No Man's Sky - Beyond update inc. VR out now

The procedural naming does throw up some oddities, I visited a planet called Dewsbury the other day. By coincidence it too was a hellish pit of despair populated by shambling and forsaken denizens, each one more horrifying than the next.

I chased a fugitive into planetary atmosphere recently - I wiped out his health bar and his ship disappeared into the clouds below me in flames, then.. nothing. No drops, no rewards, no wreckage... just gone.

Awesome screens, awesome new ship @robdood

Regarding the pods, you get one of those at every Space Station you visit. So once you start system hopping you may find it less hassle than searching for and repairing Drop Pods on planet surfaces.

BTW, the underwater biomes were massively overhauled in the Abyss update, so yes - they are better than you remember. It's one of many areas of the game that I really want to get into, if I ever get a single second of my life spare!

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere - where are they?  I've looked and can't seem to find them!

In the left hand side area (as you enter the hangar bay), there are the four upgrade sellers - the one that sells exosuit upgrades sits in front of a cylindrical device - when you step closer to it the exosuit upgrade appears in the cylinder and can be purchased with units.

Bad - all my discoveries have been wiped from my ui because of a multiplayer bug.

Good - all the stations have reset the exosuit slot machines so I don't have to jump to new stations to buy more slots.

Also, decided to get in appropriate dress since I've technically made this journey before..

Haven't played for a while, but the other night while absolutely hammered at 4am I was showing some mates NMS.   I lost it when I landed on this planet.   This was the second one like this in the 20 minutes we plalyed.   WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.

Yeah there's some wonderful and ludicrous worlds. I like finding the decorations you can put around your base.

I spent a good 4 hours on it yesterday, just fucking about looking for freighters and mopping up story quests. It makes wonderful hangover gaming.

Where can I find Cadmium? I need some for Atlas Pass v2. I installed a Cadmium drive and warped to a Cadmium system, thinking it was fairly likely that I would find some there. The planets all have Activated Cadmium resources, but that stuff isn't recognised by the recipe. The portable refiner will only make it into chromatic metal (which I can easily get from copper).

Is it mined from asteroids in Cadmium systems? I spent a little while blasting but just got the usual junk minerals.

Quick screenshot dump.  I've done loads of vagabondage since last time.  Can't remember everything, but by golly I love just seeing new stuff.

Before I get into it though, I do kinda wish the galaxy was more sparse.  Finding life, whether on a planet or by the presence of a space station, would be waaaaay more impactful for me if it was a once in a blue moon thing.  I also wish it was a bit harder to get materials to aid exploring, making you spend more time trapsing around planets for resources to be able to fly between planets/star systems.

ANYWAY.

Love my freighter - was a bit confused though, saved another and although it offered me the chance to purchase it (couldn't afford), it still joined my fleet.. wtf?  Need to do more playing around to figure it out.

Landed on a toxic planet with these frankly ludicrous flying beasties - their wings were TINY.

This was the first CACTUSPLANET I found.  I love these!! I wanted some wild west music while exploring.

Supermanning around a moon for Gravatino balls, made about a million credits - escaping sentinels on foot sooooo easy in low gravity :D

What the fuck is up with all these lovely lush planets I find, and scalding / boiling rain? :( I want a nice lush planet to call home!

Space

I love the planets that have weird geometric patterns in the landscape, proper spooky alien amazingness

Did a bunch of missions at the nexus after figuring out how it worked (stocked up on about 50 wiring looms as rewards! yaaaay), some of the planets I was taken to looked amazing!! This place with giant flower things was immense.

Finally started progressing the Atlas path.  This part of the game would feel so much more important if up until this point I'd met no other lifeforms.   Still, it looks immense.

Found a 'nuclear' planet, had no idea what that meant.  Still don't.  Landed right by a drop pod.  The sentinels here were frenzied, which meant lots of benny hill action as I refined materials etc :D

This 'glitched' planet was mindblowing!! Crazy structures and weird life forms made out of the weird metal crystals.  Love it.

OMGOMGOMG I FOUND ONE.

My frames per second was about 10 though, so I didn't even explore.  So annoying! :(

Final stop off of recent sessions was this pretty glacial planet.  Half of it was ocean, took me a while to find land.  But it's a bit like Jurassic Park!  Tons of life and decent enough weather.

20191012114020_1.thumb.jpg.931746dbdf2c311ed4f1941f2ccc43ee.jpg

Think I'm gonna set up a base here and try out my exo craft, now I've bought the building bits for them!! :D

THIS GAME

You know that feeling?  The feeling where you're like 'Right fuck it, lets just stop wasting time and just jump as far as I can before setlting into some exploring'?

Yeah, well the first planet I found:

Had some fun starting permadeath mode tonight.  first three attempts were super punishing!!  A bad first planet can kill you.  As can overeager rocketjumps. :D

In the end I just spent 20 mins in Creative mode as, seeing the impressive structures above, I wanna make sure I know which bits to prioritise buying, and what looks nice together, before I do it for real!! :D

Had a rough time of it yesterday doing the Quicksilver missions. Was sent to an Extreme planet to break into a base, then had to kill some sentinels to get some robot goo and got killed before getting the required amount. Went back to my grave but all the sentinels has gone. Put down a save point and went off in search of more sentinels to kill. Got goo and was sent to destroy a refinery. There was a hell storm raging, but I managed to get the job done and legged it in the Condor with Sentinel Ships in hot pursuit, brought up the Nexus and docked. Job done.

However, when I got out of my ship there was a crunchy sound and my body fell to the floor. Couldn't move but could get back into my ship. Flew to some other locations but same thing. Reloaded and got the death screen saying I’d been killed by Sentinels attack ships. Fair enough I thought since I’d run from the fight it did feel a bit jammy that I’d escaped them. Went to find my grave but it was not there, just a glowing pod containing all my stuff floating in space that I couldn’t retrieve.

Thankfully i could reload before the mission so got all my stuff back, decided no amount of Quicksilver was worth this. Was more annoyed about losing all the storm crystals I’d picked up - stupid broken game grumble!
