I suppose it'll at least be funny if Rodgers comes out post-match and talks about character and thinking we were unlucky. Right?

i guarantee you'll have a great second half and have shown lots of character, but that 1st half display isnt acceptable for liverpool football club, and you were unlucky.

anyone got benitez's number

Lol, if there are people who aren't confident you are the man to take the team forward being beaten 5-0 is the perfect way to answer their questions. If it gets worse I could see him sacked on the back of this game.

Only tuned into the Hull match 5 or so minutes from the end so didn't discover our score until a little while later. Couldn't help but laugh; no other reaction left at this point. What a fucking awful season. Could we have conjured up a more dispiriting send-off for Gerrard if we'd actively tried?

I don't get why he's persisting with Can on the right - it's not worked for the past month, so why keep trying it?

Rodgers does that. Keeps doing things that don't won't.

What the hell happened to you guys, man? Your shit used to be beautiful. When I was a kid, you were god king superbastards of all you surveyed, how the fuck did it get so bad you're 5-0 down to fucking Stoke at half time and closing in on 25 years without a league title?

I've always admired and respected Liverpool, I honestly don't like seeing this shit. Man U? Newcastle? Sure, I can laugh at those jerks all day but not you guys. This is just painful.

Yeah, it's shocking really.

I read dogsout's long post the other day and wrote a long reply out on my phone but lost it due to a dodgy connection. One of the points I made (which referenced what I wrote after the Palace game last week) was about Gerrard, and how he has taken a disproportionate amount of flack this season for the failings of the whole team. As I said last week, if he was given a defined role - and not expected to run all over the pitch every game - he could still have had a role play for a season or two, but there you go. His legs can't cope with an all-out action man role anymore but, as dogsout pointed out, stick him as the number 10 and he could have continued. Ah well.

Probably not, but this farewell tour has been more about Gerrard than Liverpool FC has it not? Maybe it's a reminder that nobody should be bigger than the club?

That shouldn't have affected the football side of things, players should be able to put aside what's in the media and focus on training/playing. If anything, it should've given them a lift to give him a good send-off.

As it is, we've just capitulated since the Utd game and completely took the foot off the gas.

While that might be the principle in general, it's not like we had anything else to play for in the last couple of games.

Though I suppose you could argue that attempting to play our way out of a Europa League place is a perfectly laudable goal.

FSG sacked Dalglish after Liverpool finished 8th, had won the League Cup the season before and lost the FA Cup to Chelsea that season. I'm not sure how much goodwill last season's second place finish still has for Rodgers but if FSG see that as a fluke rather than a trend the hammering from Stoke today may push them towards replacing him sooner rather than later.

I said a while back that I thought the only thing to stop Rodgers being at the helm next season would be if we ended-up without any European football, but the performances lately are a massive concern too.

I think a big part of the reason for Dalglish going was to do with just how long he'd been out of the game and it showed a lot in his tactics and approach in general.

Plus Kenny didn't really handle the whole Suarez racism row very well either. FSG were also looking for a long term thing too I think. With Klopp, a man who did wonders at Dormand on a small budget (something FSG would love) looking for a job, Rodgers isnt doing help self any favours.

Yeah he's gone.

He has shown a remarkable blind-spot with Can in the defence in particular, in the same way Ferguson had with midfielders at United, or Wenger seeing any red cards his players get.

We are so slow at getting the ball forward now. Such a contrast with last season's high pressing and quick attacks from midfield.

It's something that's bothered me so much. We play around with it way too much in our own half, passing it back and forth allowing our opposition to set themselves into position, making it harder for us to break through their defence.

If it was up to me I'd still keep him but that's the final nail in the coffin.

Garry Monk, here's your chance.

Sarcasm?

Think of who else we've taken from Swansea (and their performances) and there's your answer.

Edit: I didn't realise SMD was serious!

I can only presume it's because FSG like the idea of having a young up-and-coming manager?
