot:

My guess is they wanted to have it but it was too difficult to make it work, which is understandable given the scope of the game. Also the way everything works, with it being generated and uploaded to the server suggests it's not really built for running server side stuff with you and your mates mucking about.

Just made my third jump and the system I've got to looks great.

But seriously what was so hard to explain about what the game was? It's exploration with light combat scanning for minerals to upgrade ship and gear and aliens. I think they were purposely vague. I really like the art and all planets I have been to are interesting and different. I think next step would be a fully procedural open world with the nemesis system and the mass effect conversation wheel. And maybe batman combat? Because everything has batman combat. Looking forward to no mans sky 2!

I imagine multiplayer was on the cards early on before getting removed. I'm happy with it being removed.

If it wasn't removed then sleep wouldn't work when coming out of rest mode. I'd rather this then having to log in every time I woke the PS4 like you had to with Destiny.

Someone tell me there's a way to remove waypoints from the galactic map. I added some on that are useless now, and when the game gives me a new one, it just doesn't get added to the map because there are already waypoints on it. :/

I've been loving the game, but the UI is shite and doing my head in.

You'd rather forfeit playing online altogether than have to log in to play online? You'll never play another online game then. Not that this has anything to do with NMS really.

With this, yeah. There's no real reason to play with someone else is there? What for? To run around mining stuff together. Might as well play your own games and just do a party chat.

And this is the kind of game where you wanna be able to quickly carry on from where you are so having it not quit out when you try to resume from sleep is the best thing about it. That's the best thing about PS4 to be fair. Maybe I'm just ridiculously impatient.

Alright, it's starting to sort itself out a bit - I was convinced I chose poorly by taking the DLC ship and rejecting guidance early on, but I've reversed that now as I have all the relevant recipes and parts for warp travel, and was offered a second chance at the guidance so chose to accept it this time.

Still can't forgive that inventory item sticking point, but now I can carry on without doubting myself.

I wonder if I'm walking too much - I just got the gold trophy for distance travelled on foot. I like the long journeys though. Plus I'm hoping to find the final species on my first planet. I pray to whatever God is in this world that it's not a flying animal.

The probability that he was talking bollocks in a quintillion interviews is extremely high.

When the new QA team add that ticketing system, I really hope it's accessible through the game. I found a typo on a blueprint description, completely low priority, but reporting it means fetching an image off the PS4 and then emailing them. I suspect they'll only get bug reports from fairly dedicated people using that mechanism.

Getting to the stage I would kill for an atlas pass, think I'm on the right track following the atlas path but the temptation is just to jump to a system, scrounge enough to build a warp cell and jump to the next which feels kind of wrong.

Speaking of parking, if you're touching down at a facility with a landing pad, dip the nose right down and hold L2 to keep her slow. As you pass over the landing pad, you'll notice it lights up with white arrows. At that point, immediately tap square and you'll land directly on the pad. Removes the guess work from plutonium-free launches.

I just entered a pre-order code sent to my email from Amazon. Now the game won't stop bugging me to accept a really shit multi-tool. 7 slots as opposed to my 12. I'm just going to have to accept it to stop the message flashing up on the screen. The hope I find something better.

If you go to the rewards menu, IIRC it pulls up a comparison window as you might while picking up any other tool from an outpost. Pretty sure you can refuse it. At least, that's how I remember the process was with the bonus ship.

The space stations look incredible, and then you go in and there's just a single bloke in there in a chair, presumably watching Space Netflix on his Space iPad.

Seems like a missed opportunity. Although I can't open the second door (on the left) until I have an Atlas pass so I dunno, maybe it's like a Star Wars cantina behind that thing.

Still on the first planet I've warped to, I can't actually get to this manufacturing plant that's been on the horizon, let alone think about leaving because every time I see anything; drop pod, building, ruin, etc I have to stop.

I logged on earlier intent on just powering on & ignoring everything, that lasted for three ? marks before I caved in.

I know almost 100 words of Vek'lan, as well as tons of lore & Ruins have now started to give me Atlas words as well, even though I've no idea what Atlas is / does yet.

Its killing me, I could be playing the game forever! :)

I refused it but it kept bugging me with the same message anyway. I accepted it in the end just to stop the message.
