No Man's Sky - Interceptor

If I buy a new ship can I transfer over the full charge on my Hyperdrive? Don't wanna lose all those warp cells/ antimatters/ electron vapours/ suspension fluids*.

* What a rather needless crafting faff that is by the way!!

One's enhanced, and I like swimming, and caves. It's saved my bacon - and my cargo - once already. Went in so deep I knew I didn't have time to turn back, so kept going and eventually grenade-blasted my way out through the roof when I got to a part so far across from where I started that I figured must be near the edge of the mountain. Just got out in time, hiked my way back to the trading post across the top of the range and cashed in my eggs pearls. First thing I did with my cash was fuel both those underwater enhancements up again. They're not giving up their slots for anything.

I see - you want the convenience of double the charge, given the pearls are underwater.

Right here is the reason it's so difficult and maybe irrelevant to attach a review to a game like this. One person's limited collect-a-thon is another's succession of moment-to-moment mini adventures.

This.  I'm an explorer, not a grinder.  I just get bored - even with that little loop I had going with the glowing orbs, I only did it for a few minutes.  I know I could have made millions from gold and emeralil alone and got my dream ship, but I prefer to just glide across the surface of a new planet and see what's out there, cursing the absence of aluminium and omegon at present (got my heart set on jet pack and grenade upgrades).

@The Bag no there isn't - you need to scrap something first.

Finally figured out to link my GoG game to the steam overlay to get screenshots...

I like how forested the planet I landed on is, but I do miss those giant trees from the original trailers.  Perhaps I've just not run into any yet?

During the day, the atmosphere looks like it's in constant sunset mode.. I forgot to take screenshots at night.  I wonder if anyone has run into super bioluminescent worlds yet?

Ran into one of these pod things and wouldn't you know it, they give you free suit slots.  Well the first one I got was free, the next one was 10,000 units.

There were tons of "Pride Rock" Lion King type hills.  You could kinda see one in the distance, and I stood on one to take that last image.

The game runs alright on PC after you play it for like an hour or so the first time it seems. I think it must need to build a shader cache.  Hopefully they fix that issue.  Still a bit stuttery doing certain things.

My main concern is that the internal render resolution doesn't look native, as if the image is around 900p and being upscaled to my 1080p monitor.  Similar to how quantum break did in the windows store, until they gave you the option to disable that.  So it looks a bit blurry..

Last night's plan was to mop up a few ruins, visit the beacon and get a bit closer to a hyperdrive and atlas stuff. 3 hours later, I only stopped playing (having not left the planet) because it crashed when my pad ran out of power and I plugged in a USB cable to carry on.

Anyway, just before arriving at the last ruin (and the HUD needs a much better way of marking what you've already visited, incidentally), I spotted a gold mound on my descent. I've been mining for ages at this point so am properly in two minds. It's right next to the ruin so I think sod it, one last gold before I make some mission progress. It's at this point I realize it's the biggest ore deposit I've ever seen. Hard to judge time, but I'm pretty sure I spent a good 30 minutes mining this damn thing. In the middle was this core which I couldn't seem to mine, any ideas why? Recorded a video of it:

It looked like an apple core once I was done, you can see the outline from bits I've missed:

Netted me 1500 gold, though! But tonight, I really have to leave this damn planet and make a bit of progress. Getting tired of passing up all these locked Atlas doors.

My current multitool has a number of scanning & mining upgrades & although it has a pulse grenade launcher, I only added that to help get past obstacles.  It's definitely not meant for combat, which meant that when some sentinels took offence to me mining a rock (I usually do that when they're not around, but these 2 caught me unawares) I was pretty much unable to fight back & just ran away down a steep hill where they lost me pretty quickly.

Is combat something I should be preparing for though? I try not to pick fights, but if stuff is gonna aggro me, especially as I get further into the game, perhaps I should be prepared.

When I was mining that gold, I was twice attacked by a T-Rex with a triceratops head. Really fast, had trouble out running them. Luckily, the tool I happened upon had decent fire power and melted them.

So yeah, you can definitely pickup aggro while going about your business.

You'll need nades and lazors for certain doors. Drones will leave you alone initially but may attack if your mining and you cross their path (they're usually in red rather then green).

If you park close by you can run back to your ship and hide in the cockpit. Dunno if it resets them but i did that and accidentally blasted off.

Incidentally I managed to get myself sorted with the blueprint for Antimatter. I made it with other stuff then managed to get back to the start system again and carried on with the missions.

If you perform a melee attack just before you do a boost with your jetpack, you'll go flying forward instead of upward. Excellent way to get around when you master it.

My current tool says feature not available or something, when I hit melee. My original tool didn't, very odd! I never know what's a bug and what's a feature.

Maybe some guns just can't be used to melee? That's a bit silly though..

Found a shitty miserable planet that was -100c all the time until storms hit every single few minutes and dropped the temp to -140c. Baltic. Miserable. Depressing.

I named it Glasgow :) cause I loved it there. It was a challenge to do any mining and as there were so many trees it was hard to find buildings etc.

The game is so much fun but I'll be damned if I can find anywhere to allow me to sell anything!! I have about 600k of emeril and nowhere to sell it. So annoying.

@Gorf King I've never seen those alien pods on any planet yet. They worth a lot?

Awesome post Gorf.

See, this is the thing with this game - you could look at those clips and think "Harumph! That walker had clearly got stuck on that cliff edge, and that is soooo lame that nothing came to attack you at wanted level 5, and oh my lol look at those creature designs - this game sucks, 3/10".

Or, you could look at that silhouetted bipedal automaton and be reminded of The Tripods, and Star Wars of course, and think "Man, that is so cool!" and then that little burst of Synth kicks in just as you kill it, and you get goosebumps. Then you hear the bleatings of that baby cow alien and think "Awwww! Why'd you do it Gorf? Why?!"

I think you all know which camp I'm in.

I just can't get into this. Every planet is just... boring. Space is... boring. The buildings are all tiny things dotted around differently-shaded lumps of rock. It's literally depressing to play.

Now if there were planets full of cities, and amazing gunplay, and NO FUCKING SENTINEL things... yeah, I'd be more inclined to play it.

It's just so empty and, oddly, lifeless.
