I think it's sensible enough. Assuming it's 4-3-3 then I'm almost happy! We played much better in both of the previous games after moving to a 4-3-3. I think picking Lucas will help prevent Benteke from being isolated because it allows Milner and Can to go box-to-box. We've been practicing a medium block and I feel much more confident that it will work if we're in that shape, compared to when we're playing 4-2-3-1. I still expect they'll overload our left repeatedly and Lovren will get the blame if they score from doing it.

Decent enough selection. I still think Lucas is well past his best, but we do need cover for that back four tonight and Can has more of a tendency to forget positioning and go on long busting runs, so don't think we can quite trust him to play that holding role. I'd see him being the attacking midfielder tonight.

Still I'd happily take a draw right now. I don't fancy our chances much tonight.

Looks like Rodgers is finally learning to me and he knows it's important to try amd get something out of tonight's game.

My only issue is that he's bringing in 3 players, which is a big change to a winning team. It's about right though that Firmino comes in for Lallana and nothing we can do about the Hendo injury. Looking forward to seeing what Can can do in midfield.

Lallana would be a forced change too. He's injured for a few weeks I think. He has been awful in the first two game though.

Don't think it's a traditional 4-3-3 tonight. Think it's 2 holding with another in the centre. With Firmino and Coutinho in behind Benteke.

That would be surprising. I assumed we'd go for Rodgers' standard 1-2 in midfield and don't really see why we wouldn't, given the personnel and the use of split CBs so far. So do you reckon it's going to be Milner playing slightly ahead of the other two?

Lallana out for up to 4 weeks apparently. Don't hold out much hope for tonight, I think Arsenal are a better side being honest and we're usually pretty hopeless at the Emirates. Usually. ;)

As someone said further up the page, making sure Benteke isn't isolated is the key thing. If he is, he won't be able to hold up play and the ball will just come straight back.

Heard it could be Can furthest forward of the three mids, as dubious as that sounds. We'll just have to see. Just rumours to be honest.

.....

Seems like Mario is finally off...deleted most of his Liverpool pics on his Instagram now. Just hope we don't get fleeced too badly on him. We took a chance. It failed. Milan should at least pay his wages in full.

No loan fee and Liverpool stuck paying half his wages which are £160k a week. Liverpool are the only club where he's been a complete disaster but like Lambert Rodgers never really have him the chbace. I hope he succeeds at Milan in his second spell, not least because there is an option for Milan to buy him at the end of the season.

My mistake I misread it, I assumed the 80k was half his wages. Nice bit of business for Milan thiugh, sell him for £18m and then get him back a year later for reduced wages.

I've seen him labelled our worst ever signing, those people are forgetting the £9m wasted on El Hadji Diouf who was signed instead of Anelka.
