As for the actual episode:

In one scene we saw William try and fail to get his senator friend to push the opening of the new park (this time on US soil), prompting his replacement with an identical host. It’s also implied that the wife, who they kept alive, was to serve as a test subject for the mind control flies. In the next scene, the flies are being used in the production environment and the park has been built, staffed and operated for the first guests. 
 

My guess is we’re being shown two different timeframes again - possibly separated by a war that’s taken place in the intervening 7 years? Dolores-Charlotte basically says to the state department guy - we don’t have time to replace everyone with hosts, so we developed another way to do it faster (the flies), which makes me think the senator who was replaced by a host was replaced before that became a viable option. 
 

Then again, if someone as dumb as me can theorise all this, it’s probably misdirection that the show runners are feeding us. When they did the same trick in the first season it was a huge twist - if I can see it coming down the track, then they probably have something else up their sleeve.

This is such an odd show, I watched a recap a few weeks back. Watched episode 1 and no idea what's going on. My partner seems to be convinced that evil cowboy man died last season but I can't remember that at all. I don't think it mentioned that in the recap. For what this is, 1 hour shows are too much. So am now watching it in half hour chunks now

 

Is this the final season at least? or is it like Stranger Things where I read they are ending the show and presume season 4 is the final one only to find out in the final episode that there is going to be another? If there is another, I might just pull out now.

 

How did this turn into WalkingDead?! When the first season was airing this was the biggest and most acclaimed show, it was a highly praised piece of work.

I'm quite enjoying it now, since it's settled and embraced it's "this is now a cyberpunk thing" mentality I find it easier to forget its more philosophical and intriguing first season.

Much like the original Matrix, the writers of Westworld will never convince me they had concrete plans beyond season one. That season was so perfectly disciplined and contained that what has followed feels very much like ‘oh shit! They want more? What did we scrawl on those napkins?’

Oh yeah, the Matrix series is a good comparison of how this show feels. We're now in Matrix 4, even down to the 'videogame/developer' angle.

I watched the first season which I really enjoyed but gave up early in season two. I hadn't realised there was a third and so was somewhat surprised to see season four showing. Just watched that twenty minute recap of the first three seasons and my brain has melted. It has piqued my interest again though so will give season four a go.

All they needed to do was slowly reveal more areas of the park and have a story about samurai/ninja/cowboys/native Americans/gangsters etc having a massive turf war with a bunch of humans stuck in the middle. Every season chuck a new theme into the mix and shift political allegiances. Basically Jurassic Park for time periods. But nope, the gravitational pull of their own arses was too strong.

The main issue is that it’s a great basic premise that’s inherently limited. You have two basic stages show future theme park working okay and then show future theme park once everything’s gone to shit. That’s why it worked well as a film. As a long-form series you quickly burn through the attraction of the setting and end up with whatever the hell this now. Crichton’s successor to Westworld, Jurassic Park has also suffered with diminishing returns (not in terms of box office)  as they try to stretch the premise beyond breaking point. Oh we’re going to try setting up a dinosaur theme park for a third time.

In retrospect it’s clear that Anthony Hopkins pulled off one of the all-time great carry jobs in the first season. It’s fundamentally a different show when he’s on screen.

This has now hit “stop watching” territory for me. I’d not really care if there is a season 5 at this stage.

This season has a much better central mystery, and call me tantric, but it’s giving up the answers much too easily! That last line Christina delivered honked like a clown horn, too.

I’m enjoying it very much though, the idea that Hale-Delores gave the hosts their freedom and they… built a park!
 

What is the procedure spoken of by the female host who killed herself? Is it what we saw when Hale and host William were walking through the facility, and a host was having his control unit removed and put into…

something? 
 

Also, it’s still really unclear why Christina has been kept in the dark about her true nature. Unlike the other hosts she’s a prisoner physically and consciously - yet she’s being used to write narratives for the human population.  Why her? She can control both humans and hosts, so that makes her a pretty big deal. 
 

Looking forward to seeing what happens with Caleb next, now he’s a host. William tried and failed for years and years to revive his father as a host, but never succeeded - how has Hale done it?

what I don’t get, in an episode that felt like it was giving a lot of answers (and a bit of horror - the guy playing the keyboard), is why Hale created Christina in the first place.

 

also, presumably not every host can control people as much: but then William host can, and presumably others given the big rescue the immune lady scene - so why not Teddy?

Im pretty sure her boss is a host - he was aware of the ‘park’ and had a senior position in the ‘company’ where they’re writing the narratives for and controlling the humans, it seems unlikely that he’d be in that position if he wasn’t a host.

I took her boss to be a human cos of the way she narrated his story to control what he did.

 

The 'procedure' looked like they were abandoning bodies and having their consciousness uploaded to a cloud reality like the one all the Westworld escapees went to that Bernard was using to run all those simulations to get his Tiswas Haderach powers.

 

It was a better ep this week (I'd enjoyed ep 3 but #4 was shit), Ed Harris' mostly carried it.

La Resistance were stupid again. They hide in the desert but travel to New New York on a kickass speedboat by driving right up the New Hudson River and then just wander around in broad daylight. You wouldn't get away with that in modern day let alone a city where every inch is monitored by evil robots. unless wish.com Hemsworth was somehow masking their presence but I don't think they know he's a robot. Come the fuck on.

Also confused about what Hale meant when she said to Maeve that the “others” from the Sublime will want to join her in her new world. I thought the hosts who had transcended had gone to the Sublime.
