It isn’t though... just same clean sheets right? For instance that 98-99 season we let in 49 goals way above our current average extrapolated over the season. Basically we’re very frequently conceding 1 goal, but nobody has scored 2 against us. That’s pretty good.

After 14 games in the 98-99 season we’d conceded 2 or more goals 6 times.

Yep, should have said statistically the worst in terms of keeping clean sheets, which admittedly is utterly meaningless. You’re right, last team to score twice against us in the league is Newcastle in May.

Coincidentally they scored twice then, which they also did today against City. Makes you think.

Lol. It really does.

Btw I wasn’t trying to call your post bullshit it just sent me down a really geeky stats hole which I quite enjoyed.

Didn’t take it as such chap, I should have written the post better. Geeky stats holes are a wonderful way to while away time.

I’m trying to make sense if this wonderful team but can’t. It’s staggering that two such sides exist in the same era, albeit we’ve obviously not matched City’s sustained success yet. Maybe we’re not meant to make sense of them, they just are and we’re lucky enough to witness them while they’re here.

I’ll be 40 next year, and honestly don’t think Ill see a better Liverpool team, or one that brings as much joy, for the rest of my life. Albeit at the rate I’m gaining weight that might only be a few years anyway. But still, they’re really, really fucking good, even when they’re defending like madmen and on the rack with five minutes to go against Brighton at home.

Find it interesting Liverpool had 43% possession yesterday. We’ve seen how Klopp likes to control games, but wonder if such a low number is an anomaly - and don’t think having 10 men for less than a quarter of the match would explain it - or if the side might play a more counter-attacking style over the next few weeks to better conserve energy?

Would assume Everton will be set up for a point, and hope to nick more. So wonder if we’ll see an early flurry from our side, then if successful relinquish possession in favour of springing traps for a counter-attack.

City have been very good at winning games in the opening half hour, albeit both of our sides are a little less solid than last season.

Let’s hope it’s a very happy derby day indeed!

Already tried bargaining with the devil for a home win. He told me to get lost because gingers don’t have souls. Dammit.

Keita in tonight? He’s more combative than Oxlaide-Chamberlain but would obviously be rustier than an old piece of sun-kissed iron.

Nervous. Lovely stuff.

I'd settle for a nervy 1-0 win via a late VAR decision.

However, Everton looked decent at the weekend and were unlucky vs Leicester, they are clearly still behind Silva. I got a feeling we'll be on the wrong end of a 2-1 this time around.

Not convinced we’ll lose, but disappointing draws against Everton and Man United cost us last season, so there’s that. They’ll be celebrating for months if they get a point tonight.

Not really IMO. We did better than Man City against the rest of the league. It was just our home draw against City that cost us, at much as the Man U fans and Everton fans want to proclaim about their specific games.

It does depend on how you frame it. For me the draw at home to City was nowhere near as costly as the defeat to them. The draws at United and Everton came much later in the season though, and in quick succession. Those results let City get back ahead and after that point we were always chasing, hoping for them to drop points. Before those two draws the title was in our hands.

In isolation a draw in a derby wouldn’t be the worst result, albeit City will more than likely stroll through their own derby with United on Saturday.

See, the bar has been set so high now, that even draws against traditionally tough opponents is recognised as a failure. You can bet your bottom dollar that the spin on anything but a win tonight will be that the world is falling in.

I still see claims that last season getting only 1 defeat and 7 draws was a disaster. We dropped a total of 17 points across 38 games and got a higher points total than any other league winner bar City of 17/18 and 18/19. City have already dropped 13 points in just 15 games this season, so would need to be nigh on perfect to better Liverpool's points total from last season.

That season was a freak, having two teams be as close to perfect as you are ever likely to get. The most points United every got is 92 during the Premier League era. I think our worst dropped points came from timing more than anything. Failing to capitalise on City dropping points at place like Newcastle, when we dropped against Leicester and home and West Ham away. But again, they weren't defeats.

Do we really expect us to go unbeaten all season? Maybe we can emulate the Arsenal Invincible, but they still dropped 24 points that season. Which is 7 more than Liverpool dropped last season finishing second.

I don't even know what I am saying, I am just rambling.

Everton's results this season have made me start to believe they could go down. Like I know it's still a bit of a fanciful dream but the run they're putting together is making me believe that this could be their year. I'm really hoping we can give them that important 0 points they need to keep their bottom 3 hopes alive.

The comedown from this period e.g. going back to dropping 30-40 points a season, which would have been a half-decent season in most of our Premier League campaigns, is going to take some getting used to.

It's mad how high the standard is at the minute. It obviously cannot continue, as City's early form this season has shown. Although I'd still back them to win 10+ games on the trot at any point between now and May. But then so might we. In all likelihood the eventual title winner will do just that, probably more. Said before it'll be a rollercoaster, and even with the current eight-point lead, there's still so many twists and turns ahead. Cannot wait

This month is certainly a bad run of fixtures for them. If - and it's always a big if in a derby - they lose tonight, and Saints beat Norwich, they'll be bottom 3. Silva would then more than likely get biffed, so then there's a massive decision and potential turning point for the rest of their season, particularly with Chelsea and Manchester City still to come this month.

They played well at Leicester though, and were unlucky not to get a point at Anfield last season (LOL) which will surely be on their minds. Expecting a positive response from them.

Think tonight's game and Leicester away in a few weeks will be the games where we'll most miss Fabinho's measured control but we shall see.

One of Keita or Richarlison is getting sent off tonight.
