In last seasons Football Manager my last game was with a Man Utd team and at the start of my second season Pogba wanted to leave. I tried everything to get him to stay. Ridiculous contract, captaincy, all the bonuses the contract system would allow but he had his heart set on a move to Real Madrid. Who could blame him, Zidane had plans for him and you dont say no to Zidane. This left me with a monumental gap in my midfield and there was no way the answer was going to come from my current squad so I embarked on the most detailed and thorough scouting process Sports Interactive had ever seen.

 

I charged all my scouts with finding a midfielder to replace Pogba, I cancelled all my early pre season friendlies so there was no distractions, I spoke to every player about recommendations and still came up short. Then it happened. I attended a friendly between PSG and Schalke with my reason being a final assessment of Verratti. Sure his asking price was fucking ridiculous and he was the same height as my wifes wellies but my scouts assured me he ticked all the boxes. This had to be the one. 5 minutes into the game Schalke go a goal up, a neat finish from some striker after an incredible run and pass from a young midfielder. I thought nothing of it. After that PSG have all the pressure but can't make the break through. A name keeps popping up in the commentary. 'Goretzka makes the interception'... 'Goretzka wins the ball'... 'Goretzka retains possession'. Who the fuck is Goretzka?!! Just before half time Schalke 2-0. 25 yarder. LEON GORETZKA.

 

Verratti finished the half with a 6.4 rating. Goretzka was on 7.7 and clearly running the show. The game finished 3-1 to Schalke, Goretzka grabbed another assist before coming off in the 70th minute. Verratti got injured after 56 minutes while challenging, yes you guessed it, LEON GORETZKA for the ball. A perfectly clean challenge the ref decided but Goretzka was just far too powerful for the teeny tiny Italian. I went straight into Goretzka profile and ended up signing him for a reasonable £45m plus add-ons. 3 seasons later he was absolute centre of everything I done at Man Utd. He led the team to 3 league titles, 2 Champions League and 1 Super Cup as well as 1 FA, 2 league and 2 Charity Shield cups. Goretzka literally saved Man Utd from its second footballing recession in the space of 5 years. He was my dream player in last seasons FM so when his FIFA18 stats came out and showed he was set to continue what he started at Man Utd I knew I had to have him in my team :) he was the reason I started with a German squad and I absolutely love him in my midfield. Factor in that he is also 6ft 2in with that pace and he really is a fantastic player.

 

So yeah, there may be a hint of sentimentality about me keeping him in when it would be easier to swap him out but I love him. Plus, look what I just put the finishing touches to...

Only thing left now is to purchase a Hunter card for Lacazette and I expect this team to last me for a long time!

I’m hoping for a Martial TOTW at some point. An Ousmane Dembele one would be nice too but there’s no chance of that considering he’s out injured for the long term

 

also, how do I get Pogba (who I haven’t bought yet) into the same midfield as Vidal?

Mate I got Sarabia as my best pull.

 

fair enough I played 98 games, but I was 4 wins off gold 1 monthly, I should get rewarded adequately for such a high win ratio.

 

ive said it already but I’m done with the WL now, literally no point unless you’re good enough to qualify for regionals

My first game in division 4 is a close affair at 2-2 late on when this happens. They must have bribed the linesman coz Son is clearly interfering with play by standing in front of the keeper. (I know, I should have defended better to stop the chance in the first place ;))

So annoyed right now. 4 games left on Squad Battles, and I was only 4000 points of Elite 2 (would’ve been my first time at that rank). 2 disconnects from EA servers whilst winning in the 2nd half, and then I was winning 1-0 on Legendary, and my keeper gives away a pen off the ball. Arse. 1-1 and extra time. Lose on penalty shoot out. Not playing the last game now. No point, as I can’t get 3.5k in 1 game

I had a few games yesterday post patch and there were some right dodgy refereeing decisions around penalties.  one in my favour, two in the opositions.  thought the patch was to improve penalty decisions?  

 

I think they have given up doing anything and just release patch notes as a social experiment.

@LiMuBai dramatic comebacks sure are satisfying! I had one yesterday when I was 6-4 down on 86 mins, got it back to 6-6 with the last kick of the ball. Proceeded to stick 4 in during extra time (weekend league qualifier) and it would have been 11 goals if they hadn’t rage quit in the 119th minute with a shot almost over the line. 

 

Suffice to say, I lost in the semi finals :mellow:

I always lose in the semi finals.

 

How does matchmaking work in FUT? Do you play other people at the same stage of the daily knockout? Or just whoever is on at the time? Does online seasons only ever pair you with teams in the same division?
