What really really impressed me wasn't the pressing or the togetherness - that's easy.

The passing was so crisp and so accurate. One touch, finding players. We split them apart. There was such an understanding between the team.

My question is - despite all this about Klopp just pressing; how has he turned that around so quickly? That's so impressive. Suddenly we are hitting passes that before we were fluffing.

Let's hope that continues, because it was beautiful to watch.

i love those outbursts, one of the boxing corners did it after on sky sports too, with another immediate apology. yet when the crowd are singing 'the referees a wanker' repeatedly, no one says anything. its all daft anyway, its just language. 'sorry about that, a very passionate occasion' says the commentator. love it.

Even Moreno looked good as a defender last night, that's how good a performance it was (by that, I mean he had a good game even if you ignored his forward-play).

We were certainly helped by City picking the wrong team in that first half and their centre-backs not having a clue, and those things can't be ignored. But our passing was sharp and progressive which is a big difference in how we played under Rodgers for the last season or so, where a lot of our aesthetically-pleasing play was sideways rather than forwards.

You'd like to think that this game will give the confidence to beat Bordeaux on Thursday and then we have Swansea at home which will be a test. I imagine they'll come looking to keep fairly solid and not be too ambitious in attack, so there won't be the same space for the front-men to link up and play those cute little 5-yard passes.

Still, I don't think we've ever won away at Chelsea and City in the same season since City became good, have we? And in both games we've fully deserved it, too. Hurrah!

I think you are completely wrong here, getting a group of egos to work for the best of the team - and be happy to do so - isn't easy. Otherwise Chelsea wouldn't be such a mess and nobody would there wouldn't be value attributed to good people-management skills.

One of the big things Klopp has done is actually play people in positions they are more accustomed to, which has meant Ibe being a sub rather than a starter for one, Milner playing out wider rather than central midfield another. That and the work-rates of everybody are up - Lallana runs around like a maniac now, Milner was everywhere, ditto Phil and Firmino, it all adds up.

Impressed by the impact Klopp has had at Liverpool in such a short space of time. Apparently he already has more away wins against the "top four" than Rodgers managed. Firminho and Coutinho's link up play has shades of Reus and Gotze about it.

I think Rodgers' Liverpool when at their best against the top sides played a similar style of vertical counter attacking football, with fluid interchanging of positions, I think it's harsh that people are neglecting to remember the best of Liverpool's play under Rodgers which wasn't just confined to one season. In regards to performances against the top sides, in December 2013 they played Man City and Chelsea away and were simply unlucky to not win despite the better play and better chances, and had the linesman not flagged for an offside that wasn't on Sterling perhaps they beat Man City. The defeat against Man United aside earlier this year Rodgers' Liverpool always played well and mostly dominated the top sides, the difference now under Klopp seems to be simply more luck and perhaps more belief. The play against Arsenal earlier this season was similarly good but just yielded no goals.

I don't think people are forgetting that Rodgers did bring good things to the club (but also Joe Allen, ho ho ho) and playing some of his best games were against the top teams as you say, because they allowed space on the pitch. I mentioned it in a previous post when talking about Swansea, because those are the types of games where we need to be a bit smarter in our play - the Palace game was a good illustration of that because they pressed as we looked to do and completely nullified a lot of our play.

However, what I've taken from Klopp's arrival is that we look a lot more solid defensively, in that for the last year or so of Rodgers' reign we often looked like we would concede on every opposition attack (even if we went on to keep a clean sheet); the team just looked nervous and rushed in defence, whereas now things look just generally a lot more confident. Hell, Lovren actually looked really good and not a mistake waiting to happen, Moreno was more aware of his man and the space around him and even Skittle hasn't looked like scoring an own-goal in a while. I won't stretch to say Mignolet's improved at all, because he hasn't, but the defence are finally looking like a unit, rather than a collection of people thrown-together.

I think you're completely wrong. New manager + and increase fitness across the team = people are enjoying working harder and that new manager boost always works.

Now - getting them to ping balls to each other and make them stick? That's some proper coaching. To turn that around so quickly, from a team who were ponderous and slow with some sub par passing? He's switched that around so quickly.

Getting the ego pampering right isnt going to make them pass better. Good training will.

We passed the ball well under Rodgers, to suggest that's something that Klopp has 'fixed' is absolute rubbish. We didn't pass it very well against Crystal Palace, or Southampton or for large parts of our European games, did we?

Part of the difference is what I said - playing men in the correct position. Under Rodgers, with players out of position, they stopped to get on their proper foot, or would cut inside or stop and play the ball backward, which slowed down play. And of course the man-management helps with players' game. A happy team with put in that extra effort, that's true in any work environment ever.
