I wouldn’t go so far as to call it generic. Although there was one point tonight where I speculated about what was going on, only to be disappointed by the actual explanation and left feeling like what I came up with myself was actually more clever.

this is utterly generic sci fi drivel that Netflix trots several a year out of, usually with Katie Sackoff in, elevated into being a shinier turd due to its inflated HBO budget.

 

the first series was so good, so different, but could never continue in that manner or location. in that respect this reminds me of something like Prison Break, which fell apart the second it had to expand its world beyond the initial super contained premise.

They do seem to have done an abrupt about-turn with Dolores' motivations, from Kill All Humans to Free All Humans From Their Pre-ordained Paths Just Like The Hosts Had In Westworld Do You Get It, which makes me a bit worried there's no actual overarching plan and they're Losting it up as they go.

Oof, this is rubbish. At point I said to Mrs Spags that the flashbacks to potatohead’s earlier life would be much more interesting to watch. Then they proved me wrong. 
 

I still don’t understand why they made the character in Shogun World look like an actual Yakuza boss.

 

I’ve been playing a stupid amount of Ghost Recon Wildlands lately and so have the show runners it would seem. I thought maybe I was losing it during that part...I even said out loud “synch shot”.

I like the story about Delores, Caleb and Serac. But I can’t help but notice that this season nothing Maeve does or says makes any sense. I don’t understand why she’s doing what she’s doing, even when she’s talking about it

I was one of those who thought season 2 largely disappeared up its own arse, with the timelines stuff feeling self-indulgent and overused, but season 3 has swung a bit too far in the opposite direction. Really, as we get further in, it feels more and more like Westworld should’ve been a series with a single classic season. The very beginning of the host rebellion being the last thing we see would’ve felt pretty fitting. There’s been moments of brilliance since, certainly, but mostly it’s felt like a show in search of a further point.

In fairness this season hasn't had anything that's plumbed the depths of awfulness like that bit in season 2, where the supposedly highly trained elite mercenary bumped into the lone sexbot and immediately became so horny he got everyone killed, in the style of Bugs Bunny in a dress getting one over on Elmer Fudd.

This show had one outstanding season, followed by a pair of floaters. I’ll finish this season, though it is fucking derivative and dull, poorly written with average performances, but I won’t be back for 4, 5, 6 etc. It’s become an utter waste of its core concept, and it’s clear Nolan and Joy have no idea what to do with it.

Just finished this seasons last episode - and found it dull.  But then the 5 minute after credit scene happens (which is madness they didn't put this at the end of the episode as I would imagine a lot of peeps would stop watching) which I found to be a far better story line that all of the season 3!

So William goes to Delos international head quarters in the middle east.  Where he believes the Hosts are creating them selves.  He finds Hale (Delores) in a room with a single host creator.  they have a bit of chat where he then goes to kill her then a host William appears (man in black William) who then proceeds to fight and slit real Williams throat.  the scene ends with Hale and Host William looking through a door where there are lines and lines of host creators.    See this where they should have went in this season down the future world story line with the host trying to take over by replacing peeps in the world.... oh and Bernard awakens from from his trop to either world where all the saved hosts are - guessing some time as he is covered in dust like he has been sitting there for some time.

Same here, although I was waiting for the 

 

mother of all twists that would ruin the story but seems like they played it pretty much straight. Like how Dolores chose Caleb years ago in the training version of Westworld.

 

The post credits scene was pretty cool. I'm assuming that Bernard has been in the Valley Beyond for some time seeing as he's covered in dust. Is season 4 going to have a significant time jump then to see how humans have taken back control and how much power the newly created hosts have?

We’ll go back to split timelines, one with Caleb and Maeve, and a later one with Bernard in the aftermath. 
 

This season mirrored the first quite closely, with Delores playing Ford’s role, and Caleb playing hers. So I think we’ll see an echo of her next season (via Laurence or Musashi), but our Delores is ultimately gone.

Pretty weird season overall. I enjoyed it while it lasted but not much substance like the previous seasons, more just a series of events that happened, and tonally very different to Westworld as we know it. 
 

That post credits sequence though? All in for season 4.

Drivel - both me and my partner were so bored we fell asleep at 745 in the evening watching it and only woke back up for the last few mins (with no inclination to rewind). Turning over to ch4 the Grayson Perry art show kept us both wide awake.

 

I'm done with it now (only lockdown bought me back for this series) - most of this series was just fights and shoot outs with endless respawns and lack of consequence as their brain balls always got recovered.

Just a load more shiny vapid cobblers. Even irritated me they had the balls/pearls to use Floyd in the closing scene.

 

This was actually significantly worse than season 2. And that was a shadow of S1.

Just to balance some of the above. I've watched the new season over the weekend and absolutely loved it. Wasn't overly confusing like the last season and delivered a solid action romp that expanded the bigger picture with a nice rhythm of reveals and twists.

This show is so goddamned problematic.

 

I watched season 1 back when it originally aired..and when it was done I was left thinking it was a shallow mess with obscene delusions of grandeur and the mistaken notion that countless red herrings are a good way to flesh out a story.

 

I gave season 2 a pass because I promised myself I wouldn't watch this show again..but in the run up to season 3 it was broadcast again, some time had passed and I thought I might as well give it another shot. If anything, it was even more of an indulgent, nonsensical car crash of a show but I ended up enjoying it more. Being able to ignore its flaws & accept that it's a super-dumb, often pretty show which thinks it's *really* clever helped a lot for me.

 

Moving straight onto the brand new season 3, I'll admit, I was gripped for much of the first half of it but its descent into abject stupidity in the final 4 episodes was like a new low for the series as a whole. 

 

What got me thinking about this show again was recently binge watching 'Devs' - which covered some of the same themes as Westworld - but did it amazingly well and without the kind of artistic concessions that something Westworld has to make to become a reality.

I just want to say that I loved episode5. Is that part of the rubbish second half of the series? The Formula E race was a bit lame but it picked up after that.

I liked it. I wasn't entirely sold, and the budget definitely seems lower (though they hide it pretty well).

 

It's a bit dumber, but it's still better than most drivel spewed out.

 

Bernard and Stubbs were a great double-act too.
