Pleasing enough performance and the central defensive partnership didn't put a foot wrong.

 

They'll get sterner tests in the weeks to come but the front three will just have to score more than the team concede.

Leipzig were average, but signs of a much better Liverpool performance throughout. Fabinho in midfield just allows so many other areas to tick.

 

Both goals were excellent, particularly the second, where the ball is won back in midfield and a few seconds later it’s in the back of the opposition’s goal. Haven’t had that incision for a while.

Also, last time Messi and Ronaldo went out of the CL before the quarter-finals?

Having Jota back and Fabinho in his natural position really changed things. Hopefully this is a reshuffle that will last the season, the central defence is kapot, no need to continue unbalancing midfield by patching it up, our form prior has shown it’s not worth sacrificing the midfield for. Better to have a weak defence if it means our attack is working. With our riches there we should have enough to win the majority of games pending our luck with injuries reversing itself.

Wolves up next, a tough away but at least it’s Monday night so a few extra days R&R. Last game until 3rd April, hopefully can carry a bit of momentum into that, and into the last phase of the season.

 

Not getting carried away as there is a lot still to address, but the overall shape of the team last night was much more familiar. It’s been a frustrating season to this point, but it can still end well.

Unchanged from Leipzig. Hopefully Fabinho can manage two games in under a week so soon after coming back from injury. It's hard to feel confident about any match at the moment because the form has been so poor.

Both Phillips and Kabak did well enough again. Fabinho was absolutely blowing out of his arse after about 70 minutes, the team need him to get fully fit as soon as possible.

Phillips is the Bolton Baresi. New cult hero. And to be fair to him, he’s not really put a foot wrong while he’s come in. Van Dijk is going to have to fight for his place!
