There is a distinct lack of leadership in the midfield at the moment, Milner has given that recently and he has been in good form. Losing him early on was a problem. Once Leicester equalise Henderson is the lone voice in that team currently, none of the others leap out as characters who will make decisions.

There is a clear lack of confidence running through the team and that's exacerbated by the lack of leadership.

Damage limitation is the goal this season.

Threw away what’s left of the league season in seven minutes. So frustrating, as up until then the side controlled the game, scored a brilliant goal and should have seen it out to get some stability before the derby.

Got no confidence in making the Europa League let alone top four. Needs a run of five or six wins, but where are they coming from at the minute?

I'm not sure why everyone is being so negative, we've already got 40 points so are guaranteed Premier League football next season.

Jota and Keita should be back in two to three weeks, today hopefully hasn't affected Kabak's confidence too badly and hopefully Alisson's new habit of gifting opposition teams goals is only temporary.

Why was Henderson starting at CB again, too? We have 2 CBs now, play them! And any chat about throwing them in at the deep end is pretty redundant, given how badly we've been lately. Let Henderson get back into midfield and the defensive shape as a whole might actually improve anyway because we aren't overrun in midfield all the time.

VAR drawing the defending line from the shadow of Firmino's leg, for the 1st Leicester goal, is fucking hilarious. His foot is pointing left and the line is drawn 8 inches in the other direction. I can only assume that the VAR software does some image recognition and decided that the shadow of Firmino's leg was his foot pointing to the right. To be fair to the VA referee, it took me a good minute or so to see it.

My thoughts from the start of the season. I've also got a feeling Klopp might go at the end of the season. I don't want him to at all, and I don't think the board or anyone will want him to, but I think he's starting to feel like he's done all he can and with his recent family issues and everything else, going back to Germany must look appealing.

The team are looking to need a bit of a rebuild, if not now then soon, and before his contract is up. I'm not sure he'll want to take that on.

We should still scrape a top four spot, but if we don't, this whole team could fall apart Monaco style. It's like the early '90s all over again.

Go back to the end of last season (after the defeat at Arsenal in particular) when I said our the players looked off and everybody said it was a blip, it'd be fine once the new season started blah, blah, blah but it hasn't been. Even at the start of the season when we were winning some games (remember that feeling? :P) we weren't playing all that great for the most part, and every win felt a lot harder to earn than in the previous couple of years and at no point have I felt confident we could overturn going a goal down. In fact, I don't think we have come from behind to win this season, have we?

Quite obviously the defensive injuries have been massive (although VVD's form dropped quite a bit the minute we won the title and he was at fault for at least a couple of goals, which was a new experience for him) but whilst Fabinho has generally worked well, Henderson hasn't. Not because he can't defend (though it's really not his strong suit) but because of the impact it has clearly had in midfield too. Where it gets frustrating ties into your other point (which I've been talking about for 18 months now) which is that our squad is easily the thinnest of the other big clubs. Yes, losing our three CBs is hard for any team to deal with, but you would expect to have at least one other CB with league experience in the squad - not just a kid from the academy and somebody clearly not trusted who'd only played league 2 in Germany. Now if the issue is that he doesn't think either Williams or Phillips are ever going to be good enough, okay, fair enough. But if he thinks one, or both, might be useful, then play them, for crying out loud! How would he ever expect them to make the grade if they never get any games? I know Williams has made some mistakes, but Phillips has always been decent when he's come in, hasn't he?

I said the same as you last week about Klopp - I wouldn't be surprised if he went (even though nobody would want him to), because he has a task ahead of him next season, no matter where the club end up come May and perhaps now his mum has sadly passed the pull to return 'home' might be too strong to resist.

Finally, I know this type of post will usually attract a string of "We've achieved so much, why are you moaning?" or "They've given us such memories," type responses (or none at all ) but I'm not angry or foaming at the mouth, just a bit disappointed and I like discussing this stuff. Plus, and here's the big one, it's great that we've all got such fantastic memories over the past 3 seasons (and we really have, no question) - but who here can honestly say they don't want to continue to enjoy new ones?

Think a lot of the players are just exhausted from the last 2 or 3 seasons and/or less motivated now they've won the big competitions. The enthusiasm and impact Jota had before being injured was on another level to the rest of the squad.

This year is pretty much a write off.  It's frustrating but might be better off trying to rotate in players?  Give Origi a run of games see if it kick starts him, if not he's out etc?

I have to say I can't remember a side having quite the injury problems liverpool have had this year.  Most teams have a settled 18 that are likely to be starters and bench for the majority of games.  You'll have injuries here and there. Liverpool have had half that 18 injured at various points this season.  That's hard to manage for any team.

Wasn’t it Ferguson who said that teams generally have a 3yr life cycle and need to be refreshed? The team and players are still excellent and I believe we’d have won the title this year if the central defence wasn’t torn out but every few years difficult questions have to be asked. This squad achieved everything they could at club level in the last few years, giving it all mentally and physically, becoming one of the great prem sides, is the hunger and desire still there in some players to repeat that feat again? That’s no knock on the players it’s just human to drop off after giving your all over so long.  I’m sure that’s the question that Klopp is asking, I have no doubt that he’ll be here next season and will relish the opportunity to rebuild, something he never got given the chance at Dortmund. That would mean a tweak in playing style and much like United in the Fergie era some surprising exits too. This summer will be exciting nevertheless.

Still top four and champions league to play for. Let’s hope that a Fabinho and Kabak partnership starts working soon.

Bela Guttman was the most notable proponent of the three year rule. Think in the modern game it’s more than possible to have the same manager produce multiple great sides. However, often managers don’t stay in one place for long enough anymore.

Ferguson achieved it, Mourinho did it albeit at multiple clubs, Pep looks like he’s done it at Man City this year. Hopefully Klopp gets the opportunity to do so too, or rather he feels the desire to do.

One good thing is not being anxious all week every week about our game and City’s game, I still think we’ll get our act together for Top 4, I’m surprised we still have a decent position feels like we should be 13th of something

Yeah feels like we’ve completely capitulated this season and Utd are having one of their best in a while and we’re only 6 points behind them and in the Champions League still and they’re knocked out.

I think it shows how important a full preseason is. For the high pressing game Klopp implements the players need to be fully conditioned before the season starts.

City, & Man Utd had no conventional preseason and played longer and they're doing alright.

Liverpool had about 6 weeks off, too, didn't they? Which would be about normal in a World Cup/Euros season.

Basically, I don't think that is the issue.
