I've actually started a replay of UC1, as part of the Nathan Drake collection.

It's pretty compelling blasting through the entire series all on PS4.

I never really enjoyed the first UC1 - well until the later half of the game when things went supernatural. I jut found the controls very iffy, died far too many times on stupid jumps. However, it was a good starting point as UC2 is quality.

tbf, UC1 isn't actually supernatural, by the dictionary definition.

It's just a

Spoiler

very old, very powerful, airborne mutagen.

Like how the Genies of UC3 are

Spoiler

actually a hallucinogen in the water.

Fuck knows what's going  on in UC2 though.

The supernatural stuff felt a bit silly to me. I've always felt a disconnect from protagonists with superhuman athletic prowess, but Drake versus zombies felt like a shark jump, even within a single game. I will try LL though, despite my profuse tutting as Nadia physically bested 2 men who can launch their own frames 20 feet up a cliff ledge.

The only one I’ve had difficulty in replaying over and over again is the third one. Even the remastered version has some really odd quirks in the animation and control set up which kind of annoy me.

That trailer above though just put a smile on my face. Despite running through the game a number of times, I still am pretty awed with what it’s doing.

Plus, it’s great fun to boot.

I totally love UC1, and I actually like it less when it goes to zombie town.

The remaster's amazing at 60 fps, and Bluepoint even unified the shooting systems to use UC2's.

Got up to chapter 19 yesterday. This sure seems a lot longer than the previous games - although much more cinematic. Hoping I will finish it on my next play.

Looking forward to seeing how it wraps up considering it's the last game.

Also;

Technically, it's not. Lost Legacy is.

I have not looked into Lost Legacy at all, but Uncharted 4 is the end of drakes story right? (that's what i meant). Maybe you shouldn't answer that..

A surprisingly convincing Sully there. If Fillion can lose a stone or so, and if they switch the actress out for someone who can actually act (she was woeful), then yeah, I'd be game.

It's not needed, not in the slightest. But it would be fun.

I bet they're fed up with Hollywood faffing around and not getting anywhere with the original - I mean, Nathan Fillion has been favourite choice for so long - good luck to 'em and I hope this gets the funding.

Finished this last night! Easily one of the best looking games I have played!

Had a lot of fun playing it, had a few issues on some of the gunfights later on in the game and the "boss" took me a few turns to get right.

Despite this game being more cinematic that the others (i wasn't really sure i wanted to sit through so much cut scenes) i really enjoyed the story, despite it being predictable and cliche at times.

Also, the story seems to "nod" to The Goonies several times with it's story. Anyone else notice that?

The end chapter was a nice inclusion, it felt a bit like

life is strange

To me, Naughty Dog really worked their hardest to make this the best end to the series they could - although I wouldn't be surprised to see another game further down the line - from Naughty Dog or otherwise (like what happened with Crash). Although with that ending..

Not quite sure a movie really needs to be done - if they do, maybe make a brand new story and have some parts of the games appear in it just to make the connection.

I shall have to give Lost Legacy a go, but might hold of for a bit.

I played this game at launch almost 5 years ago. I kinda wanted to play it again but I had quite an old HD tv and FAT PS4 so I held off from doing it for years. Last year I got my PS5 and a new fancy 4K HDTV but I still made excuses, waiting for ND to do a PS5 patch. Recently I gave up and just played it, only about 5-6 hours in.

- It's quite amazing how flat this looks nowadays. ND are the pioneers of environment art, I remember at the time saying this was the best looking game both in terms of tech and direction. You get some nice HDR here and there but after playing PS5 for so long, yeah the lighting is clearly 'last gen' and looks more flat with no ambient lighting. Also not anywhere near as much geometry/tessellation, so walls and floors can feel really flat too. I mean don't get me wrong, the art/lighting direction is amazing but it surprised me just how dated the environment tech looks already.

- Traversing the environments is still fun I find. I forgot that in this one they ditch/tone down the really obvious climbing points being white/yellow etc. They are more like relaxing puzzles in their own right.

- Surprised with how dull combat feels, I think I remember at launch people complaining about the cross hair aiming? or was that UC3? but it just feels too floaty.

- UC has no weapon upgrading/resource/buying/selling collecting etc. I find these days without that it doesn't make for an engaging game especially with the flakey combat. It's really the story and settings that pull you through it. Even the treasure you find, it's just a 'to do' list and you can't actually do anything with it.

So yeah it's kind of underwhelming even though I loved it at the time, so I definitely think it's a series that is aging quickly. The odd thing is that at the time, it felt like everyone was saying that they have pushed the series as much as they could and that it was the right time to end it (or after lost legacy at least) After playing UC4 recently though, I really think there is more you can do with it.

- Improve combat, especially in regards to animations. Even if it had the weight and feel of LOU2 combat, that would be a huge step up.

- Keep the traversal stuff, that's the heart of UC but open it up more. Don't make just 1 path through an environment, let the player be more creative and make them feel like they found their own way.

- Weapon upgrading, stores, some kind of resource collecting. Have treasures not be so binary, perhaps sell them (even risk haggling) and also combining treasures for more value (i.e RE8)

- Next gen lighting is perfect for tombs, do it before TombRaider does it! but honestly, current tech is capable of so much more now that a new UC game could look incredible.

- Ditch Drake (other than cameos/support), have the daughter be the new lead.

After playing this I really think there is room to refresh this series, if ND move onto other IPs (and perhaps they should do) then I think them trusting another respected studio to take on UC could be a really smart move for ND/Sony.

I'd just like to state I find the opposite to be the case - too often it's relentless busywork with little gameplay value, and games these days that eschew it probably have given it more thought than those that blindly include it.

Totally agree, anything that requires me to spend time in a menu / ship / work bench can get tae fuck, I want to play the game, not so busy work.
