So basically this summer requires the same recruitment as last with the addition of replacing Gerrard and Johnson at the very least.

May as well have cancelled the entire season and taken a sabbatical.

Manquillo will be sent home early because Rodgers doesn't rate him. So two right backs, a left back and striker are the bare minimum the club needs before any outgoings occur.

Lucas again is being touted about, Joe Allen isn't good enough, Sterling is leaving and I imagine a central defender might leave out of Sakho or Lovren.

I think what we've seen in the past few transfer windows is that Rodgers isn't a draw to the top players.

We really could do with someone like Klopp at the helm. Or at least get a Director of Football in who can really sell the club - Monchi at Sevilla sounds like he'd work wonders.

Money draws players not managers. Fact is Liverpool can't compete with the top four when it comes to that and that's why they gotta be clever in how they operate in the transfer market.

Players go to teams like Sevilla and Porto on the promise of performing well and getting a big transfer from it.

If Man City or Arsenal are offering crazy money for Sterling then you should accept. The only problem is whether you trust Rodgers to spend that money wisely because his transfer record hasn't really been great. Sturridge and Coutinho are the only two that I can think of that have been good and maybe Sakho too.

He's bought players with potential (Markovic, Moreno, Can) but largely he's bought poorly. Part of that is the market we compete in; as everybody knows, we can't go for the same players as the top clubs - not just because of transfer fees or wages, but lack of CL football and location (London is a bigger draw than Liverpool for many people). Joining a successful club negates some of those things to a degree, but clearly at the moment that's not on the table for us either

It's going to be a difficult summer, FSG either need to publicly back Rodgers (to shut that talk down) or sack him quickly (and I do half-expect to see he's gone every time I log onto the BBC website). Then we need to get down to the business of identifying the right players quickly so they can get a pre-season with us.

I'll be fucking raging if we get rid of Lucas. Especially if we keep Allen over him.

Get rid of Borini, Lambert, Lovren, Allen, Johnson, Enrique, Manquillo and Balotelli (if anyone would take him). And Sterling if we get the big money offer.

Need a new right back another left back, a new CB, and 2 or 3 strikers.

Seeing as it is 25 May 2015 and just to cheer me up (and prolong the notion of us living in the past), I found the old CL final thread.

Great read, goosebumps just reading it.

Speaking of Roger's signings

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/may/25/divock-origi-liverpool-lille-ligue-1-worst-team-of-season

Liverpool’s Divock Origi, the Belgium striker on loan at Lille, has had the dubious honour of being named in L’Equipe’s Ligue 1 worst team of the season.

Liverpool paid £10m for Origi last summer after a breakthrough season in Ligue 1 and a series of impressive performances at the World Cup but allowed him to stay at Lille in order to further his development.

Origi has scored only eight goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances, which included a 20-game goal drought between October and March.

If those were PL goals he'd be our second top scorer this season, and only one behind the top spot. Though in a poorer league.

He's only 20 so still developing and not going to be playing as our main striker (I hope) but to support them.

I still want to see Rodgers given another year, I think he deserves it. Don't know what has happened since the United game but so many players seemed to have downed tools, maybe shit has gone on behind the scenes, or the Sterling situation has destabilised the squad. I don't think that it is the players losing faith in Rodgers as the likes of Coutinho, Ibe and Henderson have all pledged their futures to the club recently which is evidence that they are happy with things. But something is not right. Rodgers needs to fire a fuckin' huge rocket up some of their players arses.

Well I don't want to see another summer of transition I want to see players coming in which fit the way Rodgers wants the team to play and are experienced to jump into the team. Balo, Lambert, Johnson, Lovren, Borini, and if we get a stupid amount then Sterling too out the door. We need experience in midfield without Gerrard so I'd try and get Milner in as he's on a free. Not a fashionable name but he's survived at a title winning club under multiple different managers which is testament enough to his quality. Ings on a free, I'd deffo have him in as a squad player. Then its the important parts; experienced striker, centre back and right back. Can't afford to get these ones wrong again.

I'd be happy if we got Milner, always liked him. Ings for free as a backup striker would be fine too. Would love to get a big name striker too but don't know who would be available and attainable.

United have declined Falcao's services so... Err.. fgCcUs0.jpg

Ings won't be free, his fee will be decided by tribunal.

And Danny, I think the problem is that Rodgers doesn't really know what way he wants the team to play. Milner would be a good - albeit somewhat safe - utility player but that still leaves a number of spaces to fill. Rodgers needs to decide upon whether to find a formation to fit the players, or the players to fit a formation. No more Can at right back, or Allen anywhere. Much work to be done.

He did last season. This season he's had to contend with injuries and the failure of some important signings (Balo and Lovren) so had to try and find an alternative. Unfortunately he struggled to find one that consistently works. This transfer window I just hope that they bring in the players that suit the system that Rodgers wants.

But a good manager should be able to work with what he's given - Borini, Balotelli and Lambert scored 30+ goals between them last season, they're not awful players.

We lost Suarez, but our squad didn't just become dramatically worse over the summer. We have good players, they're just not being utilised correctly. Emre Can at right back for example.

He did last season.

I disagree. He started that season playing 4-2-3-1. Had changed to a 3-5-2 once Suarez became available, only to drop it once Arsenal revealed how unbalanced it was. He then swapped to the only other logical formation that he could use whilst keeping both of Suarez and Sturridge on the pitch (something I predicted on here months before). And then he switched between that and a 4-3-3 for the rest of the season. I think he made a lot of big calls and got them right during that time, but he was still making quite glaring mistakes in terms of selection, and he pretty much completely failed to address defensive problems. The fact that those same problems haven't been dealt with in 3 seasons doesn't fill me with confidence that they ever will be under his management. I think he just doesn't value space in a defensive sense. Buying more players isn't going to change that.

I always thought it was a little bizarre he didn't bring in a specialist defensive coach. Is this normal? He seems to want to control all aspects and when it comes to defense he blatantly doesn't know how to!
