Seeing both teams labouring so badly after an hour in November only heightens the worry that teams will be fielding U15s by March.

Hopefully Trent won’t be out too long but also might give him a rest for a few weeks.

Last time City drew with Liverpool after missing a penalty in the league they went on to win the title.

I don’t think Firmino going off broke the press, Liverpool were starting to get overrun in midfield which is why the change was made.

Coincidentally, that was also the last time a penalty in the Premier League entirely missed the target according to Opta.

Firmino was replaced by Shaqiri, was he not? That is probably the least defensive player on the bench and definitely not the player you bring on to try and shore up a midfield.

I saw nothing today to make me change my pre-season prediction. City are the 2nd best team in the division, and will finish 2nd to us. Ignore the current table, there's a long way to go yet.

Nothing has changed my pre-season thoughts either, that a number of other teams are a lot closer this season than for a few years. I think a lot of the challenging clubs are going to be taking points off each other making for a much, much tighter - but exciting, I'm sure - title race. I don't think it'll be a Liverpool/City 1/2 either.

VAR continues to ruin football.  The handball rule is now a joke, making it worse having the refs watch it back in slow motion! Offsides for pointing arms now, makes a change from an armpit off side I suppose!

As for yesterday's game.  I thought it was a fair result in the end.  Both teams played brilliant in the first half, with Liverpool edging it.  Man City had more possession second half but the game slowed down a bit and was a bit lacklustre.

Well, fuck.

Appreciate we've got a bigger squad than most, so are better positioned to cover absences but this is getting ridiculous now. Have to think that as well as the increased exertion this season, the side is also feeling the effects of two seasons of intense pressing with little respite in between. Counting down the games/training sessions until one of Mo or Mane get crocked.

You're correct @dizogg but Matip is normally 5 or 6 games away from a month out.

Yep, Matip can’t really be trusted to stay fit. Big chance for Philips or Williams to step up though, who in their limited games haven’t really put a foot wrong so far.

So Gomez is now joining VVD on the sidelines for a significant amount of the season, according to the club. Klopp isn't one to make rash decisions normally, so I wonder what he's thinking in terms of the January transfer window now? It would be unfair to throw any of the youngsters into the first-team and could harm their development if results started to go awry, but clearly some astute shuffling of the pack is now required.

We'll have to cope until January and then evaluate. Night changed for Nate Phillips in the league.

If Matip can stay fit then we may get away with it.

We'll have to play a different style for a bit, so expect two holding midfielders over the next two months and then any four from the attacking talent we have to do damage up top.

Whoever plays in front of the holding midfielders will have a hell of a job. A lorry of running and energy needed to link up between those two areas off the pitch.

Or Neco Williams fits it nicely as does Phillips alongside Matip/Fab and we carry on as normal

Think it could be a nail in Gomez’ Liverpool career too. He’s been out of sorts for a while falling behind in the pecking order, VDV’s injury was an opportunity for him to prove his talent and stake his claim. It will be difficult for him to get back from this

What? Gomez isn't going anywhere, he's had a dip (just like VVD hdid since the restart) but he'll be fine.
