I've just tried my French team out, there's a reason Laborde is only 35k with those stats, he's dog shit. I'm not too impressed with Alessandrini either, so I'm going to try RB Bamba and TOGS Nkunku instead.

 

Has anyone tried Prime Pires yet? His stats look good, but at 6'2 he might just give me the same grief Laborde has.

I wasn't impressed with TOTGS Nkunku.  It doesn't feel like a good position for him, although he's probably ok if you move him.  Laborde isn't entirely terrible, but the price doesn't lie for his effectiveness.  I'm afraid you might need Mbappe if you want a worthy french forward.

RB Bamba is not a good finisher. Go icon if your struggling, mid Larsson has been insane for me.

I don't need Bamba to finish, most of my goalscoring will be through Fekir and Benzema who are both great at it. I got a game in with Bamba and Nkunku, Bamba felt great but unfortunately it was a rage quit after 15 minutes, and Nkunku didn't get a touch so I haven't been able to assess him yet. If Nkunku doesn't work out, I'll try Coman TOTW, I loved his gold card at the start of the season so I know there's an acceptable baseline there.

After a week of Mbappe, I would say that those lucky enough to have done the Benzema SBC have a very similar player in terms of movement and finishing ability. With Mbappe you're paying for 5* skills and extreme dribbling ability. Not to say Benzema is bad on the ball, but there's not as much difference as you might think.

 

I also don't like Nkunku, and I think a lot of it is down to his medium/medium work rates, which always seems to be an issue with anyone I try - they just don't get as involved as players with high/high, high/medium or medium/high.

Whats the deal with TOTY players then? I’ve never been in a position to purchase or get involved in whatever it takes to acquire them before but feel I could give it a go this year if my connection sorta itself. Are they just ridiculously priced super soldiers that drop 0.0000000087% of the time in packs?

I had an untradeable TOTY Kante a couple of years ago, he was fucking crazy. I played him at CAM to get him on the ball and pushing forward at every opportunity, he'd have been wasted anywhere else. At this stage of the game, you could feasibly play any of them anywhere on the pitch and they'd feel like a cheat code.

Basically except with lower drop rates.

 

TOTY card stay ahead of the curve right through TOTS in a lot of cases so yeah they are rarer than pixie gold dust.

But I’ve seen a lot of you guys ending up with starting 11s made up almost entirely if not completely of TOTY / TOTS players. How the fuck do you get to that stage? Just constant grinding in WL for rewards? I played my first and most likely my last WL over the weekend there and it was not fun at all. A combination of poor connections and awful, wanky gameplay put me right off it. Plus my ‘rewards’ were hilarious!

 

I mean I’m happy to play with Prime Larsson up top now until FIFA23 but I’m open to constantly upgrading everything around him 🙂

Towards the end of a cycle EA absolutely throw cards at you to keep you playing. This culminated in a 85+x10 SBC last year which was infinitely repeatable, and allowed anyone with a bit of time to get PIM Gullit, Viera and R9. Everyone had super-teams.

Mid larsson is so good with finisher on him. He just gets in the right places all the time.

I haven’t bought a single pack. I landed some decent pulls from SBC packs during the first month or so when prices for base cards were strong and have then been quite careful with who I buy and not changing things about too much.

 

Are you using 87 Larsson? His 86 card has always been and still is better, hence it being slightly more expansive so you should grab that if you can. About 20k should make up the difference if you sell the 87.

Bought my first icon. Prime Rush. I think he’s the only icon with any minutes for Sheffield United. Even then, it was an incredibly short, ineffective stint when he was past his best. He seemed reasonable when I used him in a draft, though, so I’ll see how he gets on.

Been back on icon swaps today, completed the Ligue 1 objectives token with little fuss, only one opponent kept playing after I took the lead but just needed to score thankfully. Set my tactics to constant pressure which can prevent kick off goals but did result in losing a number of games, still, golden goal makes it not too annoying. 
 

Cant say I’m looking forward to the championship squad battles on world class, my club is severely lacking in players from there.

Although I would say my Prem team is the weakest, I found it easier than doing the Ligue 1 one.  I think that just says more about the randomness of opponent quality, though.  One guy didn't quit and I beat him 3-0.  No idea what the point of that was.  Some people immediately quit if they don't like the look of your team, too.

 

I'm just doing the easiest teams on squad battles with my silver, first owned Championship team.  The harder opponents get the POR1 or Italian team.  I'll just skip most opponents over 83 rated with high chem.  Can't be arsed to risk losing.

I can get up to 10 tokens with what I had left from the first lot so best I can get is a mid icon so will go for that or maybe base/mid plus the 81+ x 25

Apologies for the constant spamming of team screenshots, but this is where I've landed for now. I was focussed too much on that France flag, and trying to force a French RW into the team instead of just getting Messi. He's still incredible, he plays in my central CAM role now with Fekir going to the right CAM, and the team is much better for it. Verratti is a monster as well, it didn't make sense to not have him in either. I think the aim now is to carry on with this until I can afford either Neymar or the Champions League Vinicius Jr, I could go for the 85 Vinicius Jr or Winter Hazard now but I've already wasted a lot of coins on EA tax, it doesn't make sense to waste more on an interim player when Bamba is doing a job already. Then it's saving for Mbappe, who will likely be blown out of the water by TOTS cards by the time I can afford him.

 

For Icon swaps, I'm no longer after Rooney, so I'll be doing the Base, Mid or Prime player pick pack for 17 tokens. There's an argument for doing Ferdinand or Desailly, but honestly, I don't think they're any improvement on what I have already. Can't wait for my base Deco!

I have the best team I have ever had at this stage.  I have 2.5 million, mbappe and inform neymar but I'm just not feeling any enthusiasm to play it. There's a question around is there just too much power creep this year?  In previous years people would use son, rashford etc long into the new year but this year its seldom you see a gold player other than mbappe and it's just get the quickest player possible.  As much as objective players are nice none will ever make my side.   Maybe I've just burnt myself out.

Socrates from the last icon pack and Kaka from the current one, but it used pretty much everything i had to do, I've now got them both playing as strikers, Socrates is like Eusebio, either foot is a hammer and Kaka is very nice to use.

I'm not getting along with Mid Kaka at all. Playing as CM "get forward" no defensive requirements lol. 

 

Just doesn't do it for me. Courtino and Hazard WW far more effective.

I had mid Socrates in fifa 18 or 19, he was a game changer at the time, could finish pretty much anything.

I'm on PC so can only speak for there but there is a patch out.  I don't know if it's due to the patch but the lag is straight ridiculous just now.  It' averaging 80ms and spiking to 200ms plus.  patch supposedly mainly fixes.  what i will say is that i have played 3 games.  it's been 2-2, 4-4 and then 7-3 so a fair few goals scored in div 1.
