Ironically despite how much shit he got for being Gerrard’s successor Henderson is to become a much more successful captain.

Gomez is looking mustard again alongside VVD. No coincidence that this run of clean sheets has coincided with his return. Can’t expect Matip to walk back into the first 11 now.

Has he? If we win the league then that would trump him I guess but in terms of numbers right now its

Gerrard - 8 (plus a 3rd place Balon d'Or)

Henderson - 4

I'm a big fan of Hendo but he'll never be as influential as Gerrard.

Gerrard didn’t win 8 trophies as captain mate, he won 3 (2005, 2006 & 2012) *didn’t play in 2005 Super Cup

Henderson just doesn't have any big moments that would put him alongside Gerrard no matter how many trophies he wins. Gerrard has his own FA Cup final, the first CL final and scored all sorts of amazing goals in his career. Henderson doesn't score enough goals anyway but he is perfect for our current setup and the side is good enough that it doesn't need any heroes to drag us across the line.

Counterpoint, Gerrard knew his best position and played best there because everytime he was put elsewhere it didn't work.

This is a completely mute point imo, Gerrard is one of the greatest players and captains we've ever had regardless of his ego. People tend to have egos for a reason too.

Wrong. Gerrard's best season was playing further forward and before that playing out wide.

Gerrard spent a large part of his time under Benitez using pundits to get the message out that he wasn't happy playing where Benitez chose to play him, for the good of the team.

He was the best player Liverpool have produced, ever. He is up there in the all time greatest players and he is a fair margin better than Henderson as an individual player.

Right now though, this Liverpool team eclipses anything Gerrard was part of. Just imagine having Gerrard as part of this team though, he wouldn't fulfill the role Henderson is currently excelling in but he'd be amazing as one of the other midfield trio.

Don't be silly. Imagine Gerrard powered by Klopp hugs. He'd have been unstoppable. Not that he would really fit into our current side but that's kind of the point: Klopp doesn't have a rigid way of playing and then look to fit players into that. That's why there are no square pegs in round holes since he came in. He looks at the group and then makes signings to compliment the group. If we had a young Gerrard when Klopp came in, we probably would just be playing with a more typical right-back rather than an alien like Trent that can somehow run a game from right-back.

Phil was very much a Klopp player, too. It's not like Barca came sniffing and we went "yeah, here you go. Take him, please!". We wanted to keep him and he forced his way out. Obviously the group kicked on and grew in his absence so it worked out pretty great.

Read a Guardian headline today that had him out until the ‘New Year’. Got upset for Oxlaide-Chamberlain but then realised the report was posted in 2019.

Sheffield United impressive so far. Reds playing much better than they did against Wolves but in a similar game with well-organised, dangerous opponents.
