Can't really complain about the overall result over the course of the 2 games, we just didn't create enough and were 2nd best tonight.

Obviously with hindsight it would have been better to go out in the 90 minutes than after penalties, but there you go. As for Lovren, well at least stepped-up to take a penalty, but it's criminal for any player to miss the target - at least make the keeper work for it.

Tactically, it was always going to be a risk going into this match with only Allen as any kind of holding player and so it played out. Ah well, let's hope there isn't a hangover against City.

I think it was one or the other, the league or europa cup as I don't think we could of handled the games anyway, I'd rather of won this though but now have to try and get 4th...3rd?

Re: penalties the commentator said Kolo Toure took one in the African cup of nations final so I dunno why he wasn't taking one, Dejan Lovren taking the 5th penalty? Good one

If Lovren and Allen are in the team, we haven't got a hope. Both just aren't good enough. I'm confused why we started with two upfront tonight, when we never do. I was even more confused why Rodgers persisted with it for so long when it wasn't working. We limped out tonight, it was pitiful and we just didn't look like winning from the very first minute. Bit depressing really.

I think that's a bit strong. First half Liverpool created the best openings, playing on the counter worked well enough too. Second half was completely different because besiktas dominated from the start to the finish.

A number of things went wrong tonight but I don't think the defence is where the blame lies wholly. The finish was superb and the team were getting overrun all over the pitch. Lovren, Toure and Skrtel did ok overall.

Rodgers has actually been experimenting with two up front quite a lot recently. With both Phil and Markovic unavailable, and Balotelli coming into something approaching decent form, I think it was the right call. He did see the problem and addressing it by changing to a 2-1 up top but by then Besiktas had all of the momentum. The midfield is where the change was needed but we just didn't have enough fit CMs.

Watched the first half while in work and we appeared to be in total control and creating plenty of chances. Get home towards the end of the second half and it was like a completely different Liverpool playing. Sloppy, uninspired and looking knackered. No idea why Lovren took the 5th penalty, he was last on my list of people I wanted to take that. You could just tell he was going to sky it. Hopeless. Not sure on Mignolet's technique for penalties, seems to get the direction correct but instead of jumping he just kind of collapses in the direction while stretching his arms. Needs to be springier.

We've battered them in this half, but still look edgy at the back. And Sturridge should have scored there.

As for Phil, the difference between his shooting in and out of the box is vast. Never let him shoot inside the area in future :P
