I'm still finding this infinitely more playable than FIFA 18, which was simply set up for the really really good players to exploit the cheap goals.  That game made me want to throw the controller, this one doesn't.

 

And to be fair (and not to be read as a rant either, these are genuine postulations)...

 

1. But why did it run away from my player? He's as free as he's ever going to be in the box, no pressure on him. I'm not holding sprint, I'm not hammering the left stick up.

Is there a control I should be pressing to ensure he doesn't do this? Because if there is, it's not listed anywhere - not in the game, not in any manual I've seen, not on any list of official controls.
If that's a RNG thing - yeah that can fuck off. RNG deciding a game is bullshit game design - and also something that EA haven't said/confirmed is in the game. So now I'm just guessing as to why when I've done everything seemimgly correctly to be leading this game, I'm now losing. (Not to mention that players reach for balls that get away from them so why didn't he do it here?)

That's a rubbish game.

 

2. Let's say there wasn't a header to win. So then the control scheme is bad. Because I've held the header button and pushed the direction I want the header to go - which is what you have to do off of goal kicks, and what everyone does from all goal kicks. But because the game has decided that there's no header to win, that means my CB is running forward, allowing his striker a run in on goal.

Again, I'm doing everything that the game tells me is correct, but I'm being punished.

See, I disagree. There isn't any other game I've played where I don't feel in control. If I lose at Battlefield, or at Rocket League, or at MarioKart, or at Tekken, I know why. 

Mainly because the other player was better. Or in the times they weren't, at least I've always known that I controlled my own character.

 

I can't even come close to saying the same about Fifa.

If I've played it solid for 11 weeks since launch, and I have no idea why I lose or how to improve, or even how to actually enjoy the thing, then that's bad game design.

Come and have some friendly matches with me and let's have a mess about and see what the issues are. There are frustrating elements for sure. Most of the time I lose due to deflections or fucking up chances!

 

I'm building a better team though so see if that helps. I don't really think the new division systems truly works either.

I’ve made a couple of setups, which keep my all Brazilian defence. Going to see how this goes. 

 

I’m hoping that this team gets Lukaku working better, he’s good but the fairly crap agility and balance stats mean he feels much slower than his pace stats indicate.

Seriously, Higuain is better.  Give him a try, stick a finisher on him and he can score from anywhere.  He'll only cost you 30k and he'll have full chem!

Nope, I didn't say that. FIFA 18 had the cheapest of cheap goals since, well, FIFA 17. This to me doesn't have the usual really cheap goals.

 

I rarely get annoyed with this as I did the last 2. The changing player is still broken though.

What's RNG?

 

1. It ran away because it was a shit 'chest', perhaps he's shit at chesting?;)

2. So you've pushed towards the ball and pressed header? So, yes, annoying as fuck he hasn't jumped, he should. The game has decided that the only input it is going to accept is the run forward, he should jump as well, but the result would have been the same.  I'd of been more pissed off if my player did nothing I'd asked him to do.

 

Anyhow, it's personal preference whether you like a game or not, and it feels less polished to me than 18, but somehow I find it infinitely more playable and enjoyable.

On the ball it’s dogshit, far less responsive to dribbling 75% of the time, and full of cheap goals, timed finesse shots from outside the box are as cheap as it gets.

 

Infuriating when I like to dribble and play 1-2’s in and around the box only for 1v1’s to be so inaccurate.

 

its a shit game.

I swear the packs are on like a rotation.

 

I packed 88 Litmanen earlier and its funny how his price has gone from 750k down to 698k since I did.

 

I reckon player at certain times get put in packs and so a then people pack him and market prices thus drop.

Its ok, packed Kante last night, complaining over.

 

Only managed Silver 1, lost all but 2 games by 1 goal and that was either stupid game mechanics or just bad luck.

 

Really not worth the agro.

 

Unless I pack 90 Salah on Thursday.

RNG = Random Number Generator.

Fifa uses it all over the place - eg they confirmed they use it in their new '50/50' tackles system. You go in for a tackle, the game looks at the stats and randomly generates a number to decide whether or not the tackle is successful.

In theory that's great for a football game, not every tackle in real life is successful, even for someone like Vincent Kompany.

However in game, it leads to situations that many of us had in the earlier lifespan of the game where you can tackle your opponent 6 times in one attack and still concede because the RNG has gone against you. So the game feels unfair.
