I reckon we've got a Top 5 squad at the moment - not close to Man City and Chelsea, not too far from Arsenal and just about on par with Man Utd. With a good manager and a fully-fit squad, we should be able to get 4th, maybe 3rd if we're lucky.

The performances we've had under Rodgers over the past year suggest that he's given up on his principles. We're slow and don't look at all like an attacking threat now. With this, we also capitulate regularly at the back, letting in 2 or more goals in defeat. He's rigidly sticking to a formation and style, unwilling to change it to fit the players we have. Firmino is a 10, not a wide player. Ings is a 9, not a wide player.

The stats I put on here the other day are awful: Played: 16, Lost: 8, Drawn: 3, Won: 5, Scored: 14, Conceded: 26

But the worst thing to me isn't the stats. It's that we just aren't enjoyable to watch, at all. At least Rodgers' first season was interesting, because we looked more attacking and were fun to watch, even if we didn't win.

Top 4 for liverpool is not unrealistic. They're one of the richest, most popular clubs on the planet. I agree you need someone a bit special to push on but considering liverpool are the 7th in the richest club list why is that a big ask?

Actally they're 8th on Forbes' list, and 9th on the Deloitte money league. Either way there are 4 English clubs above them and a quite sizeable chunk of money between them and Arsenal.

i think thats a bit of an overstatement, and i think he'd command instant respect of the dressing room - and he'd stop playing people out of position. im not saying hes perfect but hes a hell of a better choice than rodgers. put it this way too, when rodgers goes, who do you think is going to come calling for him. a man utd, an everton, a spurs? or....a blackpool, a hull, a bolton. thats his level.

Who is out of position?

They've got a much better goalie

Defence - Clyne/Skrtel/Sakho/Moreno v Darmian/Smalling/Jones/Shaw, not really much in it

Emre Can/Henderson/Milner v Blind/Carrick/Schweinsteiger, maybe they are better but a bit old

Attack - Coutinho/Sturridge/Benteke v Rooney/Mata/Depay, honestly rather have Liverpool attack but im biased

They are much better managed so doesent matter

By better managed do you mean as a club or do you mean their manager is better?

As a club, five years ago Man U finished 22 points ahead of Liverpool and they have over the five seasons since spent around 140M more (net) than Liverpool and spent many millions more on wages and you think the teams are roughly equal in quality so obviously they are doing something a lot worse than us.

If you mean their manager, this is the guy who has somehow managed to spend around twice as much as Liverpool last summer and leave his team with 1 striker who has any experience of playing in the Premiership in the entire squad (assuming Wilson goes on loan). Their second choice striker is Fellaini!

The only reason why Liverpool have a hope of keeping up with Man U is because they have been so badly managed over the past few seasons.

Rodgers vs Van Gaal at the moment is an incredibly poor competition all round. It feels a bit like Van Gaal is working at getting a base to work from rather than Rodgers just flapping around, so I'd give Van Gaal the nod personally.

I'm not sure you can make any convincing argument to rate Rodgers over LVG. He has the pedigree, is strong enough to make decisions and stick with them and, despite how awful they played last season, still got them to 4th.

Both have been tactically all over the place of course and he have bought quite poorly, but that experience did tell and probably will this season too.

Liverpool team: Mignolet, Gomez, Toure, Sakho, Rossiter, Can, Ibe, Moreno, Lallana, Coutinho, Origi.

Substitutes: Bogdan, Randall, Cleary, Chirivella, Brannagan, Firmino, Ings

Given how isolated Origi looked in pre-season when played up front on his own, I don't have high hopes for him tonight.

Not much better than we were against United. Origi completely isolated up front, lots of wayward passes and some shaky defending when Bordeaux attack. As is usually the case Coutinho showing his class and is by far the best player on the pitch.

Sakho played well I thought with some really incisive forward passing, I really wish we would play him in the league.

A lot of youngsters played some of them pretty well but it was asking a lot of them in the end especially once Can moved back into defence.

It was a shame Ings couldnt score his chance to finish the game but a draw was definitely a fair result.

Yeah, we didn't really look like scoring until Lallana's goal. Doesn't matter the players in the team, we're slow and plodding in the build up, and very easy to defend against - it takes a bit of individual brilliance for us to score (like Benteke, Coutinho and Lallana's goals this season).

Gone are the days of 13/14 when we drove forward as a unit and looked like scoring with every attack.
