Pretty much a no-brainer when your movie makes that much money. Let's hope they tone down the editing and upgrade the violence.

From Comingsoon.net

Not long after the incredible success of Taken 2, it was revealed that work was underway to bring Taken 3 to theaters. Today, Deadline confirms that Liam Neeson is nearly set to return and will be paid almost $20 million to do so.

Robert Mark Kamen and Luc Besson will again provide the screenplay for the third film which, as Kamen noted last year, will offer a new twist on the franchise formula.

Released last fall, Taken 2 pulled in more than $375 million worldwide, beating the original Taken's total gross of $226 million.

Franchise stars Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen are also said to be in negotiations to return to their respective roles, but neither has been confirmed at this time.

Taken 2 was one of the funniest comedies I've seen in ages 'Start randomly throwing grenades so I can guide you!'

It was also fucking terrible and Neeson quite clearly sees these from Taken 2 onwards as easy paydays. I can't really blame the guy but with Taken 1 you could tell he was having fun and enjoying himself, and the action scenes were great and well directed. With Taken 2 he looks so fuckin bored out of his mind and the action scenes were bloody woeful. They need Morel back and for Neeson to give a shit this time.

I fully expect this to bomb and never be seen again.

Based on the negativity I heard about Taken 2 it wouldn't surprise me. It seems movie execs ignore all the reviews when deciding on doing another movie and just base it on the previous films figures.

Megaton returns to direct, Forest Whitaker joins the cast - From Comingsoon.net

Movement on Taken 3 is happening today as Deadline reports that Forest Whitaker is in talks for a leading role and that Taken 2 helmer Olivier Megaton has signed on to return for the third entry in the successful franchise.

Whitaker, who recently played the title character in Lee Daniels' The Butler, will join the returning Liam Neeson (who is said to be receiving nearly $20 million to reprise his role as Bryan Mills) with Maggie Grace expected to be back as well. Robert Mark Kamen and Luc Besson will again provide the screenplay for the third film which, as Kamen noted last year, will offer a new twist on the franchise formula.

Released in 2012, Taken 2 pulled in more than $375 million worldwide, beating the original Taken's total gross of $226 million.

I liked the 'you killed my guy and there are consequences' angle of Taken 2, which is something they don't really explore in action movies as they tend to have 'all the bad guys are dead and the hero lives happily ever after' style endings (die hard - die hard with a vengeance being the only example of follow through I can think of), but it was a totally squandered premise used as an excuse for Liam Neeson to kill that Russian bearded guy who plays a Russian bearded guy in everything that requires a Russian bearded guy.

I imagine it'll somehow intersect with that other film where he smashes up a European city - Unknown?

Violent Liam Neeson will meet up with forgetful Liam Neeson, there will be something about the duality of man to appeal to far east markets and then it'll all go white at the end like a Japanese RPG from the 90s.
