Shenmue III - PS4/PC | Out Now!

Licensing being a sticking point was mentioned in the video. I'm surprised there is enough material for them to do a weekly web show honestly, even if it looks fairly cheap to do.

Then again, they supposedly had a port of Arcadia in development at one point, got killed. Some Euro dev even developed an interesting cheap port solution which they pitched, got rejected.

I finally got around to trying the Jet Set Radio port recently, that game has not aged visually what so ever, bloody gorgeous. Art does trump tech over the long run, not bad for what is essentially a mobile phone level game.

Excuse has always been because it wouldn't bring in much cash but there will never be a better time to bring out a HD remaster than at the point of release for the 3rd game.

Not if the idea was to drive sales of the 3rd game. We all wear our rosey specs to reminisce about Shenmue but a modern audience would probably give it as long as it takes to find the kitten in the box and put COD back on laughing to themselves about how shit games were before they came along.

Mobile phone level game?

The Dreamcast hardware is basically alive and well in mobile phones, PowerVR and a low-clocked RISC chip, it might aswell be a proto-Iphone they developed it on.

Hello Everyone,

We are at the one year anniversary from the day you all stood up and made Shenmue III a reality. So to mark the occasion, Yu-san wanted to take this opportunity to look back at the project thus far.

VIDEO HERE -> https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3/posts/1616380

Thank you all for wonderful first year!

Survey Outlook

We have been receiving a lot questions about surveys lately, so here is where we stand now.

Surveys have NOT been sent. A date for the surveys has not been decided, and is still a ways off.

Because this is such an important part of the backer process, an official announcement will made on the Kickstarter Update page and in the news section on shenmue.link. The announcement will also be posted on Twitter at @Shenmue_3, so be sure to follow us!

On the survey, you will confirm all of your reward details (platform choice, T-shirt size, etc.) and shipping information. Please look ahead to coming updates for more information!

The scope and dev time are tied to the amount of money they have. People praise publishers for delaying games to polish them, but somebody had to pay for all that cost overrun, so I doubt they could delay for 2 years worth of overtime even if they wanted to, as they'd have run out of money*

* Unless the conspiracy theories about certain companies secretly paying for it all in the first place were actually true and the entire Kickstarter was just an elaborate marketing ploy of course ;)

There's also no way of knowing if that storyboard footage wasn't in the first few weeks after the kickstarter. Or yesterday of course.

I'm hopeful that they are a bit further along than that though but who knows, they could be still thinking of how to shoehorn a hunt for construction workers, cops, cowboys, army men and red indians to modernise the sailor hunt for a new generation.

You know how I said I was glad to be living in a parallel universe because that's the only plausible explanation for why this is being made? Well certain other recent events have put that into perspective and I'm not so sure anymore and I was wondering if it might be best to switch universes again.

Although, I mean if that meant losing Shenmue 3 then, well, on balance...

You know how towards the end of the run of any show they get desperate, go for most outlandish plots and the characters turn into basically parodies of their season 1 selves?

We're living it aren't we?  I only worry we're about to get cancelled.

Somebody went and redid the Shenmue: The Movie that came with the Xbox version, remastered in 1080p and widescreen via the wonder that is DEmul, he even added in a load of extra scenes that were cut from that official version, this is over 3 times the length!:

It does have some graphical glitches as a result of the forced widescreen, as that stuff was never meant to be seen by the enduser.

Game Development

R&D for various game elements is on course as the development team shifts its focus towards production. Main game scenarios are nearing completion, motion capture tests are well under way, and voicing tests with the cast have begun. Yu-san and the production staff are happy to say they are enjoying the work as they continue to diligently make progress on the mini-games, events, and battles.

“I have been absorbed in developing the game and I stay in the studio all night time to time. My life is all about Shenmue day and night.”-Yu Suzuki

I admittedly am negligent in following this, though I should be. So it's likely to take more time doing prep than full production, if they are still hoping to meet their self-imposed 2017 release.

It's gonna slip to 2018 if they're still doing prep.   Maybe they should split it up into episodes.
