Good result, poor, poor game from both teams. We gave away far too many free kicks in dangerous areas, luckily Southampton were ineffective up front as we were for most of the game.

Definitely one of those results that was ground-out.

I thought the second half was completely different. The Moreno sub shut out Clyne, who was Southamptons major outlet in the first half.

Both clubs negated each other, which was a massive improvement compared to the first half where Southampton dominated all of it.

Just looking at the table on Sky Sports and our GD isn't very good at all, hope that doesn't go against us.

Given our early season form, that GD isn't surprising and we can't afford to worry too much about that yet. We will need to be lucky again to get anything from City with that defense. Hopefully we will raise our game and keep the pressure on for top 4, still a few points off but the team has already exceeded my expectations for this hectic schedule. I'd be more optimistic when we make it through this period get some more of the injured back.

Rodgers must be thankful to get away with the win while not have the team 100% in either selection or performance. Southampton can feel gutted but they were a bit toothless.

Great result. Not a great performance overall mind. Lovren makes me nervous. Why was he playing? Is Sakho injured? Also I thought he was (allegedly) better suited to being on the left? I missed the pre-match stuff so was a bit confused to see him on the right and Can on the left.

Lovely goal by Couts.

Ref had a bit of a shocker.

The squad is getting abut thin now that Henderson and Cout are both injured and Markovic banned from the Europa games. Not particularly confident with Joe Allen representing the whole of our central midfield. I guess Can will stipe up, but then we will have a pretty unfamiliar and pretty slow defense of Skrtel/Louvren/Toure. Would be great if we can make it through with such a depleted team, but we need players to recover quickly.

Sturridge has always been like that, but toned it down a lot last season. Since he's been back from injury though he seems to have reverted to those days, he seems to want to take everybody on.

Scrappy - and not particularly entertaining - game. Too many fouls and misplaced passes (Can has been pretty poor), but at least we have shown some attacking intent. Would be such a cushion to get that away goal.

We've just been too slow in everything we do - too slow to pass, too slow to press, too slow to get men forward. It means that for any break the player with the ball has to stop and pass sideways/backwards or just give the ball away. As an attacking force we've been non-existent since half-time.
