Ys IX is out on the Switch on Friday, anyone picking it up? My copy arrived yesterday and I managed to put in 30 minutes or so this morning (finished the prologue) and it seems...fine. I enjoyed VIII for the most part, but thought it overstayed it's welcome long before the credits rolled. I'm hoping this one isn't quite as bloated.

Having recently became an Ys fan, I’ve just ordered Monstrum Nox for the Switch.

I couldn’t find it anywhere, is this a limited release? Eventually got it from the games collection but everywhere else I tried had no listing.

I’m just on my final playthrough of Ys Origins, which has a lot of fan service to the original games. I’m interested to see what transcends across games into the newer versions, e.g. the item collection jingle.

If it's anything like Ys VIII, it'll be incredibly limited and hard to get hold of after its initial print run.

Awww Ys!! All DAT FALCOM GOODNESS is currently on sale in the PlayStation store. I'm taking a break from Elden Ring and was searching for something else to play in-between,  but I kept bouncing off everything - enter DAT YSSSS

I bought Ys Memories of Celceta and Ys IX Monstrum Nox and The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel III. I eventually want all of them so why not. I've been playing Celceta and it's BRILLIANT.  The last Ys I've finished previously was VIII and you can totally see how this game laid the groundwork for most of the ideas in VIII.

Yes, it was originally a PSP or Vita game, but it looks charming and atmospheric, but most of all it plays like a dream and is fun fun fun!

Every time I play an Ys for the first time I'm again amazed by how much I enjoy Ys

The sale is still on! Get your Falcom on!

Ys Memories of Celceta on Vita is the only Ys game I've ever played when it was on PS+ years ago and thought it was absolutely amazing.

I've got VIII sat ready to go on my Switch.

What are the Trails of Cold steel games like?

I didn't realise there were so many of them!

They're more like traditional turn-based JRPGs. But just like Ys they're of a higher quality with a lot more charm than most other examples of the genre. They definitely feel and look like they're made by the same studio that makes Ys if you know what I mean

I really enjoyed playing celceta when it came out and it's probably one of my favourite recent JRPGs. In a strange way I think it actually benefited from being a port essentially because it didn't feel like it had as much bloat as they often have.

I've played two of the cold steel games I think (maybe 3) and for whatever reason didn't get along with IV nearly as much as III .

The annoying thing looking at the golden week sale on the PlayStation store is I find it difficult to know which is which of the ys games and which I've played 🙄:blah:

Awwww Ysss I'm still playing Celceta and it keeps getting betta and betta!

I'm seriously enjoying it as much as VIII. Maybe even slightly more because it's more compact. What a wonderful game. Falcom should port more stuff to PlayStation. Highly recommended for everyone who's Ys-curious.

"10作目のイースになる

This literally means "[something]* will be the 10th Ys"

*that word is missing in this sentence

Edit: Ah, that's from a bullet points list. Yes, they're saying that the concept art published in Famitsu is from the 10th Ys. You can conclude they're definitely at least working on it. Not that it's the next game

Still playing through the Trails of Cold Steel Series, but adding Zero to my Wishlist. Got Ys VIII sat on my PS4 too.

My first Falcom game was Tokyo Xanadu EX+ on the PS4 and I had a great time with that. Well worth a look of you haven't tried it, has a very Trails vibe but set in modern day. Combat os action based rather than turn based though.

I really should get into the Ys series. I just never know where to start.

If you want the classics first, Ys I&II on Turbografx. Or the Chronicles version if that's a bit too archaic these days.

If you just want an ace Ys game, VIII. Many say it's the best in the series.

All this Ys talk has me ready for X. Here's hoping for news soon.

Zero is on my wishlist! I also have a Steam Deck coming my way as I type this with the Trails in the Sky trilogy being the main reason for that purchase :) Those games aren't available on any other current platform AFAIK but they're marvellous

I'm currently wrapping up Ys 7 on PS5 and still have Ys IX on my backlog shelf!

So much Falcon goodness, so little time. Imho Falcom>Atlus but keep that between us ok :)

Fwiw trails in the sky is technically unsupported on deck, but I have tried it out and it seems absolutely fine. Looks better than I remember.

I hope all three work fine regardless. I mean, those games especially are #perfectfordeck

Trails in the Sky 1 and 2 are unsupported, 3 is #deckcheck. I tried 2 and it seems to run perfectly? Looks gorgeous too. I already rinsed 1 and I'm gagging for 2, but I just hope it doesn't crash at the final battle of the game or something lol. But thinking about it, with Steam Cloud it doesn't really matter

My LE has finally arrived from the NIS Europe store. They didn't recalibrate their shrink wrapping machine to take into account the amount of empty space in the box compared to CS4 so it arrived a little squashed. I'm only halfway through CS4 and should really finish it before starting Trails from Zero but from my brief 'check that the cart works' test the attract screen made me very nostalgic for Trails in the Sky which I should also go back and finish at some point.

Zero is good but it's really confusing my brain it being an 'in between' game and not remembering correctly what game, or who, or when if I've met some of the other characters that show up :blah:

Fast mode is handy AF though and I do like super deformed (which sounds a lot more problematic, is there a better term for that?) It is clearly an uprezzed handheld game or whatever though, should have probably gone for switch (if there is one ) but they're very well done and a lot more engaging than I found rise which is the last similar jrpg I played).

It doesn't help that when characters from previous games appear it assumes you know who they are. CS3 was very confusing at times. This is the timeline which is why I'm thinking of going back to Trails in the Sky before I finish CS4.
