Weirdly, Italian TV just said he was in Brescia awaiting a possible move to Fiorentina with Mario Gomez coming the other way.

I assume they just made that all up? It was Rai so...

In other news I'm definitely pro Benteke. I don't get people saying he won't fit. No reason why he can't.

Because people sometimes believe what they read and then repeat it like its gospel

There is a good post about Christian Benteke from a Villa fan on the Liverpool subreddit. (link)

He's a wonderful striker, best I've seen down Villa Park since Dwight Yorke nearly twenty years ago. He's not blessed with blistering pace but he can play football, it seems a lot of people think he is just a brute who bullies central defenders. I don't see enough of Liverpool to pass comment but if you want a guy to get on the end of crosses then he's arguably the best in the Premier League right now. I'm of the understanding Liverpool haven't done that under Rodgers but Benteke is excellent and holding the ball up and bringing others into the game too. I guess he might be surprised to be at a team where the midfield actually fucking join the attack (cheers Paul Lambert. <_<) and Sturridge might be getting on the end of a lot more knockdowns than he previously has been. I love Benteke. I wish he had been at the club between 2007-2010 instead of when we actually had him. Maybe we'd have seen some Champions League football. He can certainly come up with 30 goals in the right team.

I actually thought he was a lot like Yorke in his technique but he was used so negatively under Lambert. Yorke went to United and didn't do too badly in a more attacking team, did he?

We don't focus on crosses, our wide play either relies on one-twos or overlaps but last season our most productive creator was Coutinho. We've added Firmino and Lallana hopefully will get a full pre-season this year so they ought to take some of the weight from his shoulders. Henderson's passing has improved a lot so hopefully the service to Benteke, Origi and Sturridge when he's fit will see us score a lot more.

Do you want to sign Borini and Lambert?

End of the first half against Brisbane Roar. We've put out a very strong team in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Origi up front on his own. He's looked a little isolated at times, and he's struggled to make it stick. Would like to see him play in a 2 with Ings to help him out a bit.

Gomez has looked great, even though he's playing left back. Really calm and composed - doesn't look like it's only his 2nd game for us. Lallana has look good too.

Milner delivered 2 great corners - with Skrtel, Sakho and Benteke, I can see us scoring quite a few from set pieces this year.

I thought ibe looked good. Took on quite a few players and gets in about it. I also agree about origi. He looks like he would expect to play with someone like lambert or benteke holding him up the ball for him to run onto. He doesn't look the type to act as a target man.

I also think we have one of the most likable teams in the league. Now Sterling's gone there's no one I'd really call an arsehole in our team. Maybe it's just me but I find it very hard to like professional footballers with their riches and elitist attitudes but most of our players seem okay. Milner seems like a nice bloke too. This might seem like a silly thing to say but the fact they all seem alright, with no real prima donnas, should help to create a nice atmosphere and team spirit which will hopefully help to overcome any shortcomings when comparing us to the richer sides who perhaps do have those more 'troublesome' personalities in their squads.

It's true you don't have an Ashley Cole or a Samir Nasri, but you still have a bunch of people playing for Liverpool. Therefore they're going to be hated by rival fans no matter what. I used to quite like Milner. Now he's likely to have the C word yelled at him (especially if he scores against us ;) )

I was going to say Balotelli, but I think away from the field he's a positive influence. He seems to be incredibly popular with the other players, and he shows a lot of positivity for the club. I'd still like him to be a big player for us, but with Benteke looking like a done deal I can't see it happening.

Deal agreed with Villa now according to the Guardian.

Not sure how I feel about it. His strike rate is impressive in that Villa team but I'm still not sure he's quite the right player, and I can't help but think of the last time we sold a player for £50m and spent £35m of it on his replacement...

On the other hand, you have to take your hat off at the way we've done our business in this window. All the targets we wanted sorted out a month before the end. A few more sales now and we'll have achieved exactly what we wanted. That's very impressive.

I think you underestimate how much other teams hate us and our fans.

True.

Talking about likeable players, would like to mention Jordon Ibe...who doesn't even have an agent, and lets his Mum and Dad do everything. Refreshing:

"I just don’t see the need for an agent, really,” Ibe says. “My parents are doing the same job, and my family will always be number one to me.

“They’re the best people for me. They give me any advice I need, and then obviously I have the final decision. I don’t see what an agent can do for me that my parents couldn’t.”

Yeah, Paul Scholes was fine apart from getting away with some of the worst tackles seen in football...and having everybody come out with the hilarious..."oh it's Paul Scholes, will he ever learn..ho ho ho...".

Everybody loves a Paul Scholes 'tackle'...

I was talking with my brother and mentioned being happy with the players we have and how there's no one I really dislike there who i'd want rid of. Lovren possibly but I'm willing to give him a chance.

I can't help but like Balotelli and still hope he can turn things around with us - though he's most likely gone.

Borini isn't needed but I like him for refusing to leave, any player that wants to play for us deserves some respect. And I like his celebration when he scores.

Lambert, another seemingly unwanted/needed player, seems like a decent guy and is a fan of the club. With Stevie gone the role of senior scouse player can fall to him to mentor the young 'uns.

Joe Allen I used to see as a waste of space but last season I began to appreciate his determination and grit. At times he was like a little jack russell nipping at the feet of opponents.

And Enrique always comes across as a fun guy to have around.

I'd be disappointed with any of them leaving (maybe not so much Lovren), but it's not viable too keep everyone.

Exactly the same criticism can be levelled at Gerrard.
