Those icon challenges seem pretty impossible for a newer player. Is there any other way to get the icon cards other than buying them on the market?

You can pack icons, or complete the icon swaps challenges. There will be a new batch of icon swaps in season 3, probably over 2 seasons like the first batch. There is a feeling they will be mid icons as base icons are going out of packs at the end of season 2.

I just bought NIF De Bruyne for 199k. We'll see how this post ages but I can see him being up to 300k on Friday, even with Black Friday. If you are after high rated meta players (Kante, KDB, Reus, Aubameyang, Hazard etc.) I think today is a good day to buy.

 

My hybrid team looks like this now. Will probably switch to 4-2-3-1 narrow in game as I've been using tactics cribbed from here as I transition away from 3/5atb:

It's been fine on PC.....until the last couple of nights.    Last night I had 3 treacle games out of about 12, but doing the 'play at home' trick seems to help a bit.  But that might just be a  placebo.

The game's a shocking mess right now. I've never played any other game where simple controls won't work. In Battlefield, if I press the trigger, my gun shoots. Skyrim, I press X and the character jumps.

In this? I press pass... and maybe the player will, maybe the player won't. 

Delay, servers, whatever, they have to sort it out. I live in my own (no-one else using the internet), I've got a 150mb fibre connection. It's clearly not at my end.

Is it home or away games? Or same lag for all the games?

I've noticed no difference between the two. I rarely play home games though, 4 games out of 5 I'm away.

It shouldn't be an issue though, it's all hosted on EA servers.

The pass lag is noticeable so much I can’t get quick one twos off a lot of the time.

@Timmo  Socrates is a loan player so only got 3 games, he was literally just in there for someone decent to come on if necessary.

14-2 with that is very impressive! I finished on 19, couple of disconnects which was very annoying, one when I was winning 1-0 on 80 minutes.

My very first game was a disconnect, but it wasnt with that team, that's why i sold everybody and decided to play with crap until the market properly crashes, I'm sat on 3.1mil now.

So i've started on the icon single player missions, put together a cheap turkish league team and won my first two matches. It's a nice change using different players. Properly hooked now.

Once i've built up a decent team i'll head online properly.

One more icon swap to do and then my team will be this, which starts 4231 in game. Not bad for November. For sure resisting sbc's this year as it stole my coins all too readily last year. Only weakness is Griezman whos in cos i dont have Mbappe yet,  who hits the post with 90% of shots which drives me insane. No more packs being opened now til toty.

You liking Keane? I love him. Also had Nesta for about 30 games now. Took me maybe 3 games to get used to him and he's been brilliant ever since. Shadow on both.

No one is buying any cheap golds at all. Can’t get them shifted now. Prob waiting for Black Friday. 

I’m on 420k anyway and got special Vardy up top  to start my new team.

I'm properly fed up of grinding out squad battles already, and I'm only on 4 wins with the championship team and 3 with the Mexicans. The championship one is a ball ache, every game seems like it's going ok until the AI seems to just flick a switch, and suddenly I can't get a fucking touch of the ball. I'll get my Roy Keane though, I've come too far now.

Yes, 82 rated and below are basically at minimum value. 83+ particularly 85+ are still inflated. The lower rated players may increase with any low overall requirement SBCs that come out, another one like Vardy POTM will do it.

 

On the SBC point, I did 14 of the Bundesliga SBCs (had already done Bayern) and a few MLS/Ligue 1/Liga NOS too. Got absolutely nothing in any of the packs.

 

De Bruyne has 3G 6A in 6 games since I bought him and I've gone unbeaten and been promoted... only back to div 8 but still. He's just always in the right place and his passing is incredible, the only player I've really noticed such a difference with.

Yep agree. He is superb and would say 100% addition if you have Prem squad.

Just bought base John Barnes. I was watching him last night and he was hovering around 480k, got him this morning for 455k. I can't wait to play with him, but he might work out as a good investment as well. As @Swallow said up thread, with a load of coins being pushed into the market this weekend, high rated meta players are probably a good bet - I haven't got the coins for the likes of Messi and Neymar though, and I've little interest in using players like De Bruyne and Kante. I think icons might see a boost as well. In addition to this, base icons won't be in packs much longer - I've got a feeling that they will all get a little more valuable as they slowly disappear from the market, but especially the ones in different positions to their other versions. Blanc is nailed on to see a price increase I think, but hopefully Barnes will follow suit too.

Champions League SBCs should drop tonight. With the Real v PSG game being the pick of the bunch if you can buy LA Liga players who are near 80 for minimum value it should come good! But most throw away golds will probably increase over the next few days because of it. 

 

So Champ League SBC tonight, tomorrow then Marquee Match ups on Thursday, normal service for the pants method will resume!

I don't think there is much value in the league SBCs this year, I haven't dug in enough of the detail to get a full grip on it, but last year the value of the packs for alot of the teams far outweighed the cost of doing the SBC, I don't think that's the case this year, most of the packs are crap. Some are worth doing if you just want the packs but the vast majority of them are trash!
