Wouldn’t be that surprised at a loss against West Ham. Until there are two senior CBs in the back four, the side’s form will be erratic.

Think the only real concern for this season is ensuring Champions League qualification. Anything else will be a massive bonus, and genuinely as impressive as anything achieved previously during Klopp’s reign.

It’s a simple fix go out and get some defenders ideally on loan or free transfer, I get we are in a pandemic but if we finish outside top 4 we have no-one else to blame but the management for not buying during this transfer window.

I don't see why Upamecano would move now unless someone puts a silly offer in front of him. If the story about his release clause is correct then in five months time he'll have his pick of every top club in Europe.

If it was that easy, loads of clubs would do it, especially picking up free agents (we are hardly the only team that needs good quality CBs). Even in normal times getting somebody good in January can be a struggle, let alone the sheer 'desperation factor' that will add a few million to any negotiations we would enter into.

I believe the club probably have been looking for solutions since VVD was injured and then definitely with more urgency when Gomez got crocked too, but I'm not sure there's a lot out there that would not only provide enough quality but also fit in with the team's style of play - and there's not a lot of time to train this season.

With all the players how have they not managed to find one suitable defender that would fit into our squad? If we lose the City game that is our title defence over & we are then on a struggle to get top four. All because we could not sign a decent defender in the January transfer window.

You’re living in a football manager world mate. This isn’t FIFA ultimate team. We buy within our means (look at our net spend compared to the rest of the prem). We spent £60-70m in the summer, I don’t think we have a spare £60m to get a defender that once VVD and Gomez are fit might not even get in the team.

Klopp has always been very deliberate in who gets signed, he clearly looks for the right temperament and character. Finding somebody who fits those characteristics, whilst also being of sufficient quality, interested and available for a reasonable fee - well, good luck with that mid-season.

Who do you think is out there that the club could move for?

Going out and getting someone on a free transfer or a loan is how you end up with Steven Caulker for the rest of the season. There's no point in going out and getting just anyone, especially when we already have kids that can step up - even if I personally don't think Phillips and Williams are long term prospects, they can do a job for now.

Of course, I'd rather we went out and bought someone amazing, but it just isn't realistic.

I don't want us to spend 60m but surely we can get someone for less than £10 million who has experience at the top level to fill in for now & then revert back to be third choice once Gomez/VvD are fully fit. Matip is not good enough to fill-in he only lasts a game before he is out for three.

Quote

Liverpool (4-3-3) Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Henderson, Robertson; Milner, Thiago, Wijnaldum; Shaqiri, Salah, Origi.
Substitutes: Adrian, Kelleher, Tsimikas, R Williams, N Williams, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Firmino, Minamino.

Not a good sign that there are two goalkeepers on the bench.

You keep saying this so I'll ask again, who do you think is available, especially at that kind of money?

Are any of these any good?

I have to say I'm yet to see anything in Minamino that makes me think he will be good enough.

Not that Origi is.

To be fair to him, how many minutes has he had since we bought him? Not many, I would reckon.

Lots of huff and puff but nothing of of interest to report. Normal service returned.

What do people think about Neville's comments about Thiago?

It is the one big difference in midfield this season but he does bring a creative touch which is very useful.

Why does Klopp not start Nat Philips every game? He seems decent enough.
