No one will ever know whether his apology is real, but in the end at least he did it.  If he hadn't we'd still be moaning that so and so from another team apologised first or better or more sincerely.  Even as a Liverpool fan we are kidding ourselves if we think they will always do what is best for the club and fans.  The best we can hope for in this day and age is they will do the best for themselves as a business while doing what they want/can for the fans.  It's a sad part of life, money rules, greed rules and these clubs are big big business.

 

Whether that's good enough for people to continue to support a club like Liverpool, that's up to the individual, but it's very hard to leave something you've grown up with and supported for 20/30/40 years.  Football fans are inherently fickle, it won't be long before we are moaning they haven't bought X superstar for £100m because the club can't afford it.

Don't get me wrong, FSG have done wonders for Liverpool. They saved us from going under, they built the extension and are going to build another, they helped deliver us another CL and our first PL title. All whilst trying to manage the debt and helping reduce it.

 

It's just the last few days have really stung and shown their true colours. If they can, they will sell out the club and as buisnessmen you can see why they do these things but from a fans point of view it's abhorant.

 

Whats to say they don't try and fuck us over again with something? Even though they back peddled this time, whats to stop them going away regrouping and coming up with something simular in several years time, but with more backing from sponsors and TV companies etc. They tried to do what the PL did in 92, but didn't think it through properly, where as the PL did, they had Sky onboard.

Absolutely nothing to say they won't try again, because they will.  It's greed.  If there is a way to make more money out of your business the majority of people will take it.  They might even think they are also doing it to secure the club (or can use that as a reason).  I also believe the next owners will do it aswell (unless it was fan based ownership).  

 

It's a power struggle against Uefa.  It's funny how easily Uefa have welcomed them back to as they know these teams make them incredible amounts of money.

 

I wonder what we would have thought if they removed the non relegation part of this?  I'm sure we will see what happens soon.

Thing is, this isn't the first time the mask has slipped - it's not that long ago they tried to trademark Liverpool, fucking over a whole bunch of local businesses, and they tried to furlough a bunch of their low paid staff earlier in the pandemic before they had to roll that one back. I'm feeling kind of torn about all this, whilst not on the scale of Hicks and Gillett, FSG really don't give the first fuck about fans, and I think they would have still ploughed on with the Super League if other clubs hadn't folded first. Thankfully, the players and manager have stood up against them, so much like with Hicks and Gillett it'll be a case of supporting the team but not the owners. Not that I have for a while anyway, but there's not a chance I'll be giving money directly to the club while FSG are in charge. If I was still living locally, I'd be getting myself down to AFC Liverpool regularly.

At least in Henry's apology he doesn't claim that *he* loves the club, just the others working under him. That at least makes it feel ever so slightly more genuine.

 

Still a dumpster fire, of course.

That's what I took from it. Even though he referred to it as "Your club", he basically asked us to focus on him as the bad guy.

 

Who knows, though? FSG have come through on pretty much everything they said they would do, and there is no question that we are better off with them than we were before them. I keep on coming back to one thought, which is that all of their decisions to date have been smart as purely business decisions. And they have yet to force a single thing through once there has been sufficient opposition to it from the supporters. They have U-turned on literally everything that people have disliked. Perhaps it really is as simple as "Americans don't get football", and they think we're just like American fans. 

 

I, for one, am prepared to give him a chance.

It's definitely not an ideal situation and I'm sure it won't be long until they do something else for us to rally against but given the resources FSG have provided us and the success that has brought I'm willing to keep on supporting the club and therefore them by association. 

 

John Henry is a business man at the end of the day. It's his job to make money so when something like this comes up it's understandable for him to want it. However business men shouldn't be running football clubs as businesses but sadly, and with the obscene amount of money available in it now, that seems to be the way it is. It shouldn't but that's a whole different conversation.

 

I'm still in support of an alternative or different Europe-wide club competition because UEFA aren't exactly the good guys either (and the new changes coming to the CL is nearly as bad as the proposed Super League) but it needs to be something fair, inclusive, competitive and not just a venture that just benefits a few big clubs (and Spurs).

Oh lol ffs 

 

I raged quit and turned the TV off when Wislon scored. Noticed from messages it was disallowed,  turned tv back on just in time to see them score again. Fuck off Liverpool, get in the bin the lot you
