Their goal aside, I think we had decent stab at it. We were in charge for most of the first half, and held our own as they pushed on in the second. It's nice to see them actually caring about the game as well, even if they did show it by throwing a few tantrums - worlds apart from the United game.

Really? Though we won more corners, most of them were terrible and whilst we had a number of early chances, none of them were on target. Howard didn't have a save to make all game, whereas Mignolet had 4 or 5 (2 of them really good saves, too). We started brightly for about 15 minutes but lost control after that and Everton upped the tempo and caused far more problems. We managed to keep the shackles on Lukaku for an hour or so, but he still looked threatening and came into it more towards the end.

I'm not saying it was a lack of effort or that it was terrible defending (goal aside) - just that we didn't play very well and I don't agree with Ings' impression that it we created loads of chances or defended excellently (we did ok).

At least United are getting tonked at the moment.

First 15 minutes we were good. After that, we lost it, as per usual. They were on top of us the entire 2nd half. I'm happy with a draw but I really don't see any improvement. It's just the same old rubbish. Even our big two of Sturridge and Coutinho were anonymous today.

Barkley should have had 3 yellows - kicking ball away, Can fight, Lallana dive. Lucas two, though one for a foul on Barkley who should have been off. Poor refereeing overall.

As has been said repeatedly in this thread he should have gone after the hammering by Stoke. I hope they've got someone lined up to take over and at least whoever it is will have part of the international break to get accustomed to the squad.

Little bit shocked to be honest. Think mostly because we haven't been through many managers over the years, although that's changing in recent times.

Things clearly weren't right though, shame it didn't work out but the timing is weird. Good luck to him wherever he ends up next. He spoke like a management consultant but don't doubt he had love for the club, and for a brief period he made Liverpool poetry in motion.

Didn't expect that tbh, thought they'd give him till Xmas.

Kind feel sorry for the guy because he seemed like a decent bloke and he nearly won us the league but the last 15 months have beens pretty shite and for the money he's spent you can see why the decisions been made. I'm sure he'll bounce back, all the best Brendan.

The problem is, it's all well and good saying the board have been decisive/it's the right decision etc, but they are playing catch-up to the mess made in the summer.

They stuck with him (which was fair enough) and backed-him with a lot of cash, sanctioned the loan-out of Markovic etc. I mean let's be honest here, most would have taken a point at Stoke and expected us to lose at Arsenal and Man U anyway so, even with the West Ham defeat draw with Norwich we're only 2 points from where a good start would have put us, all the while playing poorly.
