I'm not going to drag up the whole Suarez saga again as that's never going to end well.

Sterling has already done an unauthorised interview to force an exit. Right at the most vital point in the season when we were flying. I am in no doubt that he has caused a lot of issues behind the scenes due to that.

Sterling and his agent has been dragging this club through the mud publicly for the past few months. At least Suarez left things to the summer and always gave 100% it's why the fans liked him.

It gets even better. Apparently Sterling is now saying he wants to leave because he doesn't want to play for Rodgers - this is the same Sterling who said he'd leave if Rodgers was sacked last December:

"Raheem wants to know more about Rodgers's future; he is not saying that he would not play for Liverpool without him - but it is a concern he has"

And he missed training today as he was 'ill'.

Refusing to train. Claims he is sick. Hope he gets 'better' soon with a big move on the cards.

And whether Suarez racially abused anyone is debatable. I for one don't label people racists solely on the allegations of another person, or the corrupt and biased FA's 'balance probability' panel. Just because people don't like Suarez, or were jealous of his ability...they are quick to label him. Would you want to be labelled as a racist without any proof?

Suarez didn't "down tools", this is true. But then conversely, Sterling hasn't racially abused anyone, given a paper interview saying Liverpool were being unfair by not letting him join Arsenal, or bitten people in an effort to make his position untenable.

That bloke dragged your club's name through the mud. Piling in on Sterling while still holding a candle for Suarez seems incredibly hypocritical to me.

Suarez also nearly dragged us to the league title.

Sterling has done nothing.

I heard he was not handing in a transfer request so he can get his loyalty bonus?

What a guy.

Take the £3m/wages hit. Because what might we do with £40m? Last season we pissed that against the wind. Mmm salty money taste, right in the mouth.

Better to teach them rather than let them do what they want. A marker for sure.

So all that shitty stuff he did is ok because he scored a lot of goals? Fuck that.

"Liverpool owe it to me". This is after a genuine club legend in Dalglish made himself look a complete twat on behalf of Suarez.

Sterling is 20 and obviously subject to vagaries in form and inconsistency in end product, like every player his age. It's impossible to say with any certainty that his drop in form last season was because he "wasn't giving his all". In fact, it's totally illogical to state that, because surely he would be trying to impress potential suitors.

I'm not saying his behaviour is great but a) loads of players do similar without this unprecedented level of vitriol, and b) it's ludicrous to hate on him for this while simultaneously absolving Suarez of his sins. Fabregas and Van Persie pulled similar stunts. Southampton have seen it numerous times (normally with players who were trying to force a way out to you guys). It happens all over the place if you're not at the very top of the food chain, and normally no one really bats an eyelid, but for some reason Sterling is getting unbelievable pelters left, right and centre. I actually don't think it's at all wrong for fans to have a go at him for being a dick about it, but there seems to be a big lack of consistency here.

sure you're not just trying to crowbar in 'Suarez wanted to join Arsenal' in something about Raheem Sterling but yeah, if Sterling stayed then played like Suarez and got the club 65m he'd leave on good terms like Suarez, no lack of consistency, Suarez would still be getting called a cunt now if he was at Arsenal

We're going to sign Lacazette, Kovacic and Benteke apparently. All tomorrow. Confirmed. And they're all going to turn out fine and we are going to win the league. Fucking Rodgers is the best manager in the world I love it.

Sterling is going to die from a muscle wasting disease on our reserves bench, and we will all celebrate.

He didn't say it was popular, he said it made sense. You don't.

Okay then, It makes 'sense' to him, you and others...because you agree with it. Not because it is correct. Self awareness guys, come on, don't let your hatred for our football club blind you...why are you all in here anyway?

The Sterling situation has been terribly managed on his part. The reason quoted in tonight's articles for him not wanting to play under Rodgers is because he didn't take him seriously when he asked to move on.

No shit Sherlock. How else does a manager take a request from a young up and coming talent with plenty of contract left.

City have gone from preparing a higher bid to now sticking to their 40mil offer. This is already dragging and it's only the beginning of July.

Does anyone remember that documentary/docusoap thing on Liverpool when Rodgers first took over? Sterling's attitude now reminds of how he was in that series, a petulant little twat.

The infamous...'steady' moment.

Perhaps the start of it all?

The list of reasons to leave are constantly increasing from the Sterling camp though:

- Wants more money.

- Wants to play as a forward (when he was being played wing back).

- Wants to live in London (but I guess Manchester is okay now).

- Has been bullied by the club.

- Wants to win trophies.

- Hates Rodgers.

He really has gone about this in the worst way possible. Glad to see Berahino has more about him than Sterling though: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3154081/Saido-Berahino-splits-Raheem-Sterling-s-controversial-agent-Aidy-Ward-West-Brom-star-becoms-disillusioned.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

BUT...better news...Gary Mac back at the club! Let's hope so. He's a great guy, a good Red and the scorer of one of the best derby goals EVER!!! What a moment.

This article provides an interesting counterpoint to everything that's come out today:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpools-raheem-sterling-wants-transfer-6029639

I can completely see that the club is waging a PR battle against Sterling/his agent - and why would they not. Obviously he's not gone about things in the right way at all, but the club won't come out of this completely blameless.

Rodgers seems very manipulative. Carroll spoke about how he was continually told he'd get the chance to prove himself...then immediately loaned to West Ham. The likes of Reina and Agger haven't been complimentary either. Basically, players need to stay on Rodgers' good side.

I don't know why Reina is always wheeled out as an example, the man wrote his farewell letter after going on loan and had spent the season prior telling anyone who would listen he was going to Barcelona. I'm also unsurprised Carroll and Agger weren't happy with leaving but I reckon Rodgers was justified on both.

Any manager with ambition is going to make people unhappy during his time at a club, it's the nature of the role. Check out Ferguson's list of enemies.

I agree the club have definitely leaked plenty to papers with regards Sterling but that doesn't excuse his behavior.

Lovren and lallana used similar tactics last season, essentially withdrawing service and making it clear via the press that they wanted to go.

It's the way it goes. Just need a man city fan to come and post the same sort of things that LFC fans were about then, about how Southampton were not treating them right and it's all fair play and they should let them go.

The circle of life, innit.
