This here would take a chunk out of someone’s mortgage nowadays.

I believe I had Cotton and Evolution off you from that lot, swapped them for a mega cd and a couple of games with a mate, in hindsight that was a poor move on my part :(

I think everyone who previously owned clamshells is feeling some serious regret! I  decided to move to cart only, then shifted some of those a couple of years ago when I got a flash cart. Even some cart only stuff is pretty bloody valuable now. Nothing that I kept is.

Managed to get Dark Arms unboxed off eBay the other day for just under £7 with the postage, picked up a console bundle on Friday and there was a pocket in there, needed something other than Metal Slug 2nd mission to play on it for a bit, really need to consider doing a screen swap on it though, it's a fantastic handhel but in serious need of a backlight for sure.

I bought one on launch in the UK and liked it in general, the ergonomics were pretty good and the games were a step up from previous gen stuff (Sonic reminded me of the Master System versions which are still my favourites). It didn't get much of a look in when I got my GBA, so of course I sold all the games for peanuts and I think I chucked the console in the bin when they were not worth the bother of posting to people.

Nice. I've only got two out of those pictured :(

I've got an ancient flash card for mine but it's so old it requires a parallel port to put anything on it.

So after a bit of an eBay splurge I have three consoles. I’ve decided which I want to keep so I have two to move on (probably at a loss).

first up is a nice condition blue console. Bought from @Treble last year. No major marks on the screen and has both battery doors. Fresh save battery installed. The other is a anthracite (black carbon effect) machine which doesn’t have a main battery door. Some marks on screen but perfectly playable. Looking for around £50 each. I’ll be putting them in trading later but first dibs for the retro folder folk.

I loved the NGPC and had a handful of consoles and a pretty much complete Clamshell collection. Still remember the excitement and anticipation of going into HMV Oxford Street to buy it on launch day.

Sold everything off about a decade ago for not very much. One of my biggest gaming regrets. Not so much for the money (OK, that hurts a bit), but I would really like to be able to fire it up every now and again and bask in the nostalgia. Emulation just doesn't cut it for the NGPC somehow.

So many classics in such a limited portfolio of games. Faselei, Metal Slug1/2 and Neo Turf Masters. And Card Fighters Clash is one of the best games ever made full stop.

I would say to try to get a frontlit unit if you can get one, then a flash cart for the games. The initial outlay might end up being around £200 I guess, but you don’t need to buy anything else. Nothing beats the original hardware.

If you buy a used unit it’s worth knowing you can buy replacement lenses easily and cheaply now. I stuck a glass lens on one of mine.

I’m keeping an eye out for a reasonable priced clamshell boxed turf masters to replace my cart only copy.

I will have a couple of unboxed consoles I’ll be putting in trading shortly once I decide which anthracite machine to keep.

latest pickups. Shodown 2 boxed and compete was bundled with an Anthracite unboxed console and NTF came today. No manual but boxed for £30 I can accept that. Nobody reads the manual anyway.

I’m thinking of selling my neo geo pocket collection. I’ve got some good stuff too.

evo and cotton (sadly, loose carts but 100% original)

most of the classics like Capcom vs snk, gals fighters, last blade, samurai showdown, sonic and both metal slug games

Good grief that physical collection is a lovely thing. This is a system that totally passed me by, not just at the time but even during something like two decades of wanton retro emulation, until I got the NGPC Selection Vol 1 for Switch last week. The dozen or so games on it each have 3D models of the packaging you can rotate and play with and it’s all utterly adorable and it’s a measure of how good the games are that on a system where I can play the full-fat versions I’m still getting hours of enjoyment already from vastly cut down takes on Turf Masters and Metal Slug especially. A few too many fighters and I wish it had included Sonic and Card Fighters because I’m keen on those, but it’s a sound introduction nevertheless.

My new found love for the system is tempered only by the prices of collecting for it now :(
