United are going to get fourth despite playing shit. It was criminal that too many players threw the towel after the United loss. We should be pole position for fourth. We have a sniff again at least and if those players don't give everything they've got these last few games then they don't deserve to wear the shirt.

So bloody frustrating. United are lucky that we were so crap in those 2 games.

Still 4 points behind United though Danny so we'd have to rely on them losing 2 more games and us winning 2. Not gonna happen.

theyre not playing shit, they just are shit, it's us that are playing shit and we've let them limp over the line, although if you look at our fixtures compared to theirs they should really be well ahead, plus we've had no striker so can't score a goal all season

That banner today, how pathetic was that??

I thought we looked a lot better today with Lambert up front and two creative players in Lallana and Coutinho behind.

Sterling is still really struggling for form though.

Had we taken our chances it would have a been a nice stroll today but as usual we had to make it difficult.

The Man U result has made the previous two results really frustrating, but really our position with respect to them was most affected by losing to them twice rather than all the other bad results of which we both have many.

Has anything been said about why Enrique no longer plays? The most recent few games we've reverted to a back for with Can RB and Johnson at LB. Surely couldn't be worse giving Jose a game before we likely get rid in the summer. Is he dead?

Enrique's pretty much been Mr Glass this season. He played for the U21s in April to get some fitness after injury, but unlikely he'll get more than a few subs appearances before the summer (and if he is off, then probably not even that so he doesn't get more knack and scupper any potential fee).

Depay to United then.

Who else are we going to miss out on? The transfer policy appears to get more shambolic.

I think Van Gaal was always going to be favourite for that signing.

38 goals in 88 appearances, he is only 21 I think we want someone a bit more older & proven.

I'd be happy with Benteke 41 in 86 games but I fear he will cost a bit.

What will benteke bring that the club require? He is nothing like the kind of striker the club requires.

He has the pace, finishing & hopefully the fitness that we currently don't have with our four (Sturridge, Balotelli, Borini, Lambert).

But I feel he will cost quite a bit & we may end up going for a cheaper option.

We've been linked with Lacazette again & of course Danny Ings.

no way we were going to get him anyway, probably champions league & Dutch manager no brainer

The Dutch League is a strange one though, Luis Suarez & Jozy Altidore were peers, can't even remember the name of that one who played for Middlesbrough

I think we should go for Lukaku.....

Both Lukaku and Benteke are strikers who are good at what they do, but they don't fit the criteria of a striker who will defend from the front like Suarez did. Of course there could be a change of system but as we all know from this season the manager can't work out what kind of system he wants to play even when he does have a player in Balotelli who has similar qualities to both the Belgian strikers.

I'm not sure how Origi plays but I would expect a striker who will work tirelessly is at the forefront of Rodgers' mind.

With Sturridge out now again..for up to 6 months. I don't think I would even consider him as a squad player anymore. As much as I love him, he just can't be trusted to stay fit. We should act like we don't have Daniel Sturridge and buy in accordance with that.

We're getting Ings and Origi...both of which barely excite. We just need to head off to South America, buy the most work frenzied relentless young striker we can find, pay the big money and take the chance. We could have got Aguero when he was 18 according to Rafa, but couldn't risk the sum on a youngster. We need a Suarez clone, that's what we need. Even someone with half the ability of Suarez will do. The formation, style of football and work ethic suits the South American striker mentality perfectly in my opinion, that's why we should head there above anywhere else.

Let's not forget Mateja Kezman...105 goals in 122 appearances for PSV...4 in 25 for Chelsea. That's not to say there aren't gems to be had...Van Pervert, Suarez etc, but yes...caution needed when buying from the Dutch league.

We're not going to find another Suarez. I don't think Balotelli is similar at all, to Benteke or Lukaku. I mean, he does have the pace and power but he doesn't use it.

I think we need a player who can play across the front 3; centre left or right. Like Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge. Their off the ball movement and ability to be anywhere at any one time was a large part of our success last season.

Today is one of those games that you feel its barely worth watching. Most likely a hammering or a Gerrard red, and if its a victory so what? It already feels hollow.

It's hardly an insightful observation (given that we've all seen it since day 1), but Can isn't a defender and Chelsea are really exploiting that better than any other team I've seen this season.
