Next-gen's nearly here. What do you need to finish off?

So, regardless of your Bone or PS4 intentions, next gen is around the corner. If you're intending on buying in more or less Day 1 (so let's say this year) what from the current gen is going to keep you on your old machines?

For me, there's not much that I really want to grab and play. Arkham Origins, The Last Of Us, GTA5 (obviously) and Saint's Row 4. I think.

What have you guys got? I figure I can give GTA5 a good go before PS4 turns up, but knocking all that off will be tough. And I've got a few PS+ games that I should knock out, too. Spec Ops: The Line being one.

I've mainly bought PC games for the last year or two, so it's mainly some console exclusives. The only ones I can think of are GTA V and The Last of Us but I'm sure there's more on my pile of shame. I still haven't decided when making the leap, I haven't been following the news that closely so I have no idea what the PS4 launchtitles will be apart from Killzone and Knack and the Xbone can eat a bowl of dicks for the moment and won't be available over here until they've taught Kinect to speak Dutch or some daft shit like that anyway.

The only thing that kind of holds me back is the lack of backwards compatibility for the PS4 really. I've got accustomed to having only the one console under the TV for a fair while now (ever since flogging the 360) and having the PC do the rest. But...as time goes along, I'm getting more and more swept up by techno-lust...

Finishing games, now there's an idea!

I'll never finish these games, I rarely do, but I'd like to spend a lot of time on GTAV and possibly GT6. GT6 depends on my powers of resistance to upgrading to one of the new machines, as I have no plans to keep my PS3. How long my PS3 holds out may be the deciding factor in all this.

Grand Theft Auto V and Gran Turismo 6 will be the last major games I buy and play on my PlayStation 3 but what games!

I imagine I'lll only jump into the bed of the next generation when I've rinsed these 2 titles, which should take me some time.

Clearly, my problem is that until Naughty Dog decide to release remastered versions of their games on the PS4, I'll have no choice but to keep my PS3 going...not exactly a huge problem but...

I adore the Uncharted games, but thankfully I realised a few years ago I never replay games. It only took me a few decades to work that out. De-cluttered my games and consoles like a mofo.

I feel for now I'm going to hold off on the next gen, I was pumped for the PS4 and was going to be there launch day. I think that money may be better off going towards a new Mac.

Only getting a PS3 a few months ago there are lots of games that I can pick up cheap to keep me going until I do upgrade and that's not including my PS+ pile of digital shame.

But that's my problem...I buy loads of new stuff on Steam, yet all I seem to do is replay my faves all the sodding time. I might as well just arrange a direct debit and let people clear my cash every month for all the good it does me...

Pretty much every single game I've bought in the last seven years.

Oh my, this. Currently sitting unplayed are:

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Bully (360)

Mirrors Edge

Def Jam Rapstar (Don't laugh!)

Halo 4 (SP)

Fallout 3

Kane & Lynch (Always wanted to see what the fuss was about)

Current gen games I still need to buy / play are:

GTAV

MGS Legacy Collection (I have them all multiple times, but still...)

The Last of Us

Bioshock Infinite

Remember Me

Tomb Raider

Metro: Last Light

Splinter Cell: Blacklist

GOW3

GOW Judgement

MG Rising Revengeance

Halo Anniversary

... wow, typing that, it seems kinda... too much? Especially with a PS4 and about 5 games pre-ordered

I guess im a retro fan then. Ive gotta do dishonored, dark souls, TLOU, and thats not even counting Metroid Prime 3 im about to start, some 16 bit stuff after finally getting some Wii emulators running..Seiken Densetsu 3 fan translation, Thunderforce 3 and 4, the continuing process of weapon farming in EDF 2025, and trying to get a patched version of Rondo of Blood to work on the Wii.

The second the new console goes under your tv. That's when the gen's finished. Nothing gets played from before that moment, even if you intend on doing so.

Unless you're a retro fan, I guess.

I'm a retro fan, but I still see truth in this. When I got the 360 (when Halo 3 came out), the handful of Xbox, PS2 and GC games I'd not finished rarely got attention again. I know I revisited it a few times, but other than Doom 3 I can't think of a single game off the top of my head that I actually returned to and finished.

The Wii went the same way, meaning I've still not finished Mario Galaxy, and still not played Metroid Prime 3.

I still have them all, and still have good intentions to go back and mop them up, but Time does not care for intentions or we'd all be immortal. And rich.

This gen has certainly taught me not to buy too many games!!

I will make sure I will keep the games low on the PS4

That's something I've done well with this gen. I went from PS2/Xbox/GC and a mountain of games for all of them to just a PS3 and maybe 4/5 games a year. Selling on or trading in anything I finished or hadn't touched for a couple of months. I never have more than five games in my collection now at any one time.
