Messi et al made Van Dijk look very ordinary yesterday and Salah spent most of the first half running into walls.  Mane didn't score when he should have and the Scottish lad at left back couldn't cross a number on a lottery ticket.  Milner had chance after chance and kept passing it to the keeper.  I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool and Klopp win nothing again.  The commentators were hyping up an Anfield crowd under the lights.  These guys regularly go to Real Madrid and win, to Althletico Madrid and win so they won't be intimidated.

 

2nd place Klopp strikes again.

In the 70s, my father's preffered club outside Switzerland was Liverpool. He absolutely loved watching european cup matchs on tv, and my first replica shirt (I must have been 8 or 9) was a liverpool one.

 

To this day, I absolutely don't know why, but I decided to perpetuate the tradition, and so Liverpool is my team of choice in the world.

 

In 1990, I was too interested in drugs, booze and rock music to watch much football (and it wasn't cool).

 

This small movie brought a tear in my eyes, thanks. 

 

A little ray of sunshine in these difficult times.

There's a nice piece on BBC with a year-by-year account of what the club did since 1990 - and it includes a fantastic picture of Slyvain Distin scything Michael Owen in half :lol: Bet he didn't even get booked :P

As someone who grew up in the 90s it's glorious, especially with United now run by a former player with a local lad as their star striker and a goalkeeper who looks like he's been playing Tomb Raider all night. The arguments about fake fans just adds to the fun.

 

It also doesn't take long for the years without a title to mount up. United now haven't won it since 2013 (insert Leicester City / Kasper Schmeichel comment here) and Arsenal since 2004.

Oh god I don’t think I can cry any more. That animation just got me reminiscing about my grandad. He took me on the Anfield stadium tour when I was about 7 years old and gave me a history lesson on why Liverpool are the greatest football club in the world, but for the next 30 years he was constantly disappointed in our failure to dominate England as he always believed we should. He passed away just two years shy of witnessing what Klopp and the boys have achieved here and my word he would have loved it. 

 

YNWA sets me off every time too. One of my oldest friends took his own life in the summer of 2005, two months after a certain football march in a certain Turkish city. He was a true red, and as two guys with a scouse half of the family  who found themselves displaced from Liverpool in Lancashire we were called glory supporters and we did not care. We played football at the local par looking fresh in our ecru away kits, he Steve McManaman and I was Patrik Berger.:lol: 
 

 We had both moved apart by 2005. He was still in Lancashire, I was in Liverpool because I was not about to go to any other city on Earth for university. I couldn’t reach him to get to the Champions League parade and it was the only disappointment during one of the happiest 24 hours of my life. 
 

His funeral was a sea of red, his parents insisted on no black. Adults wore red ties and shirts, all of us under 20 wore Liverpool shirts with his name on the back.  The wake was the only one I’ve been to that really felt like the celebration of the person’s life we all want them to be. YNWA played as his coffin was lowered and we all sang it and we all bawled our eyes out. 
 

I am so sad that neither of them are here for this, but thinking about how much they’d have loved it makes all of these moments more special. I hadn’t cried about football since I watched Stevie lift the trophy in Istanbul, this team and this manager have broken me multiple times this season alone. 
 

I love this team, this manager, but most of all this wonderful football club.
