LOL, this is downright bizarre. Lauding a manager who nearly won something one season (whilst being terrible every other season) over a man who waltzed in and won the biggest prize in European Club football straight away. Add to that a cup in his 2nd, another Champions League Final in his 3rd and a seemingly all important 2nd place finish too. Bizarre. Totally, bizarre.

I don't know what you're getting at. I'm not knocking Benitez's achievements. I'm saying that the 2013/14 team played the most attractive, exciting and most enjoyable football to watch than any Liverpool team since the 80's and that's a fact.

What's going on here is you're making up stuff that nobody said then calling it bizarre. It's like you can't read. Hope that helps.

Totally agree.

As we do have a convoluted set-up when it comes to transfers, which out of Ancelotti and Klopp, the current frontrunners for the job, is going to be better equipped to work within such a system? I like the appeal of Klopp, and he did wonders with Dortmund once his systems clicked, but Ancelotti has the greater experience, which counts in his favour.

Either way think we're a club that is still 4-5 years off winning the title (at least), but even to achieve a significant title challenge we'd need several top 4 finishes in the coming seasons just to acquire the squad required for a league title. Think the current squad is capable of 5th-6th, maybe 4th if Chelsea's woes continue or one of Arsenal or Manchester United suddenly forget how to play football for a few months. Anything beyond that would take a hell of a blip not just from us, but at least two clubs traditionally above us in recent years.

In the short-term, would just like to see whoever comes in do so with a clear plan in place. If this is anything other than a transitional season we'll be fortunate, but a few clean sheets and cohesive performances would be welcome progress at the moment. What's everyone else expecting / hoping for?

I think Klopp is more perfect if he has the final say on transfers. If you don't give him that then I am not sure. I am not sure why you wouldn't though considering his reputation when it comes to transfers.

I don't think Ancelotti is the right fit for Liverpool. Wherever he's been he has had great squads and just told to get on with it. He didn't really choose the transfers at Milan, PSG, Chelsea or Madrid. His record in Europe is phenomenal. But his league record for somebody who has managed a lot of top clubs isn't that great.

Tactically he'd just play the diamond every game and rarely change it. He'd rarely change the team, which cost Madrid as a lot of their players suffered from burn out last season.

Klopp has a lot more to prove especially after last season. But don't expect a great start. It will take the players a few months to get used to Klopps method. You'd need to give him two seasons as he'd need a summer transfer window.

I still think it's madness by the board to keep Rodgers at the end of last season. Should have just sacked him after the Stoke loss. Rather than just giving him 8 games. Your squad is still short. You need a CM alongside Henderson. Also recall the winger you sent out on loan and this time play him as a winger not wingback.

My god. You'd rather see us play well and win nothing, than actually win something...the Champions League no less.

What is going on here? You can neg all you want. It's total bullshit behaviour. Bizarre!

Learn to read dipshit. He said it was the best football he seen us play, not the most successful.

The other thing to consider is that perhaps they wanted to, but didn't feel anyone who was better was available after Klopp and Ancelotti indicated they were taking time off. With Klopp revising that not too long ago that changed the situation.

Ancelotti was taking time off due to back problems.

Only reason Klopp was taking time out because there were no top jobs available. Rafa was only linked to Real Madrid. Blanc was safe at PSG.

Liverpool could have got him in the summer if they wanted. Like I said before, should have sacked him at the end of last season rather than giving him 8 games or just wait till xmas. Currently in the premier league, 2 wins in a row and Liverpool could be in the champions league spot. There's no real consistent team besides City and even they had a blip. I don't think Klopp coming in will change that. He'd need time to settle in and Liverpool do have some tough fixtures coming up.

It will be a similar job to what Pochetinno is doing at your club. He'd give the underperformers until the end of the season. If they don't improve they will be sold in the summer.

There are quite a few articles going around listing quotes from him.

Some are hilarious, some are weird and some are just brilliant.

What is clear is that we are getting a true character (No pun intended).

What I do like is that he comes across as a regular guy, a man of the people, someone who will quickly become 'one of us'.

The stuff he's said about Bayern is encouraging too. I can't wait to get back to the Rafa levels of disdain for United, and the Kenny levels of disdain for.. well...evryone. Hodgson kissed Fergie's ass way too much, and Rodgers seemed far too concerned with being liked by opposing managers. We need to create an' us and against the world' feeling again, a true siege mentality. The fans, the players, the manager all working together. If he can create that through his actions and personality, then it will be a huge step 'back' into the right direction.

If theres one truth that can be taken from the Roddgers era its that there will never be a manager that will unite the fanbase. If you look at some of the bile-ridden guff that was writen about him or listen to the various shouty man Liverpool podcasts the big takeaway is that theres a vocal rump of bullshitters out there who care more about being "right" than anything else.

"Oh I've watched countless hours of Armenian football and let me tell you"

"I don't care what the facts say"

"Anyone who disagrees is a delusional wool"

The sad part is that the words of these jackasses gets regurgitated as if its gospel when the truth of the matter is that if these lads knew even one fifteenth of what they claim to know then they'd be making a fortune working inside the game instead of mouthing off on twitter.

It's rare any club has a manager that gets near universal approval, particularly at clubs where expectations are high. That only tends to come from long term success, such as Ferguson at Utd. Even he had some fans wanting him gone after all the success he'd had over the years.

If it is Klopp I wonder there that leaves Benteke. Doesn't really seem like his kinda of player.

To be fair many said that about Rodgers when we signed Benteke!

I'm far less concerned with the forward positions, as I think Benteke, Ings and Sturridge are really good options. Not convinced at all by Orgi yet though. It's sorting out the keeper, defence and midfield that concerns me. I'm also concerned that a change of manager will have little impact unless things are changed behind the scenes too.

Quite a few articles from 2013 about Klopp going for Benteke whilst at Dortmund. True? Don't know. But was indeed heavily linked.

I think Klopp should be good for you. English clubs aren't very good at pressing or dealing with being pressed (partly why we're struggling at CL level recently), and that's his speciality. You have some good engines in midfield to be able to carry out his plan without dying too early. I think if the players can take to his approach quickly then your form will pick up massively.

I'm so excited about this. I bet on Klopp to be the next Liverpool manager immediately after our loss to West Ham at Anfield (bonus!). Gegenpressing will be a serious help against these poxy low-block counter teams that have been a constant thorn in our side since Suarez left. He's the outstanding choice for the job, IMO.

I don't really recall ever being a time where the club have tried to adopt a siege-mentality. Even Rafa was only saying United got alledeged favouritism, not that everybody hated us.

Really optimistic for Klopp, like Sng I probably would've preferred Ancelotti if at all possible (more proven, maybe more of a big player draw). Only slightly though! Assuming he takes over before the Spurs match, his first 3-4 games ain't exactly a stroll in the park! Very exciting times though. :)
