Dowd was shocking last night - missed big decisions and unnecessarily turned the match into a yellow card fest.

Massive 3 points though. It was certainly an interesting match, the two main playmakers for both sides were relatively subdued (Coutinho & Eriksen).

Those complaining about Michael Owen got lucky. My stream had Phil Neville co-commentating.

Was Mignolet complaining about something else because how did he know Kane was offside from his angle?

Think even from his angle he could tell.

EDIT:

Probably looked even further offside than he is from Mignolet's angle.

Also, we're a big draw audience-wise, so putting us down the pecking order retains viewers. More important on ad-fuelled shows, but MOTD still wants to be able to say X, Y or Z million people watch every show.

By the way, did any of you lot notice you've got shiny new electronic signs distracting you from the action? Anfield is a really tricky place to work, man. In Champs League games the corners are filled in and the Kop End raises up to match the heights of the other two lines.

He was offside, there was no contact from Mig, and Kane dived. Other than that, definitely a penalty...

We definitely had the bulk of Dowd's awful decisions: offside goal against us (from a highly questionable free kick that at the very least was never a yellow for Gerrard), various other ridiculous bookings (though maaaybe Sakho's was worth a yellow), no penalty if it weren't for the linesman standing firm, etc.

Mig absolutely did contact Kane, he swiped him from the side after the ball had gone past. It was idiotic and we were lucky to get away with it. I think the ref ignored it as the ball had more or less gone out by the time it happened.

We were lucky it wasn't given but we were unlucky that the linesman didn't have good enough eyes to see Kane was off in the first place, and more times after that.

If you take the Skrtel mistake out of it, that was a comfortable, accomplished away win on a bit of a bogey ground of late. Absolutely dominant in possession and created a good few chances without much trouble at the back. Should have had a penalty too.

Mig was very good, again - several excellent punches, one good one-on-one save, etc. No idea if he can be a long term solution but he's certainly stepped it up recently.

The attack on the Basel player, the razor sharp finger nail that nearly cut off the player's nose.

He was stupid for flinging his hand out though. It was 3 games for a straight red and the 4th was due to his recent sending off whilst playing for Benfica against Juventus in the Europa league last season.
