I thought can was excellent when he came on. Composed and classy in midfield.

One worry seems to be the whole 'play one up top' again, without real support. It didn't work last year, and we didn't even have a shot on target in the first half.

A win is a win I guess.

Lots of teams, some better than us, will drop points away at Stoke this year. Right now I'm simply ecstatic about getting three points there. Stoke defended and pressed well, closing down space all over the pitch. An average performance gaining three points is how you win leagues. We can only get better performance wise...

If I'm perfectly honest, I don't think we deserved the win. The wondrous goal deserved a win for sure, but the performance, not so much. It really could have went either way and the draw was probably a fair result. But when you've got someone like Coutinho, with magic in his feet, that's the difference. So of course, I'm delighted.

That game was about much more than 3 points. It was the first game of the season at a ground we were thrashed 6-1 only a few months ago. It was about exorcising those demons and setting us on our way for this season. It's a huge jolt of positivity and will add to the confidence and spirit of the group. It was a day when the performance was far less important than the result (as always when you think about it).

First half was terrible. We had zero threat. Benteke was isolated, whilst Ibe and Lallana provided nothing. Even Coutinho was off his game. The introduction of Can in the second half really gave us more control in midfield, and later on Firmino did look like he could be a danger. I noticed we were playing a lot more long balls than usual. I guess this was because of Benteke's isolation. I just hope that doesn't become our primary tactic to suit him as it really isn't what we're about. He showed throughout the game (all be it, fleetingly) that he has much more than that, with runs in behind and powerful bursts through the Stoke defence. It's easy to always go long, but it isn't our way, with the players we have. It isn't a tactic we should ignore, but we certainly shouldn't be doing it all the time.

The defence looked much better. Lovren...did he actually have a good game? I think he did. Impressive. Skrtel I thought was excellent excluding a few short back passes (but we'll blame the long grass on that). Gomez made a few mistakes, passes and being out of position at times - but continues to look a great prospect. Clyne looks the player we expect him to be.

Was impressed with Milner's workrate, and Henderson's though neither were spectacular in other areas. Firmino impressed me when he came on, but then he would, since I'm biased and love him already, regardless.

Bring on Monday night!

I didn't find much to get excited about with Firmino, he looks comfortable on the ball as you'd expect but he was caught a couple of times because he isn't used to the pace of the game. In fairness to him coming on as sub makes it difficult even before you take into account that was his first appearance in the league.

He should be an excellent player when he acclimatises.

Crap performance, great result. On an opening weekend where none of the "top 6" performed well, 3 points off the back of it will do nicely. And as Stoke - nice.

I really really hope Rodgers starts with Can from now on and goes with the 4-1-2-3 that we seemed to end with game with. His introduction instantly allowed Milner and Henderson more freedom to do what they can do in the middle and we played a helluva lot better.

Thought he looked quite lively when he came on and made a bit of space for others. Having him and Phil as creative outlets should be a marked improvement on last season.

Can looks like he'll be some player, just hope he gets an extended run of starts and we reap the benefits.

Firmino got a hat-trick today in a 5-1 win over TNS. Ings and Lazar the other.

Really hope we don't see Sakho, Moreno and Lucas leave before the window. Would be crazy to sell any of the first two. And whilst Lucas has never been the same since the injury, I think he's a good dependable guy who can come in and do a good job when needed. Whether he wants to be that bit part player is something else though.
